Shape complexity and fractality of fracture surfaces of swelled isotactic polypropylene with supercritical carbon dioxide

We have investigated the fractal characteristics and shape complexity of the fracture surfaces of swelled isotactic polypropylene Y1600 in supercritical carbon dioxide fluid through the consideration of the statistics of the islands in binary SEM images. The distributions of area AA, perimeter LL, and shape complexity CC follow power laws p(A)A(μA+1)p(A)\sim A^{-(\mu_A+1)}, p(L)L(μL+1)p(L)\sim L^{-(\mu_L+1)}, and p(C)C(ν+1)p(C)\sim C^{-(\nu+1)}, with the scaling ranges spanning over two decades. The perimeter and shape complexity scale respectively as LAD/2L\sim A^{D/2} and CAqC\sim A^q in two scaling regions delimited by A103A\approx 10^3. The fractal dimension and shape complexity increase when the temperature decreases. In addition, the relationships among different power-law scaling exponents μA\mu_A, μB\mu_B, ν\nu, DD, and qq have been derived analytically, assuming that AA, LL, and CC follow power-law distributions.Comment: RevTex, 6 pages including 7 eps figure

Multifractal analysis of the fracture surfaces of foamed polypropylene/polyethylene blends

The two-dimensional multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis is applied to reveal the multifractal properties of the fracture surfaces of foamed polypropylene/polyethylene blends at different temperatures. Nice power-law scaling relationship between the detrended fluctuation function FqF_{q} and the scale ss is observed for different orders qq and the scaling exponent h(q)h(q) is found to be a nonlinear function of qq, confirming the presence of multifractality in the fracture surfaces. The multifractal spectra f(α)f(\alpha) are obtained numerically through Legendre transform. The shape of the multifractal spectrum of singularities can be well captured by the width of spectrum Δα\Delta\alpha and the difference of dimension Δf\Delta f. With the increase of the PE content, the fracture surface becomes more irregular and complex, as is manifested by the facts that Δα\Delta\alpha increases and Δf\Delta f decreases from positive to negative. A qualitative interpretation is provided based on the foaming process.Comment: 8 page

A set of miRNAs that involve in the pathways of drug resistance and leukemic stem-cell differentiation is associated with the risk of relapse and glucocorticoid response in childhood ALL

Relapse is a major challenge in the successful treatment of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Despite intensive research efforts, the mechanisms of ALL relapse are still not fully understood. An understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying treatment outcome, therapy response and the biology of relapse is required. In this study, we carried out a genome-wide microRNA (miRNA) microarray analysis to determine the miRNA expression profiles and relapse-associated miRNA patterns in a panel of matched diagnosis–relapse or diagnosis–complete remission (CR) childhood ALL samples. A set of miRNAs differentially expressed either in relapsed patients or at diagnosis compared with CR was further validated by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction in an independent sample set. Analysis of the predicted functions of target genes based on gene ontology ‘biological process’ categories revealed that the abnormally expressed miRNAs are associated with oncogenesis, classical multidrug resistance pathways and leukemic stem cell self-renewal and differentiation pathways. Several targets of the miRNAs associated with ALL relapse were experimentally validated, including FOXO3, BMI1 and E2F1. We further investigated the association of these dysregulated miRNAs with clinical outcome and confirmed significant associations for miR-708, miR-223 and miR-27a with individual relapse-free survival. Notably, miR-708 was also found to be associated with the in vivo glucocorticoid therapy response and with disease risk stratification. These miRNAs and their targets might be used to optimize anti-leukemic therapy, and serve as novel targets for development of new countermeasures of leukemia. This fundamental study may also contribute to establish the mechanisms of relapse in other cancers

A simulation study on the measurement of D0-D0bar mixing parameter y at BES-III

We established a method on measuring the \dzdzb mixing parameter yy for BESIII experiment at the BEPCII e+ee^+e^- collider. In this method, the doubly tagged ψ(3770)D0D0\psi(3770) \to D^0 \overline{D^0} events, with one DD decays to CP-eigenstates and the other DD decays semileptonically, are used to reconstruct the signals. Since this analysis requires good e/πe/\pi separation, a likelihood approach, which combines the dE/dxdE/dx, time of flight and the electromagnetic shower detectors information, is used for particle identification. We estimate the sensitivity of the measurement of yy to be 0.007 based on a 20fb120fb^{-1} fully simulated MC sample.Comment: 6 pages, 7 figure

Global publication trends and research trends of necroptosis application in tumor: A bibliometric analysis

Introduction: Necroptosis is an alternative, caspase-independent programmed cell death that appears when apoptosis is inhibited. A gowing number of studies have reflected the link between necroptosis and tumors. However, only some systematical bibliometric analyses were focused on this field. In this study, we aimed to identify and visualize the cooperation between countries, institutions, authors, and journals through a bibliometric analysis to help understand the hotspot trends and emerging topics regarding necroptosis and cancer research. Methods: The articles and reviews on necroptosis and cancer were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection on 16 September 2022. Countries, institutions, authors, references, and keywords in this field were visually analyzed by CtieSpace 5.8.R3, VOSviewer 1.6.18, and R package “bibliometrix.”Results: From 2006 to 2022, 2,216 qualified original articles and reviews on necroptosis in tumors were published in 685 academic journals by 13,009 authors in 789 institutions from 75 countries/regions. Publications focusing on necroptosis and cancer have increased violently in the past 16 years, while the citation number peaked around 2008–2011. Most publications were from China, while the United States maintained the dominant position as a “knowledge bridge” in necroptosis and cancer research; meanwhile, Ghent University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences were the most productive institutions. Moreover, only a tiny portion of the articles were multiple-country publications. Peter Vandenabeele had the most significant publications, while Alexei Degterev was most often co-cited. Peter Vandenabeele also gets the highest h-index and g-index in this research field. Cell Death and Disease was the journal with the most publications on necroptosis and cancer, which was confirmed to be the top core source by Bradford’s Law. At the same time, Cell was the leading co-cited journal, and the focus area of these papers was molecular, biology, and immunology. High-frequency keywords mainly contained those that are molecularly related (MLKL, NF-kB, TNF, RIPK3, RIPK1), pathological process related (necroptosis, apoptosis, cell-death, necrosis, autophagy), and mechanism related (activation, expression, mechanisms, and inhibition). Conclusion: This study comprehensively overviews necroptosis and cancer research using bibliometric and visual methods. Research related to necroptosis and cancer is flourishing. Cooperation and communication between countries and institutions must be further strengthened. The information in our paper would provide valuable references for scholars focusing on necroptosis and cancer

Reversible Nanoparticle–Micelle Transformation of Ionic Liquid–Sulfonatocalix[6]arene Aggregates

The effect of temperature and NaCl concentration variations on the self-assembly of 1-methyl-3- tetradecylimidazolium (C14mim+) and 4-sulfonatocalix[6]- arene (SCX6) was studied by dynamic light scattering and isothermal calorimetric methods at pH 7. Inclusion complex formation promoted the self-assembly to spherical nanoparticles (NP), which transformed to supramolecular micelles (SM) in the presence of NaCl. Highly reversible, temperature-responsive behavior was observed, and the conditions of the NP−SM transition could be tuned by the alteration of C14mim+:SCX6 mixing ratio and NaCl concentration. The association to SM was always exothermic with enthalpy independent of the amount of NaCl. In contrast, NPs were produced in endothermic process at low temperature, and the enthalpy change became less favorable upon increase in NaCl concentration. The NP formation was accompanied by negative molar heat capacity change, which further diminished when NaCl concentration was raised

New measurement of θ13\theta_{13} via neutron capture on hydrogen at Daya Bay

This article reports an improved independent measurement of neutrino mixing angle θ13\theta_{13} at the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment. Electron antineutrinos were identified by inverse β\beta-decays with the emitted neutron captured by hydrogen, yielding a data-set with principally distinct uncertainties from that with neutrons captured by gadolinium. With the final two of eight antineutrino detectors installed, this study used 621 days of data including the previously reported 217-day data set with six detectors. The dominant statistical uncertainty was reduced by 49%. Intensive studies of the cosmogenic muon-induced 9^9Li and fast neutron backgrounds and the neutron-capture energy selection efficiency, resulted in a reduction of the systematic uncertainty by 26%. The deficit in the detected number of antineutrinos at the far detectors relative to the expected number based on the near detectors yielded sin22θ13=0.071±0.011\sin^22\theta_{13} = 0.071 \pm 0.011 in the three-neutrino-oscillation framework. The combination of this result with the gadolinium-capture result is also reported.Comment: 26 pages, 23 figure
