    Elasticity of the Sm[1-x]Y[x]S alloy Based on Ultrasonic Measurements

    The elastic moduli, sound velocities, Gruneisen parameter, Poisson's ratios and brittleness-plasticity criterion ratios are studied for the Sm[1-x]Y[x]S alloys. Their dependence on the concentration of alloy components including a valence transition from semiconductors into the metal phase is presented. Auxeticity (negative Poisson's ratio) is found for some concentrations

    Electron heating and acceleration for the nonlinear kinetic equation

    Time evolution of the isotropic electron distribution function while heating for the nonlinear kinetic equation with the Landau-Fokker-Planck collisional integral is studied. The considered heating sources are mono kinetic distribution, hot ions, and a quasi-linear diffusion operator. The investigation is mainly concentrated on the formation of the distribution function and tail acceleration. The time-dependent solutions allowing the solutions in self-similar variables are examined. Also presented are analytical asymptotic solutions and comparison them with numerical results

    Optical morphology of distant RATAN-600 radio galaxies from subarcsecond resolution NOT images

    We present direct imaging data of 22 ultra steep spectrum radio sources obtained at (or near) a subarcsecond seeing. The basic sample of 40 double radio sources was selected from the RATAN-600 catalogue. The FRII-structure has been confirmed with VLA and preliminary optical identifications which come from the 6 m-telescope. As the RATAN-600 flux limit at 3.9 GHz (\approx 10mJy) is fainter than that of major surveys, the sample may have high-zz contents. This is also suggested by the faint magnitudes in the Hubble diagram. The final aim is to create a homogeneous sample of high-zz radio galaxies in a well defined strip around the sky, with faint radio limit and subarcsecond morphology down to mR=24m_{R}=24. We could confirm 16 identifications down to mRm_{R}\sim24. Most of the extended objects have multicomponent structures as expected from other surveys of high-redshift radio galaxies. We found five unresolved objects even with a subarcsecond seeing.     Frequency of Interferon-Resistance Conferring Substitutions in Amino Acid Positions 70 and 91 of Core Protein of the Russian HCV 1b Isolates Analyzed in the T-Cell Epitopic Context

Kichatova et al.Amino acid substitutions R70Q/H and L91M in HCV subtype 1b core protein can affect the response to interferon and are associated with the development of hepatocellular carcinoma. We found that the rate of R70Q/H in HCV 1b from Russia was 31.2%, similar to that in HCV strains from Asia (34.0%), higher than that in the European (18.0%, p=0.0010), but lower than that in the US HCV 1b strains (62.8%, p<0.0001). Substitution L91M was found in 80.4% of the Russian HCV 1b isolates, higher than in Asian isolates (43.8%, p<0.0001). Thus, a significant proportion of Russian HCV 1b isolates carry the unfavorable R70Q/H and/or L91M substitution. In silico analysis of the epitopic structure of the regions of substitutions revealed that both harbor clusters of T-cell epitopes. Peptides encompassing these regions were predicted to bind to a panel of HLA class I molecules, with substitutions impairing peptide recognition by HLA I molecules of the alleles prevalent in Russia. This indicates that HCV 1b with R70Q/H and L91M substitutions may have evolved as the immune escape variants. Impairment of T-cell recognition may play a part in the negative effect of these substitutions on the response to IFN treatment.Peer reviewe

    Modes of magnetic resonance in the spin liquid phase of Cs2CuCl4

    We report the observation of a frequency shift and splitting of the electron spin resonance (ESR) mode of the low-dimensional S=1/2 frustrated antiferromagnet Cs2CuCl4 in the spin-correlated state below the Curie-Weiss temperature 4 K but above the ordering temperature 0.62 K. The shift and splitting exhibit strong anisotropy with respect to the direction of the applied magnetic field and do not vanish in zero field. The low-temperature evolution of spin resonance response is a result of the specific modification of one-dimensional spinon continuum under the action of the uniform Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DM) within the spin chains.     RATAN-600 7.6-cm Deep Sky Strip Surveys at the Declination of the SS433 Source During the 1980-1999 Period. Data Reduction and the Catalog of Radio Sources in the Right-Ascension Interval 7h < R.A. < 17h

    We use two independent methods to reduce the data of the surveys made with RATAN-600 radio telescope at 7.6 cm in 1988-1999 at the declination of the SS433 source. We also reprocess the data of the "Cold" survey (1980-1981). The resulting RCR (RATAN COLD REFINED) catalog contains the right ascensions and fluxes of objects identified with those of the NVSS catalog in the right-ascension interval 7h < R.A. < 17h. We obtain the spectra of the radio sources and determine their spectral indices at 3.94 and 0.5 GHz. The spectra are based on the data from all known catalogs available from the CATS, Vizier, and NED databases, and the flux estimates inferred from the maps of the VLSS and GB6 surveys. For 245 of the 550 objects of the RCR catalog the fluxes are known at two frequencies only: 3.94 GHz (RCR) and 1.4 GHz (NVSS). These are mostly sources with fluxes smaller than 30 mJy. About 65% of these sources have flat or inverse spectra (alpha > -0.5). We analyze the reliability of the results obtained for the entire list of objects and construct the histograms of the spectral indices and fluxes of the sources. Our main conclusion is that all 10-15 mJy objects found in the considered right-ascension interval were already included in the decimeter-wave catalogs.Comment: 26 pages, 18 figure
