Buckling analysis of rectangular plates with variable thickness resting on elastic foundation

    Get PDF
Buckling of rectangular plates of variable thickness resting in elastic foundation is analysed using a quintic spline approximation technique. The thickness of the plate varies in the direction of one edge and the variations are assumed to be linear, exponential and sinusoidal. The plate is subjected to in plane load of two opposite edges. The buckling load and the mode shapes of buckling are computed from the eigenvalue problem that arises. Detailed parametric studies are made with different boundary conditions and the results are presented through the diagram and discussed

In ratoon crop of banana cv. Grande Naine, date of shooting could be advanced by 35 days with application of 200g N in 5 splits + 60g P2O5 (86 days), compared to 300g N in 5 splits + 60g P2O5 (121 days). Subsequently, date of harvest also got advanced by 53 days, and fruits were harvested on 9th December in the same treatment. Higher dose of N fertilization delayed shooting and harvesting period, taking 121 days for shooting and 145 days from shooting to harvest in the treatment 300g N (5 split doses) + 90g P2O5. Various N and P treatments affected bunch weight and number of hands per bunch significantly. Although N and P combination-treatments had no significant effect on bunch weight or number of hands per bunch, application of 200g N in 5 splits and 60g P2O5 per plant gave maximum bunch weight (18.11kg) and number of hands per bunch (10.61). Minimum bunch weight (15.37kg) and the least number of hands per bunch (7.08) were obtained with 150g N in 5 splits + 90g P2O5. Hand-weight (2.20kg), number of fingers per hand (19.75), and finger length (20.30cm) was highest with application of 200g N in 5 splits + 60g P2O5 per plant. Least hand-weight (1.64kg), number of fingers per hand (15.77), and finger-length (17.92cm) was recorded with 150g N in 5 splits + 90g P2O5. Bunch weight, number of hands per bunch, hand-weight and number of fingers per hand too was affected significantly with sole application of nitrogen or phosphorus

RNAi mediated Tiam1 gene knockdown inhibits invasion of retinoblastoma

T lymphoma invasion and metastasis protein (Tiam1) is up-regulated in variety of cancers and its expression level is related to metastatic potential of the type of cancer. Earlier, Tiam1 was shown to be overexpressed in retinoblastoma (RB) and we hypothesized that it was involved in invasiveness of RB. This was tested by silencing Tiam1 in RB cell lines (Y79 and Weri-Rb1) using siRNA pool, targeting different regions of Tiam1 mRNA. The cDNA microarray of Tiam1 silenced cells showed gene regulations altered by Tiam1 were predominantly on the actin cytoskeleton interacting proteins, apoptotic initiators and tumorogenic potential targets. The silenced phenotype resulted in decreased growth and increased apoptosis with non-invasive characteristics. Transfection of full length and N-terminal truncated construct (C1199) clearly revealed membrane localization of Tiam1 and not in the case of C580 construct. F-actin staining showed the interaction of Tiam1 with actin in the membrane edges that leads to ruffling, and also imparts varying invasive potential to the cell. The results obtained from our study show for the first time that Tiam1 modulates the cell invasion, mediated by actin cytoskeleton remodeling in RB

Spin-polarized hole transport through a diluted magnetic semiconductor heterostructure with magnetic-field modulations

We investigate the spin-polarized transport of holes in symmetric and asymmetric diluted magnetic semiconductor heterostructures of CdTe/Cd1x_{1-x}MnxTe under local magnetic-field modulations. The effect of a type-I–to–type-II transition in the CdTe/Cd1x_{1-x}MnxTe heterostructure is also used in our model. The spatially modulated magnetic field provides us with a new degree of freedom to control the degree of spin-polarized transport of holes. Our investigations show that spin-polarized transport of holes reaches 100% polarization with modulated weak magnetic field. This could be suitably engineered in the fabrication of perfect magnetic semiconductor spin-filters

752-756The carrier mobility in a quantum well wire has been estimated in three different models. It is shown that the estimated mobility values depend strongly on the type of impurity distribution employed

    Abstract: A Smarandache-Fibonacci Triple is a sequence S(n), n ≥ 0 such that S(n) = S(n − 1) + S(n − 2), where S(n) is the Smarandache function for integers n ≥ 0. Certainly, it is a generalization of Fibonacci sequence. A Fibonacci graceful labeling and a super Fibonacci graceful labeling on graphs were introduced by Kathiresan and Amutha in 2006. Generally, let G be a (p,q)-graph and S(n)|n ≥ 0 a Smarandache-Fibonacci Triple. An bijection f: V (G) → {S(0), S(1), S(2),..., S(q)} is said to be a super Smarandache-Fibonacci graceful graph if the induced edge labeling f ∗ (uv) = |f(u) − f(v) | is a bijection onto the set {S(1), S(2),..., S(q)}. Particularly, if S(n), n ≥ 0 is just the Fibonacci sequence Fi, i ≥ 0, such a graph is called a super Fibonacci graceful graph. In this paper, we show that some special class of graphs namely F t n, C t n and S t m,n are super fibonacci graceful graphs

Particularly, if S(n), n ≥ 0 is just the Fibonacci sequence Fi, i ≥ 0, such a graph is called a super Fibonacci graceful graph. In this paper, we construct new types of graphs namely Fn ⊕ K + 1,m, Cn ⊕ Pm, K1,n ⊘ K1,2, Fn ⊕ Pm and Cn ⊕ K1,m and we prove that these graphs are super Fibonacci graceful graphs

Investigation of Mechanical and Corrosion Properties of Al 7075/Garnet Metal Matrix Composites by Two-stage Stir Casting Process

    No full text
The impact of Garnet addition into the AL7075 aluminium matrix on the physical, mechanical and corrosion properties are studied in this research paper. Al 7075/garnet composites are fabricated by using two-stage stir casting method in different (0, 5, 10, 15) volume percentages. Photomicrograph of prepared samples revealed the uniform distribution of garnet reinforcement into the base matrix. The corrosion rate is calculated by potentiodynamic polarization method. The actual density is increased by around 1.2% for al 7075 / garnet (15%) composite as compared to base alloy. Micro hardness of al 7075 / garnet (15%) composite is raised by around 47 (34%) compare to as cast base matrix. Al 7075 / garnet (15%) composite tensile strength stood at 252 Mpa, which is 40% greater than the base alloy. Al 7075 / 15% garnet composites reduce around 97% of corrosion rate than the base matrix. Alloy elements influenced the corrosion than Garnet reinforcement
