    Machine learning is successful in many applications including securing a network from unseen attack. The application of learning algorithm for detecting anomaly in a Network has been fundamental since few years. With increasing use of machine learning techniques it has become important to study to what extent it is good to be dependent on them. Altogether a different discipline called ‘Adversarial Learning’ have come up as a separate dimension of study. The work in this paper is to test the robustness of online machine learning based IDS to carefully crafted packets by attacker called poison packets. The objective is to observe how a remote attacker can deviate the normal behavior of machine learning based classifier in the IDS by injecting the network with carefully crafted packets externally, that may seem normal by the classification algorithm and the instance made part of its future training set. This behavior eventually can lead to a poison learning by the classification algorithm in the long run, resulting in misclassification of true attack instances. This work explores one such approach with SOM and SVM as the online learning based classification algorithms

    Multi-wavelength fiber laser with erbium doped zirconia fiber and semiconductor optical amplifier

    Multi-wavelength hybrid fiber lasers are demonstrated in both ring and linear cavities using a fabricated Erbium-doped Zirconia fiber (EDZF) and semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) as gain media. In both configurations, the a fiber loop mirror, which is constructed using a 3 m long polarization maintaining fiber (PMF) and a polarization insensitive 3dB coupler is used as a comb filter for the fiber laser. In the ring cavity, 10 simultaneous lines with peak power above -26 dBm is obtained at 1550 nm region. This is an improvement compared to the linear cavity configuration which has only 5 simultaneous lines observed from wavelength 1556.1 nm to 1563.0 nm with the peak power above -40 dBm. Both hybrid lasers has a constant line spacing of 1.7 nm, which is suitable for wavelength division multiplexing and sensing applications and shows a stable operation at room temperature

    Anjaw district is situated at the extreme foothill of eastern himalaya of Arunachal Pradesh, distinctive in its nature by having a rich diversity of wild edible plants rich in nutrition as well as medicinal properties. Ethnically, the Digaru Mishmi tribe (inhabitants) of the district adopted the traditional way of consuming these rich ethnobotanical resources to fulfill their daily nutrition & health care. These plants have traditionally occupied an important position in their socio-cultural, spiritual and health aspects of the rural tribal lives. So, the consumption of wild edible plants as a food source has been an integral part of the indigenous people’s culture. To get an insight into the Digaru Mishmi people’s way of lifestyle, the present study was conducted to explore, identify & document the ethno botany of the Digaru Mishmi people and to record their unique knowledge about wild edible plants. Around 57 species were found & all the plants used by the tribe are tabulated inalphabetical order along with botanical name, vernacular name (Digaru Mishmi), family, parts used, food value and ethnomedicinal uses. Wild edible plants form a good source of protein, fat, vitamins, sugar and minerals requirement of the tribal people to a greater extent.     Effect of possible rotor deformation on the probability of face contact for a liquid film bearing

    The possibility of face contact is examined for a coaxial rotor-stator bearing in dynamic motion constrained by a highly rotating very thin liquid film. A modified Reynolds equation for pressurised flow is coupled to the bearing structure leading to determination of the bearing gap from solving a nonlinear second-order non-autonomous ordinary differential equation. Periodic solutions are found via a mapping solver. Rotor deformation is parametrised by a coning angle and considered a random variable. The method of derived distributions is used to quantify variation in coning angle and examine the probability of rotor-stator contact. Additionally, effects of possible destabilising random aspects on the axial rotor oscillations are investigated. Exact solutions for probability of contact are obtained for various bearing configurations

    Karyopherin enrichment and compensation fortifies the nuclear pore complex against nucleocytoplasmic leakage

    Nuclear pore complexes (NPCs) discriminate nonspecific macromolecules from importin and exportin receptors, collectively termed "karyopherins" (Kaps), that mediate nucleocytoplasmic transport. This selective barrier function is attributed to the behavior of intrinsically disordered phenylalanine-glycine nucleoporins (FG Nups) that guard the NPC channel. However, NPCs in vivo are typically enriched with different Kaps, and how they impact the NPC barrier remains unknown. Here, we show that two major Kaps, importinβ1/karyopherinβ1 (Kapβ1) and exportin 1/chromosomal maintenance 1 (CRM1), are required to fortify NPC barrier function in vivo. Their enrichment at the NPC is sustained by promiscuous binding interactions with the FG Nups, which enable CRM1 to compensate for the loss of Kapβ1 as a means to maintain NPC barrier function. However, such a compensatory mechanism is constrained by the cellular abundances and different binding kinetics for each respective Kap, as evidenced for importin-5. Consequently, we find that NPC malfunction and nucleocytoplasmic leakage result from poor Kap enrichment

    Unsteady MHD free convective flow past a vertical porous plate immersed in a porous medium with Hall current, thermal diffusion and heat source

    Abstract An attempt has been made to study the unsteady MHD free convective flow past a vertical porous plate immersed in a porous medium with Hall current, thermal diffusion and heat source. Analytical solution has been found depending on the physical parameters including the Hartmann number M, the Prandtl number Pr, the Grashof number for heat transfer Gr , the Grashof number for mass transfer Gc , the Schmidt number Sc , the Hall parameter m, the Soret number 0 S , heat source S , frequency parameter Ω . The influence of these parameters on velocity, temperature, species concentration, and shearing stress at the plate are demonstrated graphically and the results obtained are discussed. It is found that the concentration at the plate-surface increases under Soret effect. Further, it is observed that the Soret effect causes the main-flow shear stress to rise and the crossflow shear stress to fall. It is also found that a decrease in the Soret effect leads to an increase in both the main flow and crossflow velocities. 2000 Mathematics subject classification: 76 W 0
