Religion in the discourse of politics : a debate on abortion in Poland
Artykuł dotyczy polskiego sporu aborcyjnego osadzonego w realiach dyskursu polityki. Analiza
socjologiczna analiza dyskursu, zdefiniowana głównie według założeń Jorge Ruiz Ruiz i uzupełniona
elementami analizy ilościowej.Abstract: The aim of the article is to present the Polish discourse of politics related to the question of the
abortion law. The analysis focuses on parliamentary debates that took place between 2006/2007 and 2016,
thus, after years: 1989 and 2004 which are recognized as the two turning points of Polish transformation
and democratization processes. The paper presents the discursive strategies applied by the adversaries as
well as underlines the religious arguments formulated by them. The method, that has been chosen for the
investigation, is the sociological discourse analysis defined mainly according to Jorge Ruiz and supplemented
by the elements of the quantitative research
Neoclassical realism and foreign policy analysis : a possible way of integration?
The main goal of the article is to discuss whether neoclassical realism (NCR), described as the most recent realist research programme might be perceived as a fruitful way of integrating IR theory with the assumptions of foreign policy analysis (FPA). Consequently, the research question that has to be answered, is whether the NCR has succeeded as a new research programme developed as an attempt to give the Waltzian theory more explanatory power. The article starts with a critical analysis of the main assumptions of the NCR, after which it focuses on FPA defined as a subdiscipline of IR. The third part of the text draws the attention to the neoclassical realism’s integration of ‘intervening variables’ that bring FPA insights into the realist theoretical paradigm. It is argued that apart from numerous theoretical flaws, there is still a possible way to develop its theoretical depth through careful borrowing from FPA
Propozycje ponowoczesnych interpretacji – metodyczny dwugłos o praktykowaniu lektury i praktykach czytania
The article is a review of two monographs: Praktyki czytania. Ponowoczesna interpretacja a szkoła of Grażyna Tomaszewska and Praktykowanie lektury of Dariusz Szczukowski, published in 2019. The authors are professors of the University of Gdańsk who meet the expectations of contemporary school and propose ways of working with literary texts that inspire teachers and students, allowing them to open up to the multidimensionality of reading perspectives.Artykuł jest recenzją dwóch monografii: Praktyki czytania. Ponowoczesna interpretacja a szkoła Grażyny Tomaszewskiej i Praktykowanie lektury Dariusza Szczukowskiego, wydanych w 2019 roku.
The aim of the article is to broaden the knowledge of the selection and the use of literature applied in the education and therapy of children and young people. The text is addressed to teachers, educators, librarians, pedagogues and psychologists who want to develop skills of independent conducting classes with elements of bibliotherapy and to learn the value of reading (not only school) in work with students with special educational and reading needs. The author, referring to the statements of candidates for the teaching profession, draws attention to the therapeutic value of literature. She also encourages independent search and selection of various texts for students who are reluctant to read, students with dyslexia, ADHD and for people with disabilities, chronically ill and struggling with various problems and fears.
The Polish dispute over in vitro : the character of public debate
The aim of the article is to present the polish discourse on in vitro fertilization (IVF)
and law regulation related to this issue. This article investigates the discursive strategies presented in the political discourse as well as in the part of public discourse,
where the positions of proponents and opponents of the IVF are articulated. The
publication presents the arguments of the Catholic clergy as well as activists and
journalists associated with the Church (mainly presented in the press and on the
Internet). In addition, the article shows the views of those who are strongly engaged
in the promotion of the in vitro fertilization in Poland (their arguments are mostly
presented in the press, media as well as on the Internet websites that were established
especially for this reason). The article analyses the question of the identity of those
who are IVF children and who recently are also taking part in the public debate related
to this issue. The method, that has been chosen for the investigation, is the sociological
discourse analysis, which enables to understand the social world (and political
as well) from within while focusing on sense and reference of communication
acts. Consequently, it can be applied to studying N. Luhmann’s system theory that
assumes the investigation of the social system from within its own functioning
Domain enhanced interlayer coupling in ferroelectric/paraelectric superlattices
We investigate the ferroelectric phase transition and domain formation in a
periodic superlattice consisting of alternate ferroelectric (FE) and
paraelectric (PE) layers of nanometric thickness. We find that the polarization
domains formed in the different FE layers can interact with each other via the
PE layers. By coupling the electrostatic equations with those obtained by
minimizing the Ginzburg-Landau functional we calculate the critical temperature
of transition Tc as a function of the FE/PE superlattice wavelength and
quantitatively explain the recent experimental observation of a thickness
dependence of the ferroelectric transition temperature in KTaO3/KNbO3
strained-layer superlattices.Comment: Latest version as was published in PR
Epitaxial growth and structural characterization of Pb(Fe1/2Nb1/2)O3 thin films
We have grown lead iron niobate thin films with composition Pb(Fe1/2Nb1/2)O3
(PFN) on (0 0 1) SrTiO3 substrates by pulsed laser deposition. The influence of
the deposition conditions on the phase purity was studied. Due to similar
thermodynamic stability spaces, a pyrochlore phase often coexists with the PFN
perovskite phase. By optimizing the kinetic parameters, we succeeded in
identifying a deposition window which resulted in epitaxial perovskite-phase
PFN thin films with no identifiable trace of impurity phases appearing in the
X-ray diffractograms. PFN films having thicknesses between 20 and 200 nm were
smooth and epitaxially oriented with the substrate and as demonstrated by RHEED
streaks which were aligned with the substrate axes. X-ray diffraction showed
that the films were completely c-axis oriented and of excellent crystalline
quality with low mosaicity (X-ray rocking curve FWHM<0.09). The surface
roughness of thin films was also investigated by atomic force microscopy. The
root-mean-square roughness varies between 0.9 nm for 50-nm-thick films to 16 nm
for 100-nm-thick films. We also observe a correlation between grain size,
surface roughness and film thickness.Comment: 13 Pages, 6 figures. To be published in J. Mag. Mag Mater.

Miejsce krzyża w przestrzeni publicznej - analiza wybranych debat
The aim of the article is to present the public discourse on the presence of a cross in the Polish parliament, which began after the parliamentary elections in 2011. At this time a group of the party Ruch Poparcia Palikota (RPP) submitted to the Marshal of the Sejm a request for its removal from the chamber. The article presents selected topics from the debate, focusing mainly on the arguments presented in the proposal and expertise of the Parliamentary Research Bureau and the arguments formulated in “Gazeta Wyborcza” newspaper, where they are presented as a continuation of the debate only initiated in the parliament, and then transferred to the media. Parliamentary debate took place only in one area – the political rivalry between the parties – while in the media appeared topics initiated by other institutions than the parties, i.e. educational institutions, public administration institutions and private individuals
