    THE EXAMINATION OF RESPECT LEVEL OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS FOR DIFFERENCES ACCORDING TO VARIOUS VARIABLES

    The purpose of this descriptive study is to examine respect level of the undergraduate students for differences according to the various variables such as gender, department and foreign language preparation class education. The participants of the study consisted of 242 students studying at Afyon Kocatepe University, Turkey in the spring term of 2016-2017 academic year. Simple random sampling method was used in selecting the participants. To collect the data, a “Respect of Difference Survey” developed by Öksüz and Güven (2012) was used. The survey consists of three subscales of ‘informational’, ‘social categories’ and ‘value’ differences. In the analyses, firstly, descriptive statistics such as frequencies, means, and standard deviations were computed to display the subjects’ overall responses to the respect level for differences. Secondly, t-test was conducted in order to determine whether there were any significant differences in respect level of undergraduate students for respect in terms of gender, department and prep class education variables. It has been found that undergraduate students have a high respect level for differences.  Article visualizations

    An athlete always wants to be appreciated, loved and respected. In this study conducted with the purpose of determining the basic psychological needs of the students studying in schools of physical education and sports, faculties of sports sciences and other higher education institutions offering sports education, whether the athlete students are aware of their basic psychological needs has been analyzed. Another purpose of the research is to determine which psychological needs the students receiving sports education have most and to make interpretations as per the results yielded by the sub-dimensions of the scale. The questionnaire method was used in the research with the purpose of determining the basic psychological needs of students. The scale used in the research is New Psychological Needs Scale (NPNS) developed by Heckert et al. (2000) and adapted into Turkish and its reliability and validity tests conducted by Kesici (2007). NPNS is a 20-item five point Likert grading scale (“1” for totally disagree, “2” for disagree, “3” for hesitant, “4” for agree, “5” for totally agree). SPSS 18.0 package program was used in analysis of data. Percentage, frequency, average, standard deviation values were used for descriptive information; independent t-test was used for the comparison of different groups and one-way variance analysis (ANOVA) was used for the comparison of multiple groups. In sports with the significance level of p<0.05 obtained after the statistical calculation between the variables of students, some differences were ascertained between sexes and the point average of basic psychological needs of girls was found to be higher than boys. It is known very well that women are more sensitive and emotional in their nature. Their special days and the hormones secreted considerably affect and change their feelings and thoughts. ÖzetSosyal bir olgu olan sporunda kişilerde birçok psikolojik ihtiyaç ortaya çıkardığı bir gerçektir. Bir sporcu takdir edilmek, sevilmek, saygınlık kazanmak her zaman isteyecektir. Beden eğitimi ve spor yüksekokullarında, spor bilimleri fakültelerinde ve spor eğitimi veren diğer yükseköğretim kurumlarında öğrenim gören öğrencilerin temel psikolojik ihtiyaçlarının belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılan bu çalışmada aynı zamanda sporcu öğrencilerin temel psikolojik ihtiyaçlarının farkında olup olmadıkları da incelenmiştir. Araştırmada öğrencilerin temel psikolojik ihtiyaçlarını belirlemek amacıyla anket yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada kullanılan ölçek Heckert ve Ark. (2000) tarafından geliştirilen Türkçeye uyarlaması ve geçerlilik güvenilirlik testini Kesici (2007)’nin yapmış olduğu (YPİÖ) Yeni Psikolojik İhtiyaçlar Ölçeğidir. YPİÖ 20 madden oluşan beş basamaklı Likert (“1” hiç katılmıyorum, “2” katılmıyorum, “3” kararsızım, “4” katılıyorum, “5” tamamen katılıyorum) bir dereceleme ölçeği şeklindedir. Verilerin analizinde SPSS 18.0 paket programından yararlanılmıştır. Betimleyici bilgiler için yüzde, frekans, ortalama, standart sapma değerleri, farklı grupların karşılaştırılmasında bağımsız t-testi, çoklu grupların karşılaştırılmasında ise tek yönlü varyans analizi (ANOVA) kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada verilerin analizi sonucunda spor eğitimi alan öğrencilerin temel psikolojik ihtiyaçları çeşitli değişkenler açısından incelenmiş ve cinsiyetler arasında p<0,05 düzeyinde anlamlı farklılık tespit edilmiştir. Buna göre kadın katılımcıların, erkek katılımcılara göre temel psikolojik ihtiyaçları düzeyi daha yüksek bulunmuştur. Diğer değişkenler arasında anlamlı farklılıklara rastlanmamıştır

    Sports competition is one of most intense occasions where stress is felt quite intensely. Fierce competition environment, expectations, psychological pressure, will to win, and anxiety about backfire, will undermine sportive performance. The main aim of this research is to determine different strategies that various  muay thai sportsmen participating in sports competition among universities use in coping with stress.In order to measure the stress coping strategies of athletes, stress coping style scales adapted to Turkish by Şahin and Durak (1995) developed by Folkman and Lazarus (1984) were used. Cronbach Alpha internal consistency method was used to calculate the reliability coefficient of the test, Reliability Score of the scale. 0.875 respectively.Working Group consists of a total of 101 athletes including 46 women and 55 men participating in muay thai intervarsity competition.According to George and Mallery (2010), the data are considered as showing normal distributions when the values of skewness and lowness are between +2 and -2, and the evaluation is done accordingly (George and Mallery, 2010).Parametrik methods were applied to the data that show normal distribution. Independent sample t test was used to compare two independent variables. One-way variance analysis ANOVA was used to compare multiple independent variables. Post hoch-scheffe tests were applied to find out which variables have significant differences among more than two independent variables. In addition, the descriptive statistical values of the data are also included in the study. As a conclusion; strategies for managing stress by sportsmen were evaluated in terms of age, sexuality and duration of sports. If sexuality variable is considered, it is found that female sportsmen score higher than male participants regarding managing their stress. Significant differences were observed as a result of evaluation regarding active planning, external assistance search, escape abstraction (Bio-Chemical) and acceptance-cognitive (restructuring) sexuality variation while comparing these variables (p<0,05). Taking age and duration of sports into consideration, there is no significant difference in managing stress scores and sub-dimensions (p>0,05).Extended English abstract is in the end of PDF (TURKISH) file. ÖzetStresin en yoğun yaşanabileceği ortamlardan biriside spor müsabakaları olarak nitelendirilebilir. Yoğun rekabet ortamı, beklentiler, psikolojik baskılar, kazanma isteği ve bunların olumsuzluk ile sonuçlandırılma kaygısı sportif performansı son derece aşağılara çekecektir.İşte bu etkiyi incelebilmek için üniversiteler arası spor müsabakalarına katılan muay- thai sporcularının stres ile başa çıkmada kullandıkları farklı stratejileri tespit edebilmek çalışmanın amacını oluşturmaktadır.Sporcu öğrencilerin stres ile başa çıkma stratejilerinin ölçülmesi için; Folkman ve Lazarus’un geliştirdiği (1984)  Şahin ve Durak (1995) tarafından Türkçeye uyarlanan Stresle başa çıkma tarzları ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Ölçeğin güvenirlik katsayısının hesaplanması için Cronbach Alpha iç tutarlılık yöntemi kullanılmış, Ölçeğin Güvenilirlik puanı. 0,875 olarak bulunmuştur.Çalışma Grubu Üniversiteler arası muay thai müsabakalarına katılan 46 kadın ve 55 erkek toplam 101 sporcudan oluşmaktadır.George ve Mallery (2010)’a göre çarpıklık ve basıklık değerlerinin +2 ile -2 arasında bir değerin almasına göre verilerin normal dağılım gösterdikleri kabul edilmiş ve buna göre değerlendirme yapılmıştır (George ve Mallery, 2010). Normal Dağılım gösteren verilere parametrik olan yöntemler uygulanmıştır. İki bağımsız değişkenin karşılaştırılmasında bağımsız örneklem t testinden yararlanılmış, İkiden fazla bağımsız değişkenlerin karşılaştırılması için ise tek yönlü varyans analiz anova kullanılmıştır. İkiden fazla bağımsız değişkenlerin hangisinin arasında anlamlı farklılık olduğunu bilmek açısından post hoch- scheffe testleri kullanılmıştır. Ayrıca çalışmada verilere ait tanımlayıcı istatistik değerlerine de yer verilmiştir.Sonuç olarak; Muay Thai Sporcularının stres ile başa çıkma stratejileri yaş, cinsiyet ve spor yapma süresi açısından değerlendirilmiştir. Cinsiyet değişkeni değerlendirildiğinde;  kadın sporcuların stres ile başa çıkma stratejisi puan ortalaması erkek katılımcılara göre daha yüksek bulunmuştur. Değişkenlerin karşılaştırmasında ve ölçeğin alt boyutları olan; aktif planlama, dış yardım arama, kaçma soyutlama (Biyo-Kimyasal) ve kabul-bilişsel (Yeniden yapılanma) cinsiyet değişkeni açısından değerlendirilmesi sonucunda anlamlı farklılıklar görülmüştür (p<0,05).Yaş ve spor yapma süresi değişkenleri açısından  ise stres ile başa çıkma puan ortalamaları ve alt boyutlarında anlamlı farklılık görülmemiştir (p>0,05)

    Farklı Eğim Açılarındaki Fotovoltaik Panellerin Elektriksel Ölçümlerinin Raspberry Pi ile İzlenmesi

    Güneş enerjisinden elektrik enerjisi elde etmek için fotovoltaik (FV) paneller kullanılmaktadır. FV panellerden elde edilen enerji, panellerin kurulduğu coğrafi konuma, mevsimsel değişimlere ve çevre koşullarına göre sürekli olarak değişiklik göstermektedir. Dolayısıyla FV panellerden maksimum güç elde edilmesi amacıyla panellerin optimum eğim açısının aylık, mevsimsel ve yıllık olarak değiştirilmesi gerekir. Bu çalışmada, farklı açılarda yerleştirilen FV paneller ile Bilecik ilinde güneş enerjisinden elde edilecek maksimum gücün hangi eğim açılarında gerçekleştiğinin tespiti için verilerin toplanması, kayıt altına alınması ve analiz çalışmaları Raspberry Pi (RPi) üzerine kurulu web sunucu aracılığı ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda FV panellerin gerilimleri gün boyunca ölçülmektedir. Ölçülen veriler analog-dijital dönüştürücü (mikrodenetleyici) ile sayısal bilgiye çevrilmektedir. RPi ile sayısal bilgilerin her 10 dakikada bir ortalaması alınarak kendi hafıza ortamında saklama işlemi gerçekleştirilmektedir. Aynı zamanda RPi’ye kurulan Linux temelli Raspbian işletim sisteminde oluşturulan betik yardımıyla ve web ara yüzünden aynalama işlemi yapılarak verilerin bilgisayar ortamına kaydedilmesi ile yedekleme işlemi gerçekleştirilmektedir. Farklı eğim açılarındaki FV panellerden elde edilen elektriksel ölçümler RPi üzerine kurulu web sunucu aracılığıyla günün her saatinde canlı olarak izlenebilmektedir. Ayrıca elektriksel veriler aylık ve yıllık olarak tarih ve zaman bilgileri ile kayıt altına alınmaktadır.     Direct Active-Reactive Power Control of Three Phase PWM Rectifier

    In this study, simulation and experimental studies of direct power control for three phase pulse width modulation (PWM) rectifier circuit application are presented. The main advantage of PWM rectifier circuits over diode rectifier circuits is that the DC voltage and power factor are adjustable. Thus, the harmonic level of currents drawn from the grid can be kept within international standards. In this study, an algorithm was developed for direct power control of PWM rectifier using PI controller. In this way, the active power quality transferred to the load was increased by precisely adjusting the DC voltage on the load. In addition, reactive power support was provided according to the requirement of the grid. Thus, the performance of simulation and experimental studies conducted for the developed direct power transfer algorithm has been proved. Simulation studies were conducted using PSIM program, all control algorithms were written in block C and embedded code was produced by the program. A prototype was designed to transfer 1 kVA of power to verify the developed algorithms

    Exploring the topic selection tendencies of university students in L2 writing: Topic selection tendencies of university students

    The purpose of this study was to explore the topic selection tendencies of university students among a given topic list and to reveal what reasons students had in deciding on the topic to write about. The study was designed as a case study. 37 students studying at a state university in Konya Province, Turkey were determined as a study group. The findings obtained from the interviews were analyzed by content analysis method. The students were given six different essay topics each week, three of which were about their field while the rest was related to general writing topics. The obtained findings showed that some of the students preferred writing about general topics while some others preferred to write about a topic that was related to their field. Students stated that prior knowledge, difficulty of the topic, lack of sufficient knowledge on the topic were among the reasons affecting topic selection process. Students stated that writing about self-selected topics were effective in terms of improving English vocabulary knowledge, grammar knowledge, writing skill, developing English thinking skill, affective development, and field knowledge development

    An Evaluation of Athletes’ Opinions on Communication Barriers Caused by Coaches in the Interpersonal Communication Process

    Communication between athletes and coaches is essential in areas ranging from sporting performance to team cohesion, and a lack of proper communication between coach and athlete can cause many problems. This study aimed to assess the communication barriers caused by coaches as perceived by young adult athletes. Q methodology was used in the research design. The study group was recruited using the snowball sampling method, and a total of 27 athletes who met the criteria participated in the study. Principal component analysis was applied to analyze the data. It was concluded that the participants could be grouped under two factors, and a significance value of 0.50 was reached. In addition, communication barriers with athletes caused by coaches were analyzed in order of importance by giving Z-scores. As a result, the communication barriers arising from coaches were identified as discrimination, self-centeredness, bringing problems in their private life to work, having goals that conflict with the goals of athletes, inadequacies in knowledge transfer, and excessive expectations. This study reveals the adverse effects of communication barriers with coaches, especially early career athletes. It is also expected that the communication barriers identified will contribute to improved communication between coaches and athletes

    Background and Study Aim. The relationship between sport and religion is one of the most important research topics of  sport psychology recently. In the relevant literature, this relationship mostly focused on sports and Christianity. The present study examines the psychological well-being levels of athletes of the Islamic religion. This study aims to examine the relationship between the religious perception of university football players and their psychological well-being levels. Material and Methods. For this purpose, 288 university students attending different universities in Turkey, completed the Religious Orientation Scale and Psychological Well-Being Scale. Pearson correlation analysis was used to assess the correlation between variables. Path analysis was applied to test the hypotheses developed in the study. The hypotheses created were tested by the path analysis method using Amos software. Moderator regression analysis was performed. Statistical analysis was carried out using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) 23 program (SPSS Inc. Chicago. II. USA). P-value was set at p<0.05.   Results. According to the findings obtained from the study data, positive and significant relationships were determined between the religious perceptions of the university football players and their psychological well-being (p<0,01). Conclusions. In conclusion, it was concluded that the religious perception of the university football players was a significant predictor of their psychological well-being (p<0.01). It can be stated that in Turkish-Islamic culture, similar results to the relationship between Sports and Christianity have been achieved. Since religion is a universal phenomenon, it can be stated that the institution of religion has a special meaning for football players.Передумови та мета дослідження. Взаємозв’язок спорту та релігії останнім часом є однією з найважливіших тем дослідження психології спорту. У відповідній літературі ці стосунки здебільшого орієнтувалися на спорт і християнство. У цьому дослідженні досліджується рівень психологічного благополуччя спортсменів ісламської релігії. Це дослідження має на меті вивчити зв’язок між релігійним сприйняттям університетських футболістів та рівнем їх психологічного благополуччя.Матеріал і методи. Для цього 288 студентів університетів, які навчаються в різних університетах Туреччини, заповнили Шкалу релігійної орієнтації та Шкалу психологічного благополуччя. Для оцінки кореляції між змінними використовувався кореляційний аналіз Пірсона. Аналіз шляху був застосований для перевірки гіпотез, розроблених у дослідженні. Створені гіпотези були перевірені методом аналізу шляху за допомогою програмного забезпечення Amos. Проведено регресійний аналіз Модератора. Статистичний аналіз проводили за допомогою програми Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) 23 (SPSS Inc. Chicago. II. США). Р-значення було встановлено на рівні р<0,05. Результати. Згідно з даними дослідження, визначено позитивні та значущі зв’язки між релігійними уявленнями футболістів університету та їх психологічним самопочуттям (р<0,01).Висновки. На закінчення було зроблено висновок, що релігійне сприйняття футболістів університету є значущим провісником їх психологічного самопочуття (р<0,01). Можна констатувати, що в турецько-ісламській культурі були досягнуті результати, подібні до відносин між спортом і християнством. Оскільки релігія є універсальним явищем, можна констатувати, що для футболістів інститут релігії має особливе значення
