In an indoor multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) visible light communication (VLC) system, line of sight (LoS) channel links are present between a light-emitting diode (LED) based transmitter and a photodetector (PD) based receiver. The PDs in the receiver are closely packed resulting in a high channel correlation. To overcome channel correlation and improve the performance of the MIMO-VLC system, angle diversity receivers (ADRs) are commonly employed. The channel matrix entries depend on the normal vectors of the PDs, which in turn depend on the elevation angle (EA) of the PDs. Thus, by having normal vectors pointing in different directions, the channel correlation can be considerably reduced. This paper considers a special type of ADR called pyramid receiver (PR) and employs a 4x4 MIMO-VLC system. In this paper, different MIMO algorithms such as repetition coding (RC) and spatial multiplexing (SMP) are considered to exhibit and compare the bit-error-rate (BER) performance of the fixed and variable EA MIMO-VLC systems. The results show that an SMP-employed MIMO-VLC system outperforms the RC-employed MIMO-VLC system. SMP results in an spatial multiplexing gain that varies linearly with the number of LEDs whereas RC does not yield any spatial multiplexing gain. To attain the same spectral efficiency i.e. 4 bit/s/Hz, a larger signal constellation size is required for RC employed MIMO-VLC system to achieve the same BER as of an SMP employed MIMO-VLC system. Similarly, the BER performance of variable EA MIMO-VLC systems is better as compared to fixed EA MIMO-VLC systems

Objectives:  Aim of this study is to evaluate the intimal vessel wall thickness in smoker and their co-relation with non-smoker and also surgical management of stenosis. Material and Methods:  It is a prospective study of 55 cases. Study span and follow up duration were 4 months. Our patients were presented with the history of CVA (Cerebrovascular accident), hypertension, diabetes, and headache. Results:  In all patients, the carotid doppler ultrasound was done and their intimal vessel wall thickness was noted. Our 78% patients were smoker and non-smoker was 22%. In our study, 52% patients had CVA, 41% patients had hypertension, 30% patients had headache and 9% patients were also obese. Forty three smokers used to take 15 – 25 cigarettes daily. Among 43 patients, 5 patients were females. In carotid Doppler study, intimal thickness was increased in 87%, the plaque was observed in 49% and stenosis was observed in 38% cases. In 18 % patients, who had stenosis > 70%, carotid endarterectomy was performed and in rest of the patients medical treatment done.Patients who were chronic smokers and had medical co-morbidities showed greater thickness of intimal layer of vessels on carotid Doppler. In 6 patients, post-operative headache occurred. Conclusion:  Smokers had more thickness of intimal layer of carotid vessels. Carotid endarterectomy yields good results in case of stenosis more than 70%. Keywords:  Cerebrovascular accident, Intimal layer thickness, Carotid doppler ultrasound, Cigarette smokin

Does organizational justice enhance job performance through high-performance human resource practices?

[EN] This study aims to analyze the influence of organizational justice (OJ) on job performance (JP) intention via the mediating influence of high-performance human resource practices (HPHRPs) in a developing context. Equity theory and expectancy theory are widely employed in many disciplines but seldom applied to JP among Pakistan Telecommunication Limited (PTCL)  employees. The respondents in this study were 377 employees working in PTCL. Partial least square (PLS), specifically ̣ structural equation modeling was used for the data analysis. The study found a significant direct and indirect influence of distributive justice (DJ) on JP through the partial mediating role of selective staffing (SS) and extensive training (ET). Procedural justice (PJ) also, directly and indirectly, influenced JP through the partial mediating role of the incentive reward (IR). While interactional Justice (IJ), result-oriented appraisal (ROA), employment security (ES) had an insignificant influence on JP. OJ has to be synergized with HPHRPs to enhance JP. The results of this study would also augment the body of knowledge of JP in developed and under-developing countries. OJ has to be synergized with HPHRPs to enhance JP. The results of this study would also argue the body of knowledge of JP in developed and under-developing countries.Zeb, A.; Ur Rehman, F.; Arsalan, Y.; Usman Khan, M. (2021). Background: Soft tissue tumors constitute a large and heterogenous group of neoplasms. Benign tumors out number their malignant counterparts by a ratio of about 100:1 in hospital population. FNAC has emerged as a major outpatient procedure for the diagnosis of soft tissue tumors due to low cost of the procedure, less complications, feasibility, quick results and high therapeutic efficiency with specificity and sensitivity of approximately 95%. The diagnostic accuracy of FNAC of soft tissue tumors in distinguishing benign and malignant lesion is also very high. The objectives of this study were to study the role of FNAC in the diagnosis of soft tissue tumors and its correlation with histopathology. Also, this study aimed at studying various cytomorphological patterns of soft tissue tumors and correlating cytological grading with histopathological grading. Methods: It was a hospital based study of 5 years which included 479 patients of all age groups, clinically presenting with soft tissue swellings. FNAC was performed. Smears were stained with Papanicolaou (PAP)/May Grunwald Geimsa (MGG). The cytological details of soft tissue tumors were studied and broadly classified into benign, malignant and indeterminate and suspicious. Cytomorphological subtyping and grading of tumors on FNAC was done. The cytological findings were correlated with the histopathological results, wherever available. Results: Benign tumors comprised of 423 cases (88.3%) and malignant tumors comprised 56 cases (11.69%)only. Maximum number of cases were seen in well differentiated/lipomatous group (339 cases) followed by spindle cell category (88 cases). Histopathological correlation carried out in 136 out of 479 cases (benign:111 and malignant :25) revealed that out of 111 cases diagnosed as benign by cytology, one case was malignant (liposarcoma) and among 25 malignant cases diagnosed by cytology one case was benign (myofibroblastoma). Overall sensitivity and specificity of FNAC was 96% and 99% respectively. Comparison of cytological and histopathological grading of 24 sarcomas showed overall concordance of 75%.Conclusions: FNAC is an excellent diagnostic modality in early diagnosis of soft tissue tumors. FNAC is highly reliable and obviates surgical procedures especially in high risk patients thus facilitating initiation of appropriate therapy and saving time and manpower. It is also highly sensitive in detecting benign soft tissue tumors and highly specific for malignant soft issue tumors

Capacity Dimensioning of HSDPA Urban Network

    Get PDF
To launch a cellular network, prelaunch capacity dimensioning is performed which includes coverage estimation and throughput prediction. Cellular companies in developing countries like Pakistan are only providing 2G services, while 3G services are yet to be launched. Although a lot of research has been done on 3G services in developed countries but there is very little knowledge regarding practical aspects of planning and optimization of 3G networks in third world countries like Pakistan. This research paper includes a thorough analysis of factors that affect capacity of 3G networks, including radio propagation models. Various propagation models are studied and propagation constants of Standard Propagation Model are tuned according to topography of Islamabad. The performance analysis of these propagation models is done using Matlab and results are verified through planning tool Atoll and field measurements. Based on analysis of these results capacity dimensioning, in terms of number of sites, is carried out for an urban network of Islamabad

In order to ascertain the food quality for human consumption the bacteriological analysis was carried out in a prospective study in collaboration with National Institute of Health, Islamabad. The surveillance work was conducted during the months of July to August peak summer season to evaluate the objective parameters for assessment of the bacteriological and hygienic status of food being consumed in the peri-urban area of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Out of a total of 91 samples, the various bacterial contaminants such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella, fungal species were isolated and identified using standard cultural and biochemical methods. It was observed that in total food samples, 25.5% were positive for E. coli, 16.6% for S. aureus and 11.1% for Salmonella species. This study highlighted the poor hygienic conditions for the food quality standards in the area of investigation. It was concluded that the food related endemic health concerns can be checked by taking appropriate preventive measures to forestall the outbreaks of gastroenteritis and food poisoning in the future as a serious health problem. Keywords: Faecal coliforms, total viable count, total plate count

Design and Performance Analysis of Blind Algorithm in Wireless Communication

    Get PDF
In this paper, the concept of blind algorithm with automatic gain control (AGC) is introduced in adaptive antenna system for signal optimization with an aim is to estimate the desired response in adaptive fashion. Blind algorithm with AGC is a two-stageadaptive filtering algorithm; a combination of Bessel least mean square (BLMS) and constant modulus algorithm (CMA). Blind Bessel beamformer with AGC does not require external reference signal to update its weight vectors and step size for convergence but updates itself from own reference signal obtained from the output of CMA. Similarly, step size is obtained from the correlation matrix which is the product of the signals induced in array elements of antenna. BLMS is the modified version of LMS algorithm; based on the non-uniform step size exploiting the asymptotic decay property of Bessel function of the first kind. The output of CMA provides input and reference signals for BLMS that makes it blind. The contributions of this paper include the development of novel blind theory concept and presentation of an AGC method in order to make the Bessel beamformer blind which can update itself electronically through the correlation matrix depending on the signal array vector with the aim to make the signal power constant

Objectives:  The study compared the outcomes of VP shunt at Choudhary’s vs Keen’s point. Material and Methods:  A quasi-observational study was conducted on 50 patients who presented to NS-2, PINS, with the complaint of hydrocephalus. The study was conducted for 3 months from 1st November 2021 to 31th Jan 2022. Results:  Mean age was 40 years. In 25 (50%) patients, VP shunts were done through Choudhary’s point while in 25 (50%) patients VP shunts were done through Keen’s point. All patients were evaluated on day 3rd POD, 7th POD, 15th POD, and 90th POD.  All patients were improved on 3rd POD. On the 7th POD, 15 (30%) patients deteriorated and showed signs of raised ICP. In these patients, the upper end of VP shunts is again revised due to blockage. On 15th POD, the upper end of VP shunts was blocked in 3 (6%) patients and their upper end was revised. On 90th POD, 2 (4%) patients were presented with upper-end blockage, and again shunt revision was done.  VP shunts in all these patients were done through keen’s point approach. Blockage of the lower end of VP shunt occurred in 10% of patients in which 8% were operated through Keen’s point approach while resting 2% of patients were operated through Choudhary’s point approach.  Conclusion:  VP shunts through Choudhary’s point approach yield good results as compared to Keen's point approach. This site is described by professor Muhammad Anwar Choudhary, as more convenient for insertion of VP shunt
