Abstract The increasing use of addictive substances, especially marijuana, among university students has increased the burden of disease and social issues. However, the specific data about the prevalence and factors relating to marijuana use among university students is still limited. This study aims to provide the initial research literature about factors affecting the awareness and behavior of marijuana use among university students in Hanoi. The study employed two primary methods: a survey questionnaire and an in-depth interview with a sample of 324 diverse university students. According to research findings, students are generally uncertain about the effects of marijuana and take a neutral stance on its social acceptability. The overall prevalence of marijuana use among university students in Hanoi is 7.4%, of which the rate of use in males is 9.4% and in females is 4.1%. Marijuana use is also influenced by peers' behavior, and parents' false perception of their children's drug prevention capability and marijuana's accessibility may also play a factor

Background: An opisthorchiid liver fluke was recently reported from ducks (Anas platyrhynchos) in Binh Dinh Province of Central Vietnam, and referred to as "Opisthorchis viverrini-like". This species uses common cyprinoid fishes as second intermediate hosts as does Opisthorchis viverrini, with which it is sympatric in this province. In this study, we refer to the liver fluke from ducks as "Opisthorchis sp. BD2013", and provide new sequence data from the mitochondrial (mt) genome and the nuclear ribosomal transcription unit. A phylogenetic analysis was conducted to clarify the basal taxonomic position of this species from ducks within the genus Opisthorchis (Digenea: Opisthorchiidae). Methods: Adults and eggs of liver flukes were collected from ducks, metacercariae from fishes (Puntius brevis, Rasbora aurotaenia, Esomus metallicus) and cercariae from snails (Bithynia funiculata) in different localities in Binh Dinh Province. From four developmental life stage samples (adults, eggs, metacercariae and cercariae), the complete cytochrome b (cob), nicotinamide dehydrogenase subunit 1 (nad1) and cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) genes, and near-complete 18S and partial 28S ribosomal DNA (rDNA) sequences were obtained by PCR-coupled sequencing. The alignments of nucleotide sequences of concatenated cob + nad1 + cox1, and of concatenated 18S + 28S were separately subjected to phylogenetic analyses. Homologous sequences from other trematode species were included in each alignment. Results: Phylogenetic trees were inferred from concatenated (cob + nad1 + cox1) nucleotide sequences and combined 18S + 28S nucleotide sequences of five Opisthorchis sp. BD2013 samples and additional reference taxa. Both trees demonstrated the anticipated clustering of taxa within the superfamily Opisthorchioidea, the paraphyly of the genus Opisthorchis and the sister-species relationship of Opisthorchis sp. BD2013 with O. viverrini. Conclusions: While it is likely that Opisthorchis sp. BD2013 is distinct from O. viverrini, it is clearly a sister taxon of O. viverrini within the limited number of Opisthorchis species for which appropriate sequence data are available. The new sequences provided here will assist the diagnosis and the taxonomic clarification of the opisthorchiid species

The challenges posed by high population and poverty levels require the focused attention of researchers and policymakers. This article examines the effects of sustainable finance, agricultural growth, and digital agriculture on poverty reduction in Vietnam. The study used population growth as the control variable in order to make predictions about poverty alleviation. The article utilised secondary data obtained from reputable sources like the World Development Indicators (WDI) and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), spanning the years 1991 to 2022. The article employed the dynamic autoregressive distributed lag (DARDL) model to analyse the relationship between various constructs. The findings indicate that sustainable finance, agriculture growth, and digital agriculture are positively correlated with poverty alleviation in Vietnam, while population growth shows a negative correlation. The study offers guidance to regulators on how to address poverty through sustainable finance, agricultural growth, and digital agriculture.Ho Thi Hien (Nghe An University of Economics (NAUE)), Nguyen Cong Tiep (Viet Nam National University of Agriculture (VNUA)), Nguyen Thi Luong (School of Economics, Can Tho University (CTU)), Dao Thu Tra (Hong Duc University (HDU)), Nguyen Xuan Diep (Thai Nguyen University of Economics and Business Administration (TUEBA)), Tran Ba Uan (Dien Bien College of Economics and Technologies (DCET)), Vuong Thi Khanh Huyen (Viet Nam National University of Agriculture (VNUA))Includes bibliographical reference

A Particularly Sensitive Sea Area (PSSA) is an important management tool for biodiversity protection of a marine area. At the time of designation of a Particularly Sensitive Sea Area, an associated protective measure, which meets the requirements of the appropriate legal instrument establishing such measure, must have been approved or adopted by IMO to prevent, reduce, or eliminate the threat or identified vulnerability. Information on each of the Particularly Sensitive Sea Areas (PSSAs) that has been designated by IMO is available on the nautical chart. The Vietnam’s coastal zones and islands are the isolated oceanic habitat of extremely rich marine life in very good condition which is important to the maintenance and dispersal of the marine life of the western tropical Pacific. Vietnam coastal areas are very high risk areas affected by maritime activities, particularly international shipping, therefore in the future identification of some Particularly Sensitive Sea Areas (PSSAs) is necessary. The first Particularly Sensitive Sea Area for Vietnam in Ha Long - Cat Ba was initially proposed in this paper

Infectious bursal disease is a highly contagious and economically devastating disease in the poultry industry worldwide caused by Infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV). However, the data on epidemiological and molecular characteristics of the IBDV outbreak in broiler flocks in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam is unclear. Herein, the epidemiological data of IBDV–positive flocks over a period of 2015–2018 were recorded and the hypervariable region of the VP2 gene of IBDV was amplified to analyze the local phylogeny. The current investigation showed that the overall morbidity and mortality rates of IBDV–positive flocks were 45% and 4.81%, respectively. The IBDV–positive birds occurred clinical signs and macroscopic findings involved with the very virulent (vv) IBDV outbreak. Epidemiological results revealed that IBDV was frequently infected in broiler flocks at 12–42 days, and birds belonging to Tau Vang and Binh Dinh breeds were more sensitive to IBDV. Also, the morbidity rate of IBDV was dramatically decreased in the open farming system. Flocks with complete vaccination significantly dropped morbidity in comparison with other groups. Regarding phylogenetic analysis, all identified IBDV sequences clustered in the same branch of vv phenotype and closely homology with prior strains circulated in Vietnam and other countries. These findings first indicated the epidemiological characteristics of the IBDV–positive broiler flocks in the Mekong Delta and highlighted the IBDV strain circulating in this region

In this work, a composite nanomaterial consisting of graphene (Gr), double-wall carbon nanotube (DWCNTs) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), designated as DWCNTs-AuNPs-Gr was synthesized via the thermal chemical vapour deposition technique. The morphology and electrical and electrochemical properties of the material were characteried by using field emission scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, four-probe sheet resistance measurement, and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The average sheet resistance value of DWCNTs-AuNPs-Gr is 549 W/sq, 2.3 times lower than that of graphene. The current response of a DWCNTs-AuNPs-Gr-modified electrode in a 2 mM K3[Fe(CN)6]/K4[Fe(CN)6] solution with 0.1 M PBS is 15.79 µA, 1.48 times higher than that of a graphene-modified electrode and 2.57 times higher than that of a bare electrode. The DWCNTs-AuNPs-Gr material can be used for electrochemical biosensors to detect various bioelements.
