Confirming the LHC Higgs Discovery with WW

    Get PDF
We investigate the prospects of observing a neutral Higgs boson decaying into a pair of WW bosons (one real and the other virtual), followed by the WW decays into qqνqq' \ell\nu or jjνjj\ell\nu at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Assuming that the missing transverse energy comes solely from the neutrino in WW decay, we can reconstruct the WW masses and then the Higgs mass. At the LHC with a center of mass energy (s\sqrt{s}) of 8 TeV and an integrated luminosity (LL) of 25 fb1^{-1}, we can potentially establish a 6σ6\sigma signal. A 5σ5\sigma discovery of HWWjjνH \to WW^* \to jj\ell\nu for s=14\sqrt{s} = 14 TeV can be achieved with L=L = 6 fb1^{-1}. The discovery of HWWH \to WW implies that the recently discovered new boson is a CP-even scalar if its spin is zero. In addition, this channel will provide a good opportunity to study the HWWHWW coupling

    Mergers at z = 1

Multiband images of nearby interacting pairs of galaxies, mergers, and normal field galaxies are used to simulate images of high redshift mergers by identifying distinctive morphological features. Preliminary results indicate that it is feasible for the HST to detect these high redshift objects

Lepton Asymmetries in Heavy Baryon Decays of ΛbΛl+l\Lambda_b\to\Lambda l^+l^-

    Get PDF
We study the dilepton forward-backward and the longitudinal, normal and transverse lepton polarization asymmetries in the heavy baryon decays of ΛbΛl+l\Lambda_b\to\Lambda l^+l^-. We show that the asymmetries have a less dependence on the non-perturbative QCD effects. In the standard model, we find that the integrated forward-backward asymmetries (FBAs) and three components of the polarizations in the QCD sum rule approach (pole model) are $-0.13\ (-0.12)and and (58.3,-9.4,-0.07)%( ((58.3,-12.6,-0.07)%)for) for \Lambda_b\to\Lambda\mu^+\mu^-and and -0.04 (-0.03)and and (10.9,-10.0,-0.39)%( ((10.9,-0.2,-0.34)%)for) for \Lambda_b\to\Lambda\tau^+\tau^-$, respectively.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures, revised versio

The economic sustainability of second crops implementation in organic maize production

    Get PDF
Although organic crop production has numerous advantages, concerns about economic sustainability, both environmental and financial, make farmers reluctant to convert their conventional production into the organic production. Certain agricultural methods, such as second crop use, can alleviate some problems regarding soil tilth, erosion prevention, nutrients availability and weed control, thus contributing toward more sustainable crop production. Also, the added value crop growth, such as maize (Zea mais L.) hybrid's parental line production, with lower yields but higher prices, can contribute to sustainability of organic production. In order to test the hypothesis that the use of second crops can contribute toward the sustainability of organically grown maize after soybean (Glycine max L.) as a previous crop in the crop rotation, the experimental site was established in Valpovo, Croatia, in the eutric brown soil type, during the years 2005 and 2006. The experimental design was set up as a CRBD in four repetitions, with six second crop treatments: CT – Control, without second crop; WW – winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) second crop; RY – rye (Secale cereale L.) second crop; FP – fodder pea (Pisum arvense L.) second crop; WP – mixture of WW and FP; and RP – mixture of RY and FP. In order to assess the soil surface protection and evaluate the weed suppression, the second crop coverage had been recorded. Regarding the economic sustainability, the second crop use depending costs were analysed in relation to the extra produced maize yield. The RY treatment had the highest profitability, followed by WW, RP and O. The WP and FP revealed lower relative profitability than O, thus presenting the evidence of sustainability risk of these treatments

On the Baryon, Lepton-Flavour and Right-Handed Electron Asymmetries of the Universe

Non-perturbative electroweak effects, in thermal equilibrium in the early universe, have the potential to erase the baryon asymmetry of the universe, unless it is encoded in a B-L asymmetry, or in some "accidentally" conserved quantity. We first consider the possibility that the BAU may be regenerated from lepton flavour asymmetries even when initially BL=0B-L = 0. We show that provided some, but {\it not} all the lepton flavours are violated by ΔL0{\Delta}L{\neq}0 interactions in equilibrium, the BAU may be regenerated without lepton mass effects. We next examine the possibility of encoding the baryon asymmetry in a primordial asymmetry for the right-handed electron, which due to its weak Yukawa interaction only comes into chemical equilibrium as the sphalerons are falling out of equilibrium. This would also raise the possibility of preserving an initial baryon asymmetry when BL=0B-L = 0.Comment: LATEX File with 12 pages, one figure (not included); published in Phys. Lett B297 (1992) p11

No. 82 Tahun 200 kelas I. 0,001 mg/L kelas II. 0,002 mg/L kelas III. 0,002 mg/L kelas IV 0,005 mg/L
