Expedition diary — insights into the history of organizing and conducting Russian Arctic expeditions in the early XXth century

The collections belonging to the Museum-Archive of the history of study and development of the European North of the Barents Center of the Humanities — Branch of the Federal Research Center «Kola Science Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences» (BCH KSC RAS), contain several handwritten diaries by members of Arctic expeditions organized in the first half of the XXth century. The article discusses the value of the expedition diary of a member of a Russian Arctic expedition to Dikson Island (1916), the hydrometeorologist Innokenty Tikhomirov (1890–1955), as a possible source of data on the history of organizing and conducting scientific research in the Arctic. Based on the data presented in the diary, the paper reconstructs the progress of work on the organization of the northernmost meteorological station on Dikson Island in 1916.В фондах, принадлежащих Музею-архиву истории изучения и освоения Европейского Севера Центра гуманитарных проблем Баренц региона — филиала ФИЦ КНЦ РАН, хранятся несколько рукописных дневников, авторы которых в первой половине ХХ в. были участниками арктических экспедиций. Literary Cinematography as a Narrative Strategy in a Fiction Text (E. Canetti “Voices of Marrakech”)

The work of the Austrian writer, Nobel Prize winner Elias Canetti (1905—1994) is studied in the aspect of literary cinematography, indicating the synthesis of literature and cinema, in particular, in the choice of means for implementing audiovisuality in a literary text. The phenomenon under study is considered on the material of the book “Voices of Marrakesh. Notes after a Journey” (“Die Stimmen von Marrakesch. Aufzeichnungen nach einer Reise”), the composition of which uses the montage principle, which combines fourteen chapters into a single whole. An attempt was made to identify the originality of Canetti’s idiostyle from the perspective of literary cinematography, which determines the novelty and relevance of the study. The authors proceed from the fact that literary cinematography can be considered as a narrative strategy that includes not only communication with the reader, but also “auto-communication” (Yu. M. Lotman). The question is raised about the significance of the acoustic element (“acoustic mask”) in creating the image of a foreign culture, linguistic means of realizing cinematography are revealed. The methodological basis of this article is the research of domestic and foreign scientists concerning both the narrative nature of a literary text and literary cinematography

Functioning of Literary Anthroponyms in the Works by E. Canetti and K. Hoffer

The author studies the works of Austrian writers Elias Canetti “Earwitness. 50 characters” (“Der Ohrenzeuge. 50 Charaktere”) and Klaus Hoffer “In Graz” (“Bei den Bieresch”). The relevance of the study is determined by the need to comprehend the literary process of Austria in the second half of the twentieth century. A review of the existing points of view regarding the significance of the analyzed works of both authors and in modern Austrian literature is performed. The debatable nature of Canetti's book genre and the originality of the poetics of the Hoffer novel are noted. The authors of the article proceed from the fact that Canetti's work is a “collection” of literary miniatures; Hoffer's novel can be considered as an example of the initial stage of development of German-language postmodern literature. The narrative strategies used by Canetti and Hoffer to create a surrealistic context and “fantastic reality” are drawn into consideration. The authors dwell on the study of the functioning of literary anthroponyms in the text space of works. It is proved that fictional onomastics is involved in the creation of semantic multidimensionality of a literary text. Hoffer’s novel traces Canetti’s borrowed method of creating a verbal image with enriched contextual semantics using proper names. The translation aspect remains outside the scope of the article
