    Get PDF
This report presents the findings of a mission to critically review the institutional, policy and regulatory framework for sustainable development of the Egyptian aquaculture sector. The study was undertaken by an International Expert on Aquaculture Policy, and a National Expert on Institutions, on behalf of the Project “Improving Employment and Income through the Development of Egypt’s Aquaculture Sector“, implemented by WorldFish and CARE, and funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation(SDC). The objective of the mission was to assess the current status of the Egyptian aquaculture sector, in terms of the policy, legal and institutional environment, with a view to suggesting the major issues to be addressed within a future policy dialogue

Directed Explicit Model Checking with HSF-SPIN

    Get PDF
We present the explicit state model checker HSF-SPIN which is based on the model checker SPIN and its Promela modeling language. HSF-SPIN incorporates directed search algorithms for checking safety and a large class of LTL-specified liveness properties. We start off from the A* algorithm and define heuristics to accelerate the search into the direction of a specified failure situation. Next we propose an improved nested depth-first search algorithm that exploits the structure of Promela Never-Claims. As a result of both improvements, counterexamples will be shorter and the explored part of the state space will be smaller than with classical approaches, allowing to analyze larger state spaces. We evaluate the impact of the new heuristics and algorithms on a set of protocol models, some of which are real-world industrial protocols

Computational investigations of folded self-avoiding walks related to protein folding

Various subsets of self-avoiding walks naturally appear when investigating existing methods designed to predict the 3D conformation of a protein of interest. Two such subsets, namely the folded and the unfoldable self-avoiding walks, are studied computationally in this article. We show that these two sets are equal and correspond to the whole nn-step self-avoiding walks for n⩜14n\leqslant 14, but that they are different for numerous n⩟108n \geqslant 108, which are common protein lengths. Concrete counterexamples are provided and the computational methods used to discover them are completely detailed. A tool for studying these subsets of walks related to both pivot moves and proteins conformations is finally presented.Comment: Not yet submitte

Numerical Modeling of Anti-icing Systems and Comparison to Test Results on a NACA 0012 Airfoil

    Get PDF
A series of experimental tests were conducted in the NASA Lewis IRT on an electro-thermally heated NACA 0012 airfoil. Quantitative comparisons between the experimental results and those predicted by a computer simulation code were made to assess the validity of a recently developed anti-icing model. An infrared camera was utilized to scan the instantaneous temperature contours of the skin surface. Despite some experimental difficulties, good agreement between the numerical predictions and the experiment results were generally obtained for the surface temperature and the possibility for each runback to freeze. Some recommendations were given for an efficient operation of a thermal anti-icing system

A massive ovarian mucinous cystadenoma: a case report

Abstract Objectives To report the occurrence of a rare case of a huge benign ovarian tumour (mucinous cystadenoma) in Jazan city, Saudi Arabia. Patients Our reported case was a middle-aged Saudi woman presented with marked abdominal distension and discomfort at the gynaecology clinic of Jazan General Hospital, Jazan city, Saudi Arabia. Methods The data were collected by history-taking, clinical examination, laboratory investigations, transabdominal ultrasonographic examination, and by histo-pathological study of the excised surgical specimen. Results The case was reported as a rare massive ovarian mucinous cystadenoma. Conclusions This case report emphasizes the significance of thorough evaluation of all women presented with vague abdominal pains. Although the condition is extremely rare, it is a potentially dangerous in its massive form if not timely diagnosed and managed properly. With the increasing awareness of such conditions, more and more cases could be detected and reported early.</p

Utilization of Cactus Dear Peels Mucilage as an Edible Coating of Chicken Meat to Prolong its Shelf Life

Edible coating or biodegradable packaging has been introduced in food processing to control food quality loss. This study was carried out to enhance the utilization of cactus peels to produce edible coating for chicken breast to prolong its shelf life. The effect of incorporating mango kernels as a natural and economic source of antioxidants and antimicrobial agent in the coating has been studied as well. Cactus peels coated- based samples produced the optimum decrease in pH, TBA, total viable bacterial count and enhanced the sensory attributes compared to untreated or mango kernels treated meat in dose dependent manner. Sample treated with 25% cactus peels and 0.8% mango kernel showed the lowest value of TBA of 0.421 mg malonaldehyde/Kg compared to 1.30 mg malonaldehyde/Kg in control after two weeks of storage. The same treatment was the most effective in reducing total viable bacterial count from 51×103 cfu.g-1 in control to 2.00×102 cfu.g-1. This study suggests that cactus peels and mango seeds, which considered as food processing waste showed a potential role in delaying chicken meat spoilage.
