Thin-disk laser pump schemes for large number of passes and moderate pump source quality

Novel thin-disk laser pump layouts are proposed yielding an increased number of passes for a given pump module size and pump source quality. These novel layouts result from a general scheme which bases on merging two simpler pump optics arrangements. Some peculiar examples can be realized by adapting standard commercially available pump optics simply by intro ducing an additional mirror-pair. More pump passes yield better efficiency, opening the way for usage of active materials with low absorption. In a standard multi-pass pump design, scaling of the number of beam passes brings ab out an increase of the overall size of the optical arrangement or an increase of the pump source quality requirements. Such increases are minimized in our scheme, making them eligible for industrial applicationsComment: 16 pages, 9 figure

Hadronic Contributions to the Muon Anomaly in the Constituent Chiral Quark Model

    Get PDF
The hadronic contributions to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon which are relevant for the confrontation between theory and experiment at the present level of accuracy, are evaluated within the same framework: the constituent chiral quark model. This includes the contributions from the dominant hadronic vacuum polarization as well as from the next--to--leading order hadronic vacuum polarization, the contributions from the hadronic light-by-light scattering, and the contributions from the electroweak hadronic ZγγZ\gamma\gamma vertex. They are all evaluated as a function of only one free parameter: the constituent quark mass. We also comment on the comparison between our results and other phenomenological evaluations.Comment: Several misprints corrected and a clarifying sentence added. Contributions of order O(mquark2){\cal O}(m_{\rm quark}^2) to K3K_{\ell 3} form factors and unitarity of the CKM matrix

The form factors for the K3K_{\ell 3} semileptonic decay are computed to order O(p4)O(p^4) in generalized chiral perturbation theory. The main difference with the standard O(p4)O(p^4) expressions consists in contributions quadratic in quark masses, which are described by a single divergence-free low-energy constant, A3A_3. A new simultaneous analysis is presented for the CKM matrix element VusV_{us}, the ratio FK/FπF_K/F_{\pi}, K3K_{\ell 3} decay rates and the scalar form factor slope λ0\lambda_0. This framework easily accommodates the precise value for VudV_{ud} deduced from superallowed nuclear β\beta-decays

First operation and performance of a 200 lt double phase LAr LEM-TPC with a 40x76 cm^2 readout

In this paper we describe the design, construction, and operation of a first large area double-phase liquid argon Large Electron Multiplier Time Projection Chamber (LAr LEM-TPC). The detector has a maximum drift length of 60 cm and the readout consists of a 40×7640\times 76 cm2^2 LEM and 2D projective anode to multiply and collect drifting charges. Scintillation light is detected by means of cryogenic PMTs positioned below the cathode. To record both charge and light signals, we have developed a compact acquisition system, which is scalable up to ton-scale detectors with thousands of charge readout channels. The acquisition system, as well as the design and the performance of custom-made charge sensitive preamplifiers, are described. The complete experimental setup has been operated for a first time during a period of four weeks at CERN in the cryostat of the ArDM experiment, which was equipped with liquid and gas argon purification systems. The detector, exposed to cosmic rays, recorded events with a single-channel signal-to-noise ratio in excess of 30 for minimum ionising particles. Cosmic muon tracks and their δ\delta-rays were used to assess the performance of the detector, and to estimate the liquid argon purity and the gain at different amplification fields.Comment: 23 pages, 21 figure

Searching for New Physics in Leptonic Decays of Bottomonium

    Get PDF
New Physics can show up in various well-known processes already studied in the Standard Model, in particular by modifying decay rates to some extent. In this work, I examine leptonic decays of Υ\Upsilon vector resonances of bottomonium below BBˉB\bar{B} production, subsequent to a magnetic dipole radiative structural transition of the vector resonance yielding a pseudoscalar continuum state, searching for the existence of a light Higgs-like neutral boson that would imply a slight but experimentally measurable breaking of lepton universality.Comment: LaTeX, 12 pages, 1 EPS figur

Contribution of higher meson resonances to the electromagnetic π\pi-meson mass difference

    Get PDF
Modifications of the DGMLY relation for calculation of electromagnetic π\pi-meson mass difference based on the Chiral Symmetry Restoration phenomenon at high energies as well as the Operator Product Expansion of quark densities for vector (ρ\rho) and axial-vector (a1a_1) meson fields difference are proposed. In the calculations higher meson resonances in vector and axial-vector channels are taken into account. It is shown that the inclusion of the first ρ\rho and a1a_1 radial excitations improves the results for electromagnetic π\pi-meson mass difference as compared with the previous ones. Estimations on the electromagnetic ρ\rho and a1a_1-meson decay constants and the constant L10L_{10} of effective chiral Lagrangian are obtained from the generalized Weinberg sum rules.Comment: Latex2e, 10 pages, submitted to Yad. Hadronic light-by-light scattering contribution to the muon g-2: an effective field theory approach

    Get PDF
The hadronic light-by-light contribution to a_{mu}, the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, is discussed from the point of view of an effective low-energy theory. As an application, the coefficient of the leading logarithm arising from the two-loop graphs involving two anomalous vertices is computed, and found to be positive. This corresponds to a positive sign for the pion-pole contribution to the hadronic light-by-light correction to a_{mu}, and to a sizeable reduction of the discrepancy between the present experimental value of a_{mu} and its theoretical counterpart in the standard model.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure. v2: published versio

CP-odd Phase Correlations and Electric Dipole Moments

We revisit the constraints imposed by electric dipole moments (EDMs) of nucleons and heavy atoms on new CP-violating sources within supersymmetric theories. We point out that certain two-loop renormalization group corrections induce significant mixing between the basis-invariant CP-odd phases. In the framework of the constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model (CMSSM), the CP-odd invariant related to the soft trilinear A-phase at the GUT scale, theta_A, induces non-trivial and distinct CP-odd phases for the three gaugino masses at the weak scale. The latter give one-loop contributions to EDMs enhanced by tan beta, and can provide the dominant contribution to the electron EDM induced by theta_A. We perform a detailed analysis of the EDM constraints within the CMSSM, exhibiting the reach, in terms of sparticle spectra, which may be obtained assuming generic phases, as well as the limits on the CP-odd phases for some specific parameter points where detailed phenomenological studies are available. We also illustrate how this reach will expand with results from the next generation of experiments which are currently in development.Comment: 31 pages, 21 eps figures; v2: additional remarks on 2-loop threshold corrections and references added; v3: typos corrected, to appear in Phys. Lepton Flavor Violating Processes and Muon g-2 in Minimal Supersymmetric SO(10) Model

In the recently proposed minimal supersymmetric SO(10) model, the neutrino Dirac Yukawa coupling matrix, together with all the other fermion mass matrices, is completely determined once free parameters in the model are appropriately fixed so as to accommodate the recent neutrino oscillation data. Using this unambiguous neutrino Dirac Yukawa couplings, we calculate the lepton flavor violating (LFV) processes and the muon g-2 assuming the minimal supergravity scenario. The resultant rates of the LFV processes are found to be large enough to well exceed the proposed future experimental bound, while the magnitude of the muon g-2 can be within the recent result by Brookhaven E821 experiment. Furthermore, we find that there exists a parameter region which can simultaneously realize the neutralino cold dark matter abundance consistent with the recent WMAP data.Comment: 18 pages, 10 figures.
