Evidence for cross-protection but not type-replacement over the 11 years after human papillomavirus vaccine introduction
Examination of cross-protection and type replacement after human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine introduction is essential to guide vaccination recommendations and policies. The aims of this study were to examine trends in non-vaccine-type HPV: 1) genetically related to vaccine types (to assess for cross-protection) and 2) genetically unrelated to vaccine types (to assess for type replacement), among young women 13-26 years of age during the 11 years after HPV vaccine introduction. Participants were recruited from a hospital-based teen health center and a community health department for four cross-sectional surveillance studies between 2006 and 2017. Participants completed a survey that assessed sociodemographic characteristics and behaviors, and cervicovaginal swabs were collected and tested for 36 HPV genotypes. We determined changes in proportions of non-vaccine-type HPV prevalence and conducted logistic regression to determine the odds of infection across the surveillance studies, propensity-score adjusted to control for selection bias. Analyses were stratified by vaccination status. Among vaccinated women who received only the 4-valent vaccine (n = 1,540), the adjusted prevalence of HPV types genetically related to HPV16 decreased significantly by 45.8% (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 0.48, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.31-0.74) from 2006-2017, demonstrating evidence of cross-protection. The adjusted prevalence of HPV types genetically related to HPV18 did not change significantly (14.2% decrease, AOR = 0.83, 95% CI = 0.56-1.21). The adjusted prevalence of HPV types genetically unrelated to vaccine types did not change significantly (4.2% increase, AOR = 1.09, CI = 0.80-1.48), demonstrating no evidence of type replacement. Further studies are needed to monitor for cross-protection and possible type replacement after introduction of the 9-valent HPV vaccine
Magnetic Properties of J-J-J' Quantum Heisenberg Chains with Spin S=1/2, 1, 3/2 and 2 in a Magnetic Field
By means of the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method, the
magnetic properties of the J-J-J quantum Heisenberg chains with spin
, 1, 3/2 and 2 in the ground states are investigated in the presence of
a magnetic field. Two different cases are considered: (a) when is
antiferromagnetic and is ferromagnetic (i.e. the AF-AF-F chain),
the system is a ferrimagnet. The plateaus of the magnetization are observed. It
is found that the width of the plateaus decreases with increasing the
ferromagnetic coupling, and disappears when passes over a
critical value. The saturated field is observed to be independent of the
ferromagnetic coupling; (b) when is ferromagnetic and is
antiferromagnetic (i.e. the F-F-AF chain), the system becomes an
antiferromagnet. The plateaus of the magnetization are also seen. The width of
the plateaus decreases with decreasing the antiferromagnetic coupling, and
disappears when passes over a critical value. Though the ground
state properties are quite different, the magnetization plateaus in both cases
tend to disappear when the ferromagnetic coupling becomes more dominant.
Besides, no fundamental difference between the systems with spin half-integer

How Protostellar Outflows Help Massive Stars Form
We consider the effects of an outflow on radiation escaping from the
infalling envelope around a massive protostar. Using numerical radiative
transfer calculations, we show that outflows with properties comparable to
those observed around massive stars lead to significant anisotropy in the
stellar radiation field, which greatly reduces the radiation pressure
experienced by gas in the infalling envelope. This means that radiation
pressure is a much less significant barrier to massive star formation than has

Phase diagram of a frustrated mixed-spin ladder with diagonal exchange bonds
Using exact numerical diagonalization and the conformal field theory
approach, we study the effect of magnetic frustrations due to diagonal exchange
bonds in a system of two coupled mixed-spin Heisenberg chains. It
is established that relatively moderate frustrations are able to destroy the
ferrimagnetic state and to stabilize the critical spin-liquid phase typical for
half-integer-spin antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chains. Both phases are
separated by a narrow but finite region occupied by a critical

A DMRG Study of Low-Energy Excitations and Low-Temperature Properties of Alternating Spin Systems
We use the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method to study the
ground and low-lying excited states of three kinds of uniform and dimerized
alternating spin chains. The DMRG procedure is also employed to obtain
low-temperature thermodynamic properties of these systems. We consider a 2N
site system with spins and alternating from site to site and
interacting via a Heisenberg antiferromagnetic exchange. The three systems
studied correspond to being equal to and
; all of them have very similar properties. The ground state is found
to be ferrimagnetic with total spin . We find that there is
a gapless excitation to a state with spin , and a gapped excitation to
a state with spin . Surprisingly, the correlation length in the ground
state is found to be very small for this gapless system. The DMRG analysis
shows that the chain is susceptible to a conditional spin-Peierls instability.
Furthermore, our studies of the magnetization, magnetic susceptibility
and specific heat show strong magnetic-field dependences. The product
shows a minimum as a function of temperature T at low magnetic fields; the
minimum vanishes at high magnetic fields. This low-field behavior is in
agreement with earlier experimental observations. The specific heat shows a
maximum as a function of temperature, and the height of the maximum increases
sharply at high magnetic fields. Although all the three systems show
qualitatively similar behavior, there are some notable quantitative differences
between the systems in which the site spin difference, , is large

Chaotic motion of space charge wavefronts in semiconductors under time-independent voltage bias
A standard drift-diffusion model of space charge wave propagation in
semiconductors has been studied numerically and analytically under dc voltage
bias. For sufficiently long samples, appropriate contact resistivity and
applied voltage - such that the sample is biased in a regime of negative
differential resistance - we find chaos in the propagation of nonlinear fronts
(charge monopoles of alternating sign) of electric field. The chaos is always
low-dimensional, but has a complex spatial structure; this behavior can be
interpreted using a finite dimensional asymptotic model in which the front
(charge monopole) positions and the electrical current are the only dynamical

Supernova Remnant in a Stratified Medium: Explicit, Analytical Approximations for Adiabatic Expansion and Radiative Cooling
We propose simple, explicit, analytical approximations for the kinematics of
an adiabatic blast wave propagating in an exponentially stratified ambient
medium, and for the onset of radiative cooling, which ends the adiabatic era.
Our method, based on the Kompaneets implicit solution and the Kahn
approximation for the radiative cooling coefficient, gives straightforward
estimates for the size, expansion velocity, and progression of cooling times
over the surface, when applied to supernova remnants (SNRs). The remnant shape
is remarkably close to spherical for moderate density gradients, but even a
small gradient in ambient density causes the cooling time to vary substantially
over the remnant's surface, so that for a considerable period there will be a
cold dense expanding shell covering only a part of the remnant. Our
approximation provides an effective tool for identifying the approximate
parameters when planning 2-dimensional numerical models of SNRs, the example of

Epidemiology of Any and Vaccine-Type Anogenital Human Papillomavirus Among 13-26-Year-Old Young Men After HPV Vaccine Introduction
PURPOSE:
The aims of this study were to determine prevalence of and factors associated with any human papillomavirus (HPV) and vaccine-type HPV among young men after vaccine introduction, stratified by vaccination status.
METHODS:
Young men were recruited from clinical sites from 2013 to 2015, completed a survey, and were tested for 36 anogenital HPV types. We determined factors associated with ≥1 HPV type among all participants, and vaccine-type HPV (HPV6, 11, 16, and/or 18) among all, vaccinated and unvaccinated participants, using multivariable regression.
RESULTS:
Mean age was 21.5 years and 26% had received at least one HPV vaccine dose. HPV prevalence was lower in vaccinated versus unvaccinated young men (50.5% vs. 62.6%, p = .03). HPV positivity was discordant by anogenital site. At both sites, 59.4% were positive for ≥1 HPV type and 26.0% for ≥1 4-valent vaccine type. In multivariable logistic regression, factors associated with ≥1 HPV type among all participants were frequency of oral sex (odds ratio [OR] = 1.80, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.00-3.24), recent smoking (OR = 1.84, CI = 1.17-2.90), and sexually transmitted infection history (OR = 1.56, CI = 1.02-2.38). Factors associated with vaccine-type HPV among all participants were white versus black race (OR = 1.91, CI = 1.10-3.34) and gonorrhea history (OR = 2.52, CI = 1.45-4.38); among vaccinated participants were private versus Medicaid insurance (OR = 5.6, CI = 1.46-20.4) and private versus no insurance (OR = 15.9, CI = 3.06-83.3); and among unvaccinated participants was gonorrhea history (OR = 1.83, CI = 1.03-3.24).
CONCLUSIONS:
Anogenital HPV prevalence was high and vaccination rates low among young men 2-4 years after vaccine introduction, underscoring the urgency of increasing vaccination rates and vaccinating according to national guidelines
