This is the peer reviewed version of the following article: OâReilly, M., Kiyimba, N., & Karim, K. (2016). âThis is a question we have to ask everyoneâ: asking young people about self-harm and suicide. Journal of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing, 23(8), 479-488. http://doi.org/10.1111/jpm.12323, which has been published in final form at http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/jpm.12323/abstract. This article may be used for non-commercial purposes in accordance with Wiley Terms and Conditions for Self-ArchivingIntroduction: Questions about self-harm and suicide are essential in risk assessments with children and young people, yet little is known about how mental health practitioners do this. Aim: The core aim was to examine how questions about self-harm and suicidal ideation are asked in real-world practice. Method: A qualitative design was employed to analyse 28 video-recorded naturally occurring mental health assessments in a child and adolescent mental health service. Data were analysed using conversation analysis (CA). Results: In 13 cases young people were asked about self-harm and suicide, but 15 were not. Analysis revealed how practitioners asked these questions. Two main styles were revealed. First was an incremental approach, beginning with inquiries about emotions and behaviours, building to asking about self-harm and suicidal intent. Second was to externalize the question as being required by outside agencies. Discussion: The study concluded that the design of risk questions to young people had implications for how open they were to engaging with the practitioner. Implications for practice: The study has implications for training and practice for psychiatric nurses and other mental health practitioners in feeling more confident in communicating with young people about self-harm and suicidal ideation
Solving the Weighted Constraint Satisfaction Problems Via the Neural Network Approach
A wide variety of real world optimization problems
can be modelled as Weighted Constraint Satisfaction Problems
(WCSPs). In this paper, we model this problem in terms of in
original 0-1 quadratic programming subject to leaner constraints.
View it performance, we use the continuous Hopfield network to
solve the obtained model basing on original energy function. To
validate our model, we solve several instance of benchmarking
WCSP. In this regard, our approach recognizes the optimal
solution of the said instances
Question use in child mental health assessments and the challenges of listening to families.
This is an author-produced electronic version of an article accepted for publication in the British Journal of Psychiatry Open. The definitive publisher-authenticated version is available online at https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/bjpsych-openBackground: The mental health assessment is a fundamental aspect of clinical practice and central to this is the use of questions. Aims: To investigate the frequency and type of questions utilised within a child mental health assessment. Method: The data consisted of 28 naturally occurring assessments from a UK child and adolescent mental health service. Data were analysed using quantitative and qualitative content analysis to determine frequencies and question type. Results: Results indicated a total of 9086 questions in 41âh across the 28 clinical encounters. This equated to a mean of 3.7 questions per minute. Four types of questions were identified; yesâno interrogatives, wh-prefaced questions, declarative questions and tag questions. Conclusions: The current format of questioning may impede the opportunity for families to fully express their particular concerns and this has implications for service delivery and training
Purpose - This paper aims to examine the volatility of money velocity and also estimate the velocity of money function in Malaysia by using quarterly time series
data. Design/Methodology/Approach - This study employed recent econometric techniques such as volatility model in ARCH and GARCH frameworks, Johansen co integration test, and Vector Error Correction Model (VECM). Findings - The results showed that the velocity of money for M1 (V1) and M2
(V2) are volatile and persistence rather than M3 (V3). The Johansen co-integration test result indicated that the existence of long-run relationships between velocity
of money V1, V2 and V3 on the dependent variables, such as bond interest rate, deposit rate, and income. Furthermore, the VECM result showed that the changes in dependent variables such as bond interest rate, deposit rate, and income do significantly influence the changes in velocity of money for V2 and V3 in the long run. Conversely, in the short run, a change in the national income has only
significantly caused changes in the velocity of money V2 and V3, while the interest rate is significant in causing the velocity of money V3. Originality/Value - This paper explores extensively the modern econometric techniques in investigating the issue of volatility and velocity of money in Malaysia. Paper type - Research paper
Small bowel intussusception with the Meckel's diverticulum after blunt abdominal trauma: a case report
Intussusception with the Meckel's diverticulum is a rare but well-known cause of small bowel obstruction in the adult. After blunt abdominal trauma, intussusception is exceedingly rare and has been reported previously only in few cases. We present a case of a previously healthy 28-year-old man developing four days after blunt abdominal trauma signs of small bowel obstruction. Ileo-ileal intussusception was suggested by computed tomography. Exploration revealed ileo-ileal intussusception with Meckel's diverticulum. A diverticulectomy with small bowel resection was performed
Colonic adenocarcinoma revealing Crohn's disease: a case report
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Introduction</p> <p>There is growing evidence from epidemiological studies and clinicopathological data obtained from case reports that Crohn's disease is associated with an increased risk of carcinoma of the large bowel.</p> <p>Case presentation</p> <p>A 70-year-old Arabic African man with undiagnosed Crohn's disease presented with acute abdominal obstruction due to an occlusive carcinoma of the sigmoid. At laparotomy, the colonic tumor was excised with continuity restored by end-to-end anastomosis.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>The risk of colonic carcinoma in Crohn's disease is increasing. Several case reports actually support the possibility that a genuine association between these two conditions exists.</p
Kuala Lumpur (KLCI).
portfolio antarabangsa
