Illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing is recognised as one of the largest threats to the sustainability of the world’s fisheries. The fight against IUU fishing activities has recently become a high priority in the international fisheries management agenda. While a number of academic contributions have sought to improve the understanding of the problem, data are still limited, especially in developing countries. In the absence of any information in this regard in Egypt, this contribution is the first attempt to report the available information about cases of Egyptian fishing vessels detained for fishing illegally in neighbouring countries, including the Mediterranean and Red Seas. The highest number of cases was observed in 2015 (7 cases) followed by 2010, 2013, 2016 and 2020 (each with 5 cases). The highest number of detained vessels by far was observed in 2020 (44 vessels) followed by 2015 (19 vessels). Tunisia was the country with the highest number of cases (17 cases) followed by Libya (10 cases), while Somalia detained the highest number of vessels (42 vessels) followed by Libya (22 vessels). The results shed light on the problems that led to this situation, starting with depleted fisheries, a poor monitoring system and a difficult economic situation in the fishing sector

Evaluation of E Layer Dominated Ionosphere Events Using COSMIC/FORMOSAT-3 and CHAMP Ionospheric Radio Occultation Data

At certain geographic locations, especially in the polar regions, the ionization of the ionospheric E layer can dominate over that of the F2 layer. The associated electron density profiles show their ionization maximum at E layer heights between 80 and 150 km above the Earth’s surface. This phenomenon is called the “E layer dominated ionosphere” (ELDI). In this paper we systematically investigate the characteristics of ELDI occurrences at high latitudes, focusing on their spatial and temporal variations. In our study, we use ionospheric GPS radio occultation data obtained from the COSMIC/FORMOSAT-3 (Constellation Observing System for Meteorology, Ionosphere, and Climate/Formosa Satellite Mission 3) and CHAMP (Challenging Minisatellite Payload) satellite missions. The entire dataset comprises the long period from 2001 to 2018, covering the previous and present solar cycles. This allows us to study the variation of the ELDI in different ways. In addition to the geospatial distribution, we also examine the temporal variation of ELDI events, focusing on the diurnal, the seasonal, and the solar cycle dependent variation. Furthermore, we investigate the spatiotemporal dependency of the ELDI on geomagnetic storms

Abdominal Cocoon A Case Report with Short Review of Literature

    Get PDF
Abdominal cocoon is a rare entity where there is encapsulation of the small bowel by a fibrous membrane causing clustering of the bowel. The exact aetiology is unclear. We report a case of a 15 year old girl with a history of recurrent colicky abdominal pain in the right lower abdomen. Clinical diagnosis was recurrent appendicitis. She underwent laparotomy for appendicular lump. Histopathological examination of the resected lump grossly and histologically revealed the features of abdominal cocoon. Key Words: Abdominal Cocoon; Sclerosing encapsulating peritonitis; Small bowel. DOI: 10.3329/bsmmuj.v2i2.4763 BSMMU J 2009; 2(2): 81-8

La pertinence informationnelle des données comptables : Une exploration théorique et méthodologique

    Get PDF

With the increasing population of aging and disabled individuals, the need for a more effective and efficient solutions is at peak, Powered Exoskeletons are wearable robots that can be attached to the disabled limb with the goal of adding power to, or rectifying the limb functionality , one of its application is rehabilitation. This study review relevant research, technologies and products, while critically analyzing them and addressing some of the current problem faced by the researchers in this field, such as the use EMG signal as a primary input to the controller. This research propose an adaptive EMG-based upper limb exoskeleton that is built on a fuzzy controller. The paper strives to propose a wearable general-user Exoskeleton, Built around an interactive gaming interface to engage the patients in the rehabilitation process. The games and exoskeleton assistance degree can be preset – on medical supervision – to different training patterns. Ultimately, the project strives to afford normal daily life for those who needs it

The Potential Amoebicidal Effect of Some Milk forms as an Inhibitor for Entamoeba histolytica Viability Isolated from Diarrhea

Milk includes numerous compounds such as lacto-peroxidase, lactoferrin, immunoglobulin G, secretory immunoglobulin A, and Lysozymes The invasive trophozoites of E. histolytica are capable to inhabit host tissues and provoke diseases such as intestinal colitis. The objective of the study was to compare different forms of milk’s effect on E. histolytica trophopzoite by measuring protein concentration in vitro using a spectrophotometer and number of trophozoite by microscopy. For this purpose, E. histolytica trophozoites were exposed to several types of milk (human, sheep, cattle, goats, and formula) at concentrations of 6, 12, 18, and 24% for each type after 8, 16, and 24 hours of incubation. According to the findings, sheep and goat milk had lower total protein concentrations after 8 hours than other types of milk when compared to the control group. After 16 hours of incubation, raise the milk concentration to 24%   leading to a reduction in the formula milk\u27s total protein concentration to 5g/l. after 8 and 16 hours of incubation, sheep milk and cattle have significantly lower total protein concentrations (24% vs. 8%), respectively. The action of formula and human milk is increased by 24-hour incubation. Increase the trophozoite inhibition percentage compared to metronidazole in human milk, which was followed by sheep and cattle milk with respective values of 60.9%, 56.1%, and 46.3% respectively. Human milk, goat and formula milk had the greatest inhibitory activity after incubation 24hrs. at 24%.the extent of amoebicidal activity of milk was shown to depend on incubation period and concentration of milk

A Strategy for Automatic Quality Signing and Verification Processes for Hardware and Software Testing

    Get PDF
We propose a novel strategy to optimize the test suite required for testing both hardware and software in a production line. Here, the strategy is based on two processes: Quality Signing Process and Quality Verification Process, respectively. Unlike earlier work, the proposed strategy is based on integration of black box and white box techniques in order to derive an optimum test suite during the Quality Signing Process. In this case, the generated optimal test suite significantly improves the Quality Verification Process. Considering both processes, the novelty of the proposed strategy is the fact that the optimization and reduction of test suite is performed by selecting only mutant killing test cases from cumulating t-way test cases. As such, the proposed strategy can potentially enhance the quality of product with minimal cost in terms of overall resource usage and time execution. As a case study, this paper describes the step-by-step application of the strategy for testing a 4-bit Magnitude Comparator Integrated Circuits in a production line. Comparatively, our result demonstrates that the proposed strategy outperforms the traditional block partitioning strategy with the mutant score of 100% to 90%, respectively, with the same number of test cases

Étude Lithostratigraphique Des Formations Superficielles Urbaines Du Secteur Nord De La Ville De Fès, Maroc

The superficial formations of the northern sector of the city of Fez majorly show clay lithostratigraphy in the west of this sector. They are conglomeratic at the center and are composed of limestone deposits in the East. As for the land embankments, they met at two banks of Oued Fès. From a geotechnical point of view, the formations which are exposed to the phenomena of compressing or liquefaction are the argillaceous and anthropic formations. These phenomena of the instability of the grounds can worsen when the water table level increases significantly, especially during the rainy seasons where it can reach the surface at the Oued Fez flood plain. As for the conglomeratic formations, the geotechnical analysis shows that the conglomerates forming a very hard rocky slab constitute a rather solid base and is indeformable. Their thickness, therefore, exceeds 2m of power. This is the case of conglomerates located at the center of this sector. Laboratory tests have classified these soils to be relatively stable
