Texas A&M University Libraries has been using VIVO in production since 2015. In that time, we have come up with many creative solutions to meet the needs of our users. In early 2019, we began developing a replacement front end for the VIVO interface to formally address campus demands here at Texas A&M University. Initial requirements: * Align the technology stack as much as possible with the existing VIVO stack to assist with implementation by others if they choose especially smaller libraries. * The majority of the front end is customizable by others. * Read only UI. No updating back to the triple store. * All data is retrieved via a REST API endpoint using Spring Data for Apache Solr. * 100% Search Engine Optimization. IE: A person / crawler can disable JavaScript and still have the same experience. Server side, and Client side rendering if needed

Introducing a large polar tetragonal distortion into Ba doped BiFeO3 by low temperature fluorination
This article reports on the synthesis and crystallographic and magnetic structure of barium-doped BiFeO3 compounds with approximate composition Bi(1-x)BaxFeO(3-x/2), as well as those of the fluorinated compounds Bi(1-x)BaxFeO(3-x)F(x) (both with x = 0.2, 0.3), prepared by low-temperature fluorination of the oxide precursors using polyvinylidenedifluoride. Whereas the oxide compounds were obtained as cubic (x = 0.2) and slightly tetragonal (x = 0.3, c/a approximate to 1.003) distorted perovskite compounds, a large tetragonal polar distortion was observed for the oxyfluoride compounds (c/a approximate to 1.08 for x = 0.2 and similar to 1.05 for x = 0.3), being isostructural to tetragonal PbTiO3. Although described differently in previous reports on Ba-doped BiFeO3, the observed remanent magnetization is found to agree well with the amount of BaFe12O19 only detectable by neutron diffraction and the well-known magnetic properties of BaFe12O19. The oxyfluoride compounds show G-type antiferromagnetic ordering with magnetic moments lying in the a/b plane
Gene content evolution in the arthropods
Arthropods comprise the largest and most diverse phylum on Earth and play vital roles in nearly every ecosystem. Their diversity stems in part from variations on a conserved body plan, resulting from and recorded in adaptive changes in the genome. Dissection of the genomic record of sequence change enables broad questions regarding genome evolution to be addressed, even across hyper-diverse taxa within arthropods. Using 76 whole genome sequences representing 21 orders spanning more than 500 million years of arthropod evolution, we document changes in gene and protein domain content and provide temporal and phylogenetic context for interpreting these innovations. We identify many novel gene families that arose early in the evolution of arthropods and during the diversification of insects into modern orders. We reveal unexpected variation in patterns of DNA methylation across arthropods and examples of gene family and protein domain evolution coincident with the appearance of notable phenotypic and physiological adaptations such as flight, metamorphosis, sociality, and chemoperception. These analyses demonstrate how large-scale comparative genomics can provide broad new insights into the genotype to phenotype map and generate testable hypotheses about the evolution of animal diversity
SMURF1 Amplification Promotes Invasiveness in Pancreatic Cancer
Pancreatic cancer is a deadly disease, and new therapeutic targets are urgently needed. We previously identified DNA amplification at 7q21-q22 in pancreatic cancer cell lines. Now, by high-resolution genomic profiling of human pancreatic cancer cell lines and human tumors (engrafted in immunodeficient mice to enrich the cancer epithelial fraction), we define a 325 Kb minimal amplicon spanning SMURF1, an E3 ubiquitin ligase and known negative regulator of transforming growth factor β (TGFβ) growth inhibitory signaling. SMURF1 amplification was confirmed in primary human pancreatic cancers by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), where 4 of 95 cases (4.2%) exhibited amplification. By RNA interference (RNAi), knockdown of SMURF1 in a human pancreatic cancer line with focal amplification (AsPC-1) did not alter cell growth, but led to reduced cell invasion and anchorage-independent growth. Interestingly, this effect was not mediated through altered TGFβ signaling, assayed by transcriptional reporter. Finally, overexpression of SMURF1 (but not a catalytic mutant) led to loss of contact inhibition in NIH-3T3 mouse embryo fibroblast cells. Together, these findings identify SMURF1 as an amplified oncogene driving multiple tumorigenic phenotypes in pancreatic cancer, and provide a new druggable target for molecularly directed therapy

Inflation and Dark Energy from spectroscopy at z > 2
The expansion of the Universe is understood to have accelerated during two
epochs: in its very first moments during a period of Inflation and much more
recently, at z < 1, when Dark Energy is hypothesized to drive cosmic
acceleration. The undiscovered mechanisms behind these two epochs represent
some of the most important open problems in fundamental physics. The large
cosmological volume at 2 < z < 5, together with the ability to efficiently
target high- galaxies with known techniques, enables large gains in the
study of Inflation and Dark Energy. A future spectroscopic survey can test the
Gaussianity of the initial conditions up to a factor of ~50 better than our
current bounds, crossing the crucial theoretical threshold of
of order unity that separates single field and
multi-field models. Simultaneously, it can measure the fraction of Dark Energy
at the percent level up to , thus serving as an unprecedented test of
the standard model and opening up a tremendous discovery space
Gaps and opportunities in refractory status epilepticus research in children: A multi-center approach by the Pediatric Status Epilepticus Research Group (pSERG)
PURPOSE:
Status epilepticus (SE) is a life-threatening condition that can be refractory to initial treatment. Randomized controlled studies to guide treatment choices, especially beyond first-line drugs, are not available. This report summarizes the evidence that guides the management of refractory convulsive SE (RCSE) in children, defines gaps in our clinical knowledge and describes the development and works of the \u27pediatric Status Epilepticus Research Group\u27 (pSERG). METHODS:
A literature review was performed to evaluate current gaps in the pediatric SE and RCSE literature. In person and online meetings helped to develop and expand the pSERG network. RESULTS:
The care of pediatric RCSE is largely based on extrapolations of limited evidence derived from adult literature and supplemented with case reports and case series in children. No comparative effectiveness trials have been performed in the pediatric population. Gaps in knowledge include risk factors for SE, biomarkers of SE and RCSE, second- and third-line treatment options, and long-term outcome. CONCLUSION:
The care of children with RCSE is based on limited evidence. In order to address these knowledge gaps, the multicenter pSERG was established to facilitate prospective collection, analysis, and sharing of de-identified data and biological specimens from children with RCSE. These data will allow identification of treatment strategies associated with better outcomes and delineate evidence-based interventions to improve the care of children with SE
