    Get PDF
This study aims to investigate the properties of green concrete made with ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS), Robo sand (RS), and coconut shell (CS). GGBS is the mineral admixture used to replace cement. Nano-silica particles (NSPs) and CS are used as coarse aggregates, and RS is the fine aggregate used to replace river sand. The workability, mechanical properties, and durability properties of green concrete are investigated and compared with those of conventional concrete (CC). Test results show that the cement replaced with 30% GGBS and 3% NSPs exhibits superior strength. The compressive and splitting tensile strengths are increased by 24.03% and 42.32% after 28 days of curing, respectively. The workability is improved by 12.22% (slump) and 13.25% (compaction factor) after 28 days of curing. The sorptivity of HM3 (3.26%) is lower than that of CC due to the uniform distribution between particles. Microstructure evolution is carried out to identify concrete mix behavior

Data extraction and data management is playing a vital role in today’s world. Databases are widely used by all the organizations. Analysis of data is very crucial when comparisons are done between different subjects. There are many software’s developed for statistical analysis of data. Various visualization techniques are used for representation. In statistical analysis of tabular data in databases, data is either extracted as external sheets or the statistical software’s are connected to the servers to test data. In our approach, we introduce a web based interface where users can select any number of attributes and view the results with some simple visualizations. SQL queries are written for different methodologies to analyze data. Formulas and structure of all the queries are visualized and represented for the users to understand the query processing and the test methodologies. All the statistical tests are performed on multi tabular data. Ranking is performed on categorical data to replace these values with ranks. With the selected attributes, views are created in the database with the ranks replacing the categorical values in these views. The developed interface is tested with different users to evaluate the visualizations used and the understandability of the statistical tests.Computer Scienc

An experimental evaluation of the crack propaga tion and post-cracking response of macro fiber reinforced concrete in flexure is c onducted. Two types of structur al fibers, hooked end steel fibers and continuousl y embossed macro-synthetic fibers are used in this study. A fiber blend of the two fibers is evaluated for spec ific improvements in the post peak residual load carrying response. At 0.5% volume fraction, both steel and macrosynthetic fiber reinforced concrete exhibits load recovery at large crack opening. The blend of 0.2% macrosynthetic fibers and 0.3% steel fibers shows a significa nt improvement in the immediate post peak load response with a significantly smaller load drop and a constant residual load carrying capacity equal to 80% of the peak load. An analytical formulation to predict fle xure load-displacement behaviour considering a multi-linear stress- crack separation (σ -w) relationship is developed. An inverse analysis is developed for obtaining the multi- linear σ -w relation, from the experimental response. The -w curves of the steel and macrosynthetic fiber reinforced concrete exhibit a stress recovery after a significant drop with increa sing crack opening. Significant residual load carrying capacity is attained only at large crack separation. The fiber blend exhibits a constant residual stress with increasing crack sepa ration following an initial decrease. The constant residual stress is attained at a small crack separation

    DESIGNING A PVC FOR DC-COMPONENT

The electricity component is really a special issue in transformer less grid-connected solar (PV) inverter systems and could cause problems regarding system operation and safety. IEEE standard has defined the limit for electricity component within the grid-side ac power. The electricity component can cause line-frequency power ripple, electricity-link current ripple, along with a further second-order harmonic within the ac current. This paper has suggested a highly effective means to fix minimize the electricity component in three-phase ac power and created a software-based approach to imitate the obstructing capacitors employed for the electricity component minimization, the so-known as virtual capacitor. The suggested method continues to be validated on a ten-kVA experimental prototype, in which the electricity current has been effectively attenuated to become within .5% from the ranked current. The entire harmonic distortion and also the second-order harmonic have been reduced along with the electricity-link current ripple. The “virtual capacitor” is accomplished with the addition of an important from the electricity component in the present feedback path. A technique for accurate extraction ofthe electricity component according to no time at all integral, like a answer to achieve the control, continues to be devised and approved effective even under grid-frequency variation and harmonic conditions. A proportional integral-resonant controller is further made to regulate the dc and line-frequency component in the present loop to supply precise control from the electricity current

Fruits are vital portion of healthy diet owed to rich source of vitamins, minerals, and dietary fibers, which are highly favorable in keeping individual fit. Unfortunately, these days, one-third of fruits were infested with fungi and their toxic metabolites called mycotoxins, which is most annoying and pose significant health risk. Therefore, there is a need to suggest appropriate mitigation strategies to overcome the mycotoxins contamination in fruits. In the present study, detoxification efficiency of irradiation on zearalenone (ZEA) mycotoxin was investigated in distilled water and fruit juices (orange, pineapple, and tomato) applying statistical program response surface methodology (RSM). The independent factors were distinct doses of irradiation and ZEA, and response factor was a percentage of ZEA reduction in content. A central composite design (CCD) consists of 13 experiments were planned applying software program Design expert with distinct doses of irradiation (up to 10 kGy) and ZEA (1–5 μg). The results revealed that independent factors had a positive significant effect on the response factor. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) was followed to fit a proper statistical model and suggested that quadratic model was appropriate. The optimized model concluded that doses of irradiation and ZEA were the determinant factors for detoxification of ZEA in fruit juices. Further, toxicological safety of irradiation mediated detoxified ZEA was assessed in the cell line model by determining the cell viability (MTT and live/dead cell assays), intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS), mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), nuclear damage, and caspase-3 activity. The higher level of live cells and MMP, lower extent of intracellular ROS molecules and caspase-3, and intact nuclear material were noticed in cells treated with irradiation mediated detoxified ZEA related to non-detoxified ZEA. The results confirmed that toxicity of ZEA was decreased with irradiation treatment and detoxification of ZEA by irradiation is safe. The study concluded that irradiation could be a potential post-harvest food processing technique for detoxification of ZEA mycotoxin in fruit juices. However, irradiation of fruit juices with high dose of 10 kGy has minimally altered the quality of fruit juices

Loss of RhoB Expression Enhances the Myelodysplastic Phenotype of Mammalian Diaphanous-Related Formin mDia1 Knockout Mice

Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is characterized by ineffective hematopoiesis and hyperplastic bone marrow. Complete loss or interstitial deletions of the long arm of chromosome 5 occur frequently in MDS. One candidate tumor suppressor on 5q is the mammalian Diaphanous (mDia)-related formin mDia1, encoded by DIAPH1 (5q31.3). mDia-family formins act as effectors for Rho-family small GTP-binding proteins including RhoB, which has also been shown to possess tumor suppressor activity. Mice lacking the Drf1 gene that encodes mDia1 develop age-dependent myelodysplastic features. We crossed mDia1 and RhoB knockout mice to test whether the additional loss of RhoB expression would compound the myelodysplastic phenotype. Drf1−/−RhoB−/− mice are fertile and develop normally. Relative to age-matched Drf1−/−RhoB+/− mice, the age of myelodysplasia onset was earlier in Drf1−/−RhoB−/− animals—including abnormally shaped erythrocytes, splenomegaly, and extramedullary hematopoiesis. In addition, we observed a statistically significant increase in the number of activated monocytes/macrophages in both the spleen and bone marrow of Drf1−/−RhoB−/− mice relative to Drf1−/−RhoB+/− mice. These data suggest a role for RhoB-regulated mDia1 in the regulation of hematopoietic progenitor cells

Insurgency versus Democracy: The Violent Clash of Ideas between the Maoists and the Indian State

    No full text
The end objective of the Maoist insurgency is to overthrow the parliamentary and representative democratic system of the Indian state to herald a ‘new democratic order.’ To the Maoists, Indian democracy is reactionary and oppressive and an instrument of exploitation. A violent movement that the Maoists have been waging against the Indian state can also be seen as a clash of ideas on the forms of democracy that the Indian state and the Maoists believe. Around this clash of ideas on democracy, this chapter investigates how an insurgency with an alternative idea of democracy violently clashes with an established democratic Indian state. In investigating the violent clash of ideas, this paper also addresses the common and divergent issues between the Maoists and the Indian state. The issues of culture of violence, impunity in democracy, and the paradox of counter-violence are discussed in the chapter
