Single-electron transitions in one-dimensional native nanostructures
Low-temperature measurements proved the existence of a two-dimensional electron gas at defined dislocation arrays in silicon. As a consequence, single-electron transitions (Coulomb blockades) are observed. It is shown that the high strain at dislocation cores modifies the band structure and results in the formation of quantum wells along dislocation lines. This causes quantization of energy levels inducing the formation of Coulomb blockades
Photoassociation inside an optical dipole trap: absolute rate coefficients and Franck-Condon factors
We present quantitative measurements of the photoassociation of cesium
molecules inside a far-detuned optical dipole trap. A model of the trap
depletion dynamics is derived which allows to extract absolute photoassociation
rate coefficients for the initial single-photon photoassociation step from
measured trap-loss spectra. The sensitivity of this approach is demonstrated by
measuring the Franck-Condon modulation of the weak photoassociation transitions
into the low vibrational levels of the outer well of the 0g- state that
correlates to the 6s+6p3/2 asymptote. The measurements are compared to
theoretical predictions. In a magneto-optical trap these transitions have
previously only been observed indirectly through ionization of ground state
molecules
Snowboarding is one of the forms of skiing that has become more common in Finland since the 1980s, especially among young people. The sport is fast-paced, and loss of balance can easily lead to injury in an accident. Acute injuries are most common in downhill skiing and the most common injury in snowboarding is a wrist fracture. In theory, acute injuries are also largely preventable.
Injuries can be prevented with a proper use of safety equipment, as well as considering your own skill level. According to studies, training in balance and muscle condition can prevent falls and thus accidents.
The goal of the thesis was to create a functional training guide for young people and other sports enthusiasts, which can be utilized in off-season training. The purpose was to reduce falls with a research-based exercise program.
The functional part of the thesis is an exercise guide, which is in video format and includes initial warm-up, main movements, and final cooling sections. The movements consist of the activation, mobility and balance exercises of the muscles needed for downhill skiing, based on research evidence
