Techniques for Wide-Angle Distortion Correction Using an Ellipsoidal Projection

    Get PDF
This publication describes techniques of using an ellipsoidal projection for correcting image distortion caused by wide-angle cameras. Two-dimensional (2D) cartesian pixel coordinates of an image taken with a wide-angle camera are first back-projected to three-dimensional (3D) spherical pixel coordinates (e.g., onto a surface of a 3D sphere) using a focal length of the camera. The 3D spherical pixel coordinates are then projected to 3D ellipsoidal pixel coordinates (e.g., onto a surface of a 3D ellipsoid). Major and minor axes of the 3D ellipsoidal pixel coordinates are defined according to a determined face orientation within the image. The 3D ellipsoidal pixel coordinates are then projected to 2D cartesian pixel coordinates to arrive at a distortion-corrected 2D image

Experience of COVID-19 vaccination among primary healthcare workers in Hong Kong : a qualitative study

Studies show that coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine hesitancy exists among healthcare workers (HCWs). Past personal experiences of vaccination, such as the seasonal influenza vaccination, influence individuals’ intention to receive future vaccinations. This study aimed to explore the experience of COVID-19 vaccination among primary care HCWs in Hong Kong. A qualitative study using semi-structured interviews was conducted. Twenty-eight HCWs (ten doctors, ten nurses, and eight supporting staff) working in nine government-funded primary care clinics in Hong Kong who had completed at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccination were interviewed. Four themes were generated, namely, the cognitive and emotional battle of vaccine hesitancy, catalysts for vaccine acceptance, blasting vaccination myths, and being a positive influence. Providing timely, adequate, and transparent vaccine information and addressing the specific concerns of HCWs about the COVID-19 vaccine could enhance their vaccination uptake in future. Specific vaccine promotion strategies, such as the sharing of vaccination experiences targeted at different subgroups of HCWs, may improve vaccine acceptance through informational social influence

Influence on Learning Efficiency from natural light in Educational Environment

This paper presents preliminary research outcomes from applying EEG Mind Wave Mapping methodology for investigating the impacts of learning environment on students' concentration and learning performance under different lighting conditions. During the learning process, whether students remain attentive generally influences their learning efficacy. Literature shows that classroom lighting may be important for pupils' academic performance. However, most of the time, lighting could not be adequately controlled due to the given building envelope design and the spatial layout. The present study explores the influence of different lighting conditions in a conditioned room on architectural students' mind wave when they were engaging in a learning task. Lighting scenarios included naturally lit, artificially lit and hybrid mode set in this room were experimented and the test scores of the learning tasks under these scenarios were compared against mind wave mapping results . The preliminary findings from this study showed that students’ performance in a natural daylit and hybrid lit room shows higher concentration than that in the artificially lit room, as a result, the use of natural light in the learning environment is more desirable and this can have significant benefit for reducing energy demands from artificial lighting in educational spaces

Universal Phase Unwrapping for Phase Measuring Profilometry Using Geometry Analysis

    Get PDF
Traditionally temporal phase unwrapping for phase measuring profilometry needs to employ the phase computed from unit-frequency patterned images; however, it has recently been reported that two phases with co-prime frequencies can be absolutely unwrapped each other. However, a manually man-made look-up table for two known frequencies has to be used for correctly unwrapping phases. If two co-prime frequencies are changed, the look-up table has to be manually rebuilt. In this paper, a universal phase unwrapping algorithm is proposed to unwrap phase flexibly and automatically. The basis of the proposed algorithm is converting a signal-processing problem into a geometric analysis one. First, we normalize two wrapped phases such that they are of the same needed slope. Second, by using the modular operation, we unify the integer-valued difference of the two normalized phases over each wrapping interval. Third, by analyzing the properties of the uniform difference mathematically, we can automatically build a look-up table to record the corresponding correct orders for all wrapping intervals. Even if the frequencies are changed, the look-up table will be automatically updated for the latest involved frequencies. Finally, with the order information stored in the look-up table, the wrapped phases can be correctly unwrapped. Both simulations and experimental results verify the correctness of the proposed algorithm

Automatic Look-Up Table Based Real-Time Phase Unwrapping for Phase Measuring Profilometry and Optimal Reference Frequency Selection

    Get PDF
For temporal phase unwrapping in phase measuring profilometry, it has recently been reported that two phases with co-prime frequencies can be absolutely unwrapped using a look-up table; however, frequency selection and table construction has been performed manually without optimization. In this paper, a universal phase unwrapping method is proposed to unwrap phase flexibly and automatically by using geometric analysis, and thus we can programmatically build a one-dimensional or two-dimensional look-up table for arbitrary two co-prime frequencies to correctly unwrap phases in real time. Moreover, a phase error model related to the defocus effect is derived to figure out an optimal reference frequency co-prime to the principal frequency. Experimental results verify the correctness and computational efficiency of the proposed method
