Magnetoplasma reflection beam isolators for submillimeter wave use are discussed. The basic configuration used is that of the Kerr transverse magneto-optical effect. Theoretical and experimental data at 337 microns using InSb as a plasma are given

Hollow-cylinder waveguide isolators for use at millimeter wavelengths

    Get PDF
A semiconductor waveguide isolator consisting of a hollow column of a semiconductor mounted coaxially is considered in a circular waveguide in a longitudinal dc magnetic field. An elementary and physical analysis based on the excitation of plane waves in the guide and a more rigorous mode matching analysis are presented. These theoretical predictions are compared with experimental results for an InSb isolator at 94GHz and 75 K

    KCNE1 and KCNE2 provide a checkpoint governing voltage-gated potassium channel α-subunit composition

AbstractVoltage-gated potassium (Kv) currents generated by N-type α-subunit homotetramers inactivate rapidly because an N-terminal ball domain blocks the channel pore after activation. Hence, the inactivation rate of heterotetrameric channels comprising both N-type and non-N-type (delayed rectifier) α-subunits depends upon the number of N-type α-subunits in the complex. As Kv channel inactivation and inactivation recovery rates regulate cellular excitability, the composition and expression of these heterotetrameric complexes are expected to be tightly regulated. In a companion article, we showed that the single transmembrane segment ancillary (β) subunits KCNE1 and KCNE2 suppress currents generated by homomeric Kv1.4, Kv3.3, and Kv3.4 channels, by trapping them early in the secretory pathway. Here, we show that this trapping is prevented by coassembly of the N-type α-subunits with intra-subfamily delayed rectifier α-subunits. Extra-subfamily delayed rectifier α-subunits, regardless of their capacity to interact with KCNE1 and KCNE2, cannot rescue Kv1.4 or Kv3.4 surface expression unless engineered to interact with them using N-terminal A and B domain swapping. The KCNE1/2-enforced checkpoint ensures N-type α-subunits only reach the cell surface as part of intra-subfamily mixed-α complexes, thereby governing channel composition, inactivation rate, and—by extension—cellular excitability

    Rank/select queries over mutable bitmaps

    Get PDF
The problem of answering rank/select queries over a bitmap is of utmost importance for many succinct data structures. When the bitmap does not change, many solutions exist in the theoretical and practical side. In this work we consider the case where one is allowed to modify the bitmap via a flip(i) operation that toggles its ith bit. By adapting and properly extending some results concerning prefix-sum data structures, we present a practical solution to the problem, tailored for modern CPU instruction sets. Compared to the state-of-the-art, our solution improves runtime with no space degradation. Moreover, it does not incur in a significant runtime penalty when compared to the fastest immutable indexes, while providing even lower space overhead. (C) 2021 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved

Diversité des espèces cultivées et contraintes à la production en agriculture maraîchère au Togo

    Get PDF

High Field magnetospectroscopy to probe the 1.4eV Ni color center in diamond

A magneto-optical study of the 1.4 eV Ni color center in boron-free synthetic diamond, grown at high pressure and high temperature, has been performed in magnetic fields up to 56 T. The data is interpreted using the effective spin Hamiltonian of Nazar\'e, Nevers and Davies [Phys. Rev. B 43, 14196 (1991)] for interstitial Ni+^{+} with the electronic configuration 3d93d^{9} and effective spin S=1/2S=1/2. Our results unequivocally demonstrate the trigonal symmetry of the defect which preferentially aligns along the [111] growth direction on the (111) face, but reveal the shortcomings of the crystal field model for this particular defect.Comment: 12 pages, 13 figures, submitted to PR
