    Evaluation of mood disorder questionnaire positivity and associated factors in a population-based screening study

    The Mood Disorders Questionnaire (MDQ) is a 3-item scale that is frequently used in bipolar disorders (BD) screening and questions the symptoms of BD, its effect on functionality, and the coexistence of symptoms. The aim of this study is to evaluate the prevalence of positive screening of the MDQ among general population and to investigate the associated risk factors. In this cross-sectional study, the sample was randomly selected from household data to represent the city population. A total of 432 participants were asked to fill in MDQ, CAGE (cutting down, annoyance by criticism, guilty feeling, and eye-openers) questionnaire, which consists of four clinical interview questions proven to aid in the diagnosis of alcoholism, and clinical and sociodemographic data form. The Cronbach’s alpha value of our current study was 0.813 for MDQ. The prevalence of MDQ positivity was found 7.6%. The estimated prevalence rate of bipolar disorders varied between 0.3 and 13.4% according to different cut-off values. Multivariate logistic regression models showed that the presence of possible alcohol addiction, shift work history, and body mass index (BMI) were statistically significant predictors of MDQ positivity. The prevalence of MDQ positivity found is similar to studies in literature. Keeping in mind that psychometric properties of the MDQ, positive screen results should be cautiously interpreted due to the presence of other risk factors and comorbidities

    Mobbing among employees in Bursa, Turkey: A cross-sectional survey study

    Aim: To assess the frequency of reported mobbing and the association of mobbing with employees' sociodemographic variables and working environment factors in a sample of employees in city of Bursa, Turkey. Method: We conducted a questionnaire survey using a validated self-reported questionnaire. This survey involved 192 employees in three companies, operating in different economic sectors located in the city of Bursa, Turkey. Two questionnaires were administered to the workers. Firstly, a sernistructured questionnaire evaluated the employees' sociodemographic variables and working status. Secondly, the Negative Acts Question naire-Revised (NAQ-R) which is a standardized questionnaire evaluated mobbing and covered five major categories of mobbing behavior. Results: On the basis of the given definition of the workplace bullying, the overwhelming majority (88.7 %) of the employees participating in the research labeled themselves as victims of bullying at the workplace in the last 6 months. The most frequent types of mobbing behavior were intimidating behaviors such as finger-pointing, invasion of personal space, shoving, blocking/barring the way (84.5 %) and being the subject of excessive teasing and sarcasm (80.3 %). Reports of bullying did not vary by job status, educational status, marital status, occupational status, gender or age. Conclusion: This study showed that around 88 % of the population studied had been exposed to mobbing behavior within the last 6 months. This study also found that some economic activities would be at elevated risk for mobbing. We suggest that it is important to prevent the development of mobbing behaviors in the workplace in order to prevent the development of psychological problems that may lead to negative individual and organizational outcome

    The limbic brain appears to be the source of basic emotions and urges. In contrast the neocortex gives humans the ability to think in abstract and symbolic terms and to use language. Emotions by neural projections from the limbic system to neocortex influence all aspect of cognition, from perception to rational decision making. Although the cases whose intellectual and motor abilities appeared fully functional, decision making ability and emotional processing impaired together after a damage to the ventromedial prefrontal lobes suggest that the emotions had priority in the brain processing. The effectiveness of the psychotherapy is thought to be related to the left prefrontal cortex activity. The rational decisions are changing easily under the stressful moments and experiencing the same problems over and over again. This concept may explain why the couples under the stressful conditions may easily fall into radicalism, and decide that they are right but the others wrong. The specific kinds of conflict behaviors between couples like the criticism, contempt, defensiveness and stonewalling are correlated with the physical signs of the amygdala activation. For this reason, before the people to engage new forms of thought and behavior must notice and change the emotional processes. In the light of these concepts in addition the cognitive and behavioral approach, it would not be wrong to think that the therapy working with the emotional techniques will be more successful

    Olanzapine associated peripheral edema: a case report

The atypical antipsychotic olanzapine is rarely related with peripheral edema. However relationship of olanzapine and edema remains as a hypothesis. In this case report a peripheral edema developing shortly after initiation of treatment in a patient with schizophrenia is reported and theoretical explanations of this phenomenon are discussed

Atipik bir antipsikotik olan olanzapin nadir olarak periferik ödeme neden olur. Olanzapine bağlı ödemin oluş nedenleri hakkındaki açıklamalar varsayım düzeyinde devam etmektedir.     Assessment of psychometric characteristics of the Coronavirus Anxiety Scale in patients with preexisting psychiatric disorders

    This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric characteristics of the Turkish version of the CAS in a Turkish psychiatric outpatient setting. A total of 198 patients with a preexisting psychiatric disorder completed the CAS scale. The scale's validity and reliability were evaluated using convergent and concurrent validity, internal consistency, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, and ROC analysis. The Turkish version of CAS might help physicians assess the COVID-19 associated anxiety in patients with psychiatric comorbidities.WOS:0006119643000012-s2.0-85099863524PubMed: 3349465
