Malawi Teachers\u27 Knowledge of and Attitudes Towards Standardized Tests

Standardized tests play a great role in education. In Malawi, results of these tests are used to make: critical decisions about individuals, hence the need for students to be well prepared. Students\u27 performance can be influenced by their teachers\u27 attitude toward and knowledge of standardized tests. This survey was designed to establish Malawian teachers· knowledge of standardized tests and their attitude towards these tests. While the teachers displayed positive attitudes, it was found that they would benefit from more knowledge about standardized tests

Information Retrieval Performance in Text Generation using Knowledge from Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT-3)

The rise of advanced language models like GPT-3 and text generation has witnessed remarkable progress. However, leveraging the vast amount of knowledge within these models to enhance information retrieval performance remains an area that needs to be explored. This research used Artificial Intelligence, specifically the OpenAI GPT-3 language model, to create an application to help make written content. This research investigates the impact of incorporating GPT-3's knowledge into text generation processes and evaluates its influence on information retrieval tasks. Several features in text generation generate text that requires exact information, such as specifications for a product and accurate descriptions of a job or product, which are included in the concept of information retrieval in text creation by language models. The research used the few-shot learning method in the GPT-3 language model. The generated responses are then evaluated using established information retrieval metrics such as precision, recall, and F1-score. The findings of this research reveal the effectiveness of utilizing GPT-3's knowledge in enhancing information retrieval performance. The generated responses demonstrate improved relevance to user queries, resulting in the same performance precision and recall scores compared to other paid text generator websites. Application results are testing in capabilities of retrieving some information. Application capabilities tested on other commercial text generator engines. The test results obtained BERTscore 86\% (precision), 88\% (recall), and 87\% (F1-Score).

Design of text generator application with OpenAI GPT-3

The increasing need for text content creation today challenges the development of systems that can alleviate the need for text creation. Currently, text generation is done manually and has various shortcomings, especially in terms of time constraints, human error, limited creativity, and writing that tends to be repetitive by certain people, which can cause a decrease in quality and diversity in the sentences produced. This research was conducted by designing an AI-based text generator application using the GPT-3 language model to generate text automatically and help overcome some obstacles. Applying this app will increase efficiency and productivity, increase the writer's ideas and creativity, automate routine tasks, and produce exciting and communicative sentences. The app's ability to generate text quickly and accurately and be personalized makes it valuable in various fields. The method used in this research is implementing the GPT-3 language model APIs into the text generator application created so that the application can connect with the GPT-3 engine that has been modified in its prompting method. The output of this application is a text that has been adjusted to the user's needs through keywords entered on the web interface system. The result is that the text generator application is good enough to be implemented in various fields, especially text content generation.

Touching the Earth: A Black Buddhist Perspective on Connecting with and Healing Ourselves and our Ancestors

Ancestors inform so many aspects of our experience. We are our ancestors. In the Plum Village Vietnamese Zen Buddhist tradition, we speak of three kinds of ancestors: familial, spiritual, and land ancestors. I reflect on my own connection to my familial ancestors as a Black bi-racial descendant, and explore the Plum Village practice of Touching the Earth, which supports us in healing the intergenerational trauma passed on to us by all of our many kinds of ancestors as well as strengthening and celebrating the intergenerational resilience and excellence that our various ancestors have gifted us with. I share and explain the specific text of Touching the Earth to our African American Land Ancestors as it appears in the longer practice of honoring all the many groups of land ancestors in the US. This is a practice readers are encouraged to adapt and continue in their own personal, ceremonial way. When we connect with our ancestors we connect with ourselves and our descendents more deeply and authentically. We understand more clearly who we are, what strengths we have been given and what our purpose is here so we are better able to withstand the challenges of living in the midst of white supremacy and chronic racialized violence. When we touch the love of our ancestors, we grow our hearts and the seeds of compassion and wisdom in us grow stronger and more robust

Limitations in application of transportation planning methods in tropical Africa: a case study of rural travel in Kirinyaga district, Kenya

The paper discusses transportation research and planning in developing countries with emphasis on tropical Africa. It is suggested that research into transport modes used in rural areas should receive the proper attention and encouragement from the international lending institutions (IBRD, IDA etc), as well as the individual governments in order to plan for better transport programmes in the rural areas. Therefore, it is proposed to conduct a case study of transport modes in Kirinyaga district with special emphasis on the potential and use of intermediate technology modes. The outcome of the proposed field survey will help in the design of a rural transport programme that is within the means of the inhabitants, that compared with the level of technological development of the country and that is adaptable to the cultural regimen
