Highlights from the STAR experiment at RHIC

Experiments using heavy ion collisions at ultrarelativistic energies aim to explore the QCD phase transition and map out the QCD phase diagram. A wealth of remarkable results in this field have been reported recently, for example the Upsilon suppression discovered recently. We discuss recent results from the STAR experiment focusing on strangeness, charm and beauty production.Comment: Presented at the International Conference on Strangeness in Quark Matter, 18-24 September 2011, Krakow, Polan

Review of the experimental evidence on pentaquarks and critical discussion

We review and discuss the experimental evidence on predicted baryonic states made by 4 quarks and one antiquark, called pentaquarks. Theoretical and experimental advances in the last few years led to the observation of pentaquark candidates by some experiments, however with relatively low individual significance. Other experiments did not observed those candidates. Furthermore, the masses of the θ+\theta^+(1540) candidates exhibit a large variation in different measurements. We discuss to which extend these contradicting informations may lead to a consistent picture.Comment: Contribution to the International Conference on 'Quark Confinement and the Hadron Spectrum VI 2004', Tanka Village, 21-25 Sept. 2004, Sardegna, Ital

Exotic particle searches with STAR at RHIC

We present preliminary results of the STAR experiment at RHIC on exotic particle searches in minimum bias Au+Au collisions at sNN\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200 GeV. We observe a narrow peak at 1734 ±\pm 0.5 ±\pm 5 MeV in the ΛKs0\Lambda K^0_s invariant mass with width consistent with the experimental resolution of about 6 MeV within the errors. The statistical significance can be quantified between 3 and 6 σ\sigma depending on cuts and methods. If this peak corresponds to a real particle state it would be a candidate for the N0N^0 or the Ξ0\Xi^0 I=1/2 pentaquark states.Comment: To appear in the proceedings of the 20th Winter Workshop on Nuclear Dynamics, 15-20 March 2004, Jamaic

Holographic description of the QCD phase diagram and out of equilibrium dynamics

    No full text
Holography provides a powerful tool to model QCD and other strongly coupled gauge dynamics. As examples of its power to compute in novel environments I review some recent results: these include models of the phase structure of QCD at finite temperature and chemical potential; and computation of time dependent processes at strongly coupled phase transitions

Recently, with the constant improvement of social material living standards, the demand for security and on-site alarm system grows rapidly and the requirements are getting higher, it improves the popularity and rapid development of video monitoring system. Nowadays, video monitoring system on the market often uses image acquisition card to acquire image, and it relies on computer system’s high-sp...学位:工学硕士院系专业:信息科学与技术学院通信工程系_信号与信息处理学号:2332006115262

Pre-Big Bang, fundamental Physics and noncyclic cosmologies

Contribution à la conférence ICFP 2012, International Conference on New Frontiers in Physics, Kolymbari, Crete 10-16 juin 2012International audienceDetailed analyses of WMAP and Planck data can have significant implications for noncyclic pre-Big Bang approaches incorporating a new fundamental scale beyond the Planck scale and, potentially, new ultimate constituents of matter with unconventional basic properties as compared to standard particles. Cosmic-ray experiments at the highest energies can also yield relevant information. Hopefully, future studies will be able to deal with alternatives: i) to standard physics for the structure of the physical vacuum, the nature of space-time, the validity of quantum field theory and conventional symmetries, the interpretation of string-like theories...; ii) to standard cosmology concerning the origin and evolution of our Universe, unconventional solutions to the cosmological constant problem, the validity of inflationary scenarios, the need for dark matter and dark energy... Lorentz-like symmetries for the properties of matter can then be naturally stable space-time configurations resulting from more general primordial scenarios that incorporate physics beyond the Planck scale and describe the formation and evolution of the physical vacuum. A possible answer to the question of the origin of half-integer spins can be provided by a primordial spinorial space-time with two complex coordinates instead of the conventional four real ones, leading to a really new cosmology. We discuss basic questions and phenomenological topics concerning noncyclic pre-Big Bang cosmologies and potentially related physics. Pentaquarks: review of the experimental evidence

Pentaquarks, namely baryons made by 4 quarks and one antiquark have been predicted and searched for since several decades without success. Theoretical and experimental advances in the last 2 years led to the observation of a number of pentaquark candidates. We review the experimental evidence for pentaquarks as well as their non-observations by some experiments, and discuss to which extend these sometimes contradicting informations may lead to a consistent picture.Comment: Contribution to the International Conference on 'Strangeness in Quark Matter', 15-21 Sept. 2004, Cape Tawn, South Afric
