    PELATIHAN KETERAMPILAN BERBAHASA INGGRIS DOSEN DAN TENAGA KEPENDIDIKAN BERBASIS KONTEKS AKADEMIK DAN PERKANTORAN DI UIN MAHMUD YUNUS BATUSANGKAR

    English is a language that is needed by the academic community at State Islamic University (UIN) Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar to develop networks, communication skills and improve the quality of lecturers and staffs. With the creation of an English-speaking atmosphere by lecturers and staffs, it is hoped that interactions in English will occur frequently so that they can invite international students or international academics to carry out collaborative activities in the academic or non-academic fields. Therefore, the entire academic community of UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar is trying to improve the abilities of its lecturers and staffs so that the graduates produced can compete at the national and international levels and have a good English speaking atmosphere on campus. Related to the problems faced by UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar, we have dedicated English skills training activities in academic and office contexts with the aim of helping the vision and mission of their campus to accept students or academics from abroad. This training was carried out by preparing modules and using role-play learning models or demonstrations.     As a medium of instruction, English does not easily develop in Indonesia. It is even becoming a problem in communication where many parties are not interested to use it in communication. On the contrary, world of Industries really demand the workers to be able to speak and write in English well. SMA DEK as one of the private school that its graduated students directly work in companies after graduation answers the problem. It provides its students with various English program such as english day, English zone, learning TOEFL and English Proficiency. By considering the quality of the students, these programs are expected running well. Emphasizing listening skill is the main purpose because it is the most activity used by students during English learning. So that, observation method, testing method and discussion method are implemented in order to find out the student qualification to answer the challenge. From the community service implementation, it is found that the students have been good on listening skill understanding. During the participant observation, they make and answer the question freely. While implementing the listening TOEFL test, they can answer the questions well and when the discussion method comes, they argue about the correct answer by giving their own reason. It finally concludes that, by learning the Listening TOEFL test, SMA DEK students are motivated to speak freely and give comment toward the given information

    Abstrak Latar belakang penelitian berdasarkan observasi peneliti dalam film Half Nelson yang menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pola IRF yang digunakan selama interaksi antara guru dan siswa di dalam kelas. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana pola IRF terjadi di dalam kelas, bagaimana guru berinisiatif, bagaimana respon siswa, dan bagaimana umpan baliknya. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan pendekatan analisis wacana dalam linguistik terapan dan menggunakan metode deskriptif. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah interaksi yang terjadi ketika guru dan siswa saling berinteraksi dalam naskah film Half Nelson. Penelitian ini menggunakan purposive sampling sebagai teknik pengumpulan data. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada enam jenis inisiasi yang digunakan, yaitu teacher elicit, teacher direct, teacher inform, teacher listing, re-inisiation (i), re-initiation (ii). Respon tersebut adalah respon siswa spesifik, silent, silent-av, bingung berorientasi kerja, tertawa, respon siswa open-ended, dan nonverbal. Jenis-jenis umpan balik adalah mengulang, mengakui jawaban yang benar, memperluas atau memodifikasi, menunjukkan jawaban yang salah, meringkas, memuji. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, dapat disimpulkan bahwa guru menggunakan berbagai jenis inisiasi dalam situasi yang berbeda.Kata Kunci: Pola IRF, Film Half Nelson, InteraksiAbstractThe background of the research based on the researcher observation in Half Nelson movie which indicated that there was an IRF pattern used during interactions between teachers and students in the classroom. The purpose of this study is to find out how the IRF pattern occurs in the classroom, how the teacher initiates, how students respond, and how the feedback. This research was conducted using qualitative research by using a discourse analysis approach in applied linguistics and using descriptive methods. The data in this study is the interaction that occurs when teachers and students interact with each other in the Half Nelson movie script. This study uses purposive sampling as a technique in data collection. The results of this study indicate that there are six types of initiation used, namely teacher elicit, teacher direct, teacher inform, teacher listing, re-initiation (i), re-initiation (ii). The responses are students’ response specific, silent, silent-av, confused work-oriented, laughter, students’ response open-ended, and nonverbal. The types of feedback are repeating, acknowledging a correct answer, expanding or modifying, indicating an incorrect answer, summarizing, praising. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that the teacher used various types of initiation in different situation.Keywords: IRF Pattern, Half Nelson Movie, Interaction

This article will illustrate Minangkabau's Minangkabau form of language into Minangkabau literature and its transition into a showpiece. The forms of writing are manifest in literature. The scope of Minangkabau literature is of course a literary work within the Minangkabau region. Minangkabau literature is an indigenous literature, which is a description of feelings, values and thoughts in the level of the proper path that is expressed in Minangkabau language inherited by oral or kato-kato or rundiang kato bamisa (eg word-like bracket) of a generation of kegenarasi.     Penelitian ini berfokus pada analisis tipe prosedur penerjemahan atau tingkatan padanan makna yang digunakan untuk mengartikan kata-kata budaya dari brosur Dinas Pariwisata Kota Solok. Tujuan dalam penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan tipe-tipe padanan kata budaya pada brosur pariwisata Kota Solok. Teori yang digunakan adalah teori prosedur penerjemahan dari Newmark dan kesetaraan arti dari Bell. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif yang mana peneliti memaparkan isu secara deskriptif. Setelah melakukan analisis, peneliti menyimpulkan terdapat 22 kata budaya yang mencakup ekologi, budaya material, budaya sosial, kebiasaan, dan organisasi yang terdapat dalam penelitian ini. Kata budaya yang sering digunakan adalah ekologi dan material budaya dan kelas kata yang sering digunakan adalah kata benda. Selain itu, peneliti juga menyimpulkan bahwa terdapat tingkatan kesepadanan arti yaitu sepenuhnya setara, sebagian setara, dan berbeda arti.     Communication problems may occur in EIL contexts when English language users from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds conveying their messages. Being intelligible should not be seen as simple as pronunciation problems but it has other essential issues beyond it. To overcome such problem, there is a need for the English language learners to be aware of the intelligibility issues. This paper discusses the importance of introducing the intelligibility issues in EIL contexts for English language learners at secondary education in order to prepare them to communicate effectively with the diverse English language users around the world. The analytical scheme developed by Hu and McKay (2014) which defines the dimension of integrating multilingual and multicultural practices is adopted to select the YouTube video clips for the teaching materials. This practical guidance for introducing the intelligibility issues to the secondary school students could be employed by the English teachers to raise their students’ awareness toward the construct of intelligibility in EIL contexts

    This study aimed to describe the development of a blended learning model in the Writing in Media course in the face of the 4.0 era. This study uses the ADDIE model which is limited to the analysis stage. This study uses the following methods: observation with a tick observation technique, and notes; documentation with document analysis techniques; and survey with a questionnaire technique. Research data in the form of curriculum, SAP, and teaching methods. The results of the study indicate that (1) the curriculum must be revised to meet the knowledge needs of students and stakeholders, (2) the components and features of news must be mastered by students because many stakeholders need skills to work, (3) the application of a mixed learning model of writing for course media improve student skills and grades.Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan pengembangan model blended learning pada mata kuliah Menulis di Media dalam menghadapi era 4.0. Penelitian ini menggunakan model ADDIE yang dibatasi pada tahap analisis. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode: observasi dengan teknik observasi centang, dan catat; dokumentasi dengan teknik analisis dokumen; dan survei dengan teknik kuesioner. Data penelitian berupa kurikulum, SAP dan metode pengajaran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) kurikulum harus direvisi untuk memenuhi kebutuhan pengetahuan mahasiswa dan pemangku kepentingan, (2) komponen dan fitur berita harus dikuasai oleh mahasiswa karena banyak pemangku kepentingan membutuhkan keterampilan untuk bekerja, (3) penerapan model pembelajaran campuran menulis untuk media kursus meningkatkan keterampilan dan nilai mahasiswa

    Since 2015, Asean Economic Community has +been implemented in Indonesia. One of the great changes is using English for communication. English has still been a foreign language for Indonesian people. Consequently, English is learned and started in kindergarten from university to make Indonesian people familiar with English. Listening becomes a difficult subject for the students because they could not answer the questions and they got bad grades for examination. It was to find out what the need analysis important for the teacher and students to study English. It used a descriptive qualitative method with the instruments such as questionnaires, document checklists, and interviews. The population of the research was 72 students and the sampling was total sampling. After analyzing the data, from the questionnaire filled up by students, it is found that almost all students agree about the items of teaching materials proposed by Hutchinson and Water. The results are 92.75% for 2016 A, 98.87% for 2016 B, and 92.46 % for 2016 C. The total is 94.69% of students agree with the teaching material. From the document, checklist shows that the teaching materials used on the Listening subject have not fulfilled provide a stimulus to learning, help to organize the teaching-learning process, use nature of language and learning, provide nature of learning task, broadening the teacher’s knowledge, and provide correct and appropriate language use. Interview information shows that teaching materials for Listening subjects are a combination of many sources without being analyzed and investigated by lecturers. Finally, the most important aspect is an appropriate teaching material must be made to fulfill the learning outcomes
