    PERCEPTION OF NURSING COLLEGE STUDENTS TOWARDS ONLINE TEACHING IN COVID-19 PANDEMIC, A CROSS SECTIONAL STUDY

    Background: In December 2019, a pathogenic human corona virus SARS- CoV-2, corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19), was recognized and has caused serious illness and numerous deaths. The epidemics of COVID-19 have been recorded over 200 countries, territories, and areas with 2 878 196 confirmed cased and 198 668 death cases. Aims: The current study is to assess the attitude of nursing college students regarding online classes. Objective:  1. To determine the perceptions of students towards e-learning during the lock down. 2. To assess nursing students attitude towards the online lectures Methodology: Setting and Design: Descriptive cross sectional survey research design was used and not probability sampling methods was used to drawn samples through online Google form. The sample collected from nursing college students and study setting was Dinsha Patel College of nursing, Nadiad, Gujarat. There were total 20 attitude question with five point rating scale were used. Total sample were 136 nursing college students. Data has been collected online through Google form. Statistical Analysis Used: Descriptive statistics applied where, data was analyzed by using SPSS software, and Frequency, percentage, tables etc were used to represent the statistical data. Results: Out of 136, 64(47.05%) were belong age 17-18 years, 115(84.56%) were female, 68(50%) were GNM students, 51(37.50%) B.Sc. nursing Students, 83(61.02%) were third year, 75(55.24%) were live urban, 61(44.86%) were  rural area, 56(41.17%) were  travel 21-30km, 40(29.41%) more than 30km, 65(47.79%) have above 15000 monthly family income 132(97.05%) were used mobile for online lecture 79(58.08%) were have  average network. Attitude regarding Online Classes where 7 (5.14%) had Inadequate Attitude 86(63.25%) had Moderate Attitude, 43(31.61%) Had adequate Attitude. Conclusions: Regarding the online lecture 63.25% nursing college students has moderate attitude and 31.61% had adequate attitude it means now days students are line online classes than physical mode due to various reasons such as, time consuming, reduce traveling, risk of accidents and corona, more time can spend with family etc

    The post-harvest physico-mechanical properties of fruits is important in adoption and design of varioushandling, packaging, storage and transportation systems. These are important for sizing and grading the fruit beforemarketing as well as demarcate their end use. Geometric, gravimetric and textural properties were determined forthe fresh samples of W. Murcottmandarin. The results show that W. Murcottfruit diameter varies from 81.82-68.97mm, equatorial length varies from 86.51-68.43 mm, and length varies from 61.33-52.08 mm. The specific mean areais 57.591 with the sphericity of 0.90. The L, a, b values were 53.37, 42.9 and 49.68 respectively. The firmness variedfrom 1.351-1.650 kgf. These physical attributes can be taken into consideration while designing the grading andprocessing equipment

    Comparative Study of Hypertension With Increasing Age of Elderly Postmenopausal Punjabi Women With Cardiovascular Disease: A Cross-sectional Study

    Background: The incidence of cardiovascular complications may increase after menopause. Hypertension (HTN) is one of the most remarkable causes leading to heart disease. The increased prevalence of HTN is associated with aging, causing adverse cardiovascular events in postmenopausal elderly women. Objectives: The present study aimed to compare HTN with the increasing age of elderly postmenopausal women with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and then to find an association between estradiol (E2) levels and the increased prevalence of HTN in these women. Methods: The present cross-sectional study recruited 265 cases of menopausal women suffering from CVD and 258 controls as menopausal women not suffering from CVD. Serum E2 and serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) were estimated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits. HTN was assessed in accordance with the guidelines of the Joint National Committee (VII) of high blood pressure. Anthropometric measurements such as weight, height, hip circumference, waist circumference (WC), waist-hip ratio, and body mass index (BMI) for all menopausal women were recorded according to the World Health Organization (WHO) (WHO) 2000 protocol. Results: Overall, cases of>45.1 years of the menopausal age group conferred more risk toward CVD as compared to cases of≤45 years of the menopausal age group. A significant positive correlation (P<0.05) was detected for E2 with HTN and obesity profile with increasing age at menopause. Conclusion: High prevalence of HTN irrespective of the early onset of menopause is one of the crucial risk factors for CVD. Our findings revealed a significant positive correlation of HTN with age at menopause>45.1 years, along with increased levels of E2. Women in this age group were observed to be obese

    Flagellar Motility Is a Key Determinant of the Magnitude of the Inflammasome Response to Pseudomonas aeruginosa

    We previously demonstrated that bacterial flagellar motility is a fundamental mechanism by which host phagocytes bind and ingest bacteria. Correspondingly, loss of bacterial motility, consistently observed in clinical isolates from chronic Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections, enables bacteria to evade association and ingestion of P. aeruginosa by phagocytes both in vitro and in vivo. Since bacterial interactions with the phagocyte cell surface are required for type three secretion system-dependent NLRC4 inflammasome activation by P. aeruginosa, we hypothesized that reduced bacterial association with phagocytes due to loss of bacterial motility, independent of flagellar expression, will lead to reduced inflammasome activation. Here we report that inflammasome activation is reduced in response to nonmotile P. aeruginosa. Nonmotile P. aeruginosa elicits reduced IL-1β production as well as caspase-1 activation by peritoneal macrophages and bone marrow-derived dendritic cells in vitro. Importantly, nonmotile P. aeruginosa also elicits reduced IL-1β levels in vivo in comparison to those elicited by wild-type P. aeruginosa. This is the first demonstration that loss of bacterial motility results in reduced inflammasome activation and antibacterial IL-1β host response. These results provide a critical insight into how the innate immune system responds to bacterial motility and, correspondingly, how pathogens have evolved mechanisms to evade the innate immune system

    Patient-focused Websites Related to Stress Urinary Incontinence and Pelvic Organ Prolapse: a DISCERN Quality Analysis

    Objective: To evaluate the quality of information presented on English-language websites regarding treatment options for POP and SUI using a validated instrument. Methods: Utilizing the International Urogynecology Association list of continence societies worldwide, faculty nomination and a complementary Google search using the terms “professional organizations stress urinary incontinence / pelvic organ prolapse” English-language, patient-focused websites related to POP and SUI were identified. The websites were evaluated by faculty at an academic medical center, including 4 faculty members of the urogynecology division, 2 urogynecology fellows, 3 urologists, and 1 obstetrician gynecologist. The websites were independently evaluated using the validated DISCERN instrument assessing the reliability and quality of consumer health information.Results: From the IUGA continence societies worldwide list, 47 websites were identified. Five provided patient information in English. Eight additional websites were identified from the Google search or provider nomination. One website provided information only for POP (rectocele), 5 for SUI, and 7 for both. The lowest mean total score for any website was 38.7 and the highest mean total score was 61.5 across all the websites. There were no statistically significant differences in the website mean total scores (p value \u3c0.40 for POP and 0.14 for SUI). For websites covering both topics, POP scores were generally higher than SUI scores, but not statistically significantly different (p value\u3c3.75). The overall quality item scores were also not significantly different (SUI: p\u3c0.923; POP: p \u3c0.813). Missing information most commonly included lack of clear objectives, sources, and information related to the expected outcome of no intervention.Conclusions: Available English-language professional websites written to inform patients about management choices for SUI and POP miss key components of quality patient information

    Roadmap on emerging concepts in the physical biology of bacterial biofilms: from surface sensing to community formation

    Bacterial biofilms are communities of bacteria that exist as aggregates that can adhere to surfaces or be free-standing. This complex, social mode of cellular organization is fundamental to the physiology of microbes and often exhibits surprising behavior. Bacterial biofilms are more than the sum of their parts: single-cell behavior has a complex relation to collective community behavior, in a manner perhaps cognate to the complex relation between atomic physics and condensed matter physics. Biofilm microbiology is a relatively young field by biology standards, but it has already attracted intense attention from physicists. Sometimes, this attention takes the form of seeing biofilms as inspiration for new physics. In this roadmap, we highlight the work of those who have taken the opposite strategy: we highlight the work of physicists and physical scientists who use physics to engage fundamental concepts in bacterial biofilm microbiology, including adhesion, sensing, motility, signaling, memory, energy flow, community formation and cooperativity. These contributions are juxtaposed with microbiologists who have made recent important discoveries on bacterial biofilms using state-of-the-art physical methods. The contributions to this roadmap exemplify how well physics and biology can be combined to achieve a new synthesis, rather than just a division of labor

    Switching and Torque Generation in Swarming E. coli

    Escherichia coli swarm on semi-solid surfaces with the aid of flagella. It has been hypothesized that swarmer cells overcome the increased viscous drag near surfaces by developing higher flagellar thrust and by promoting surface wetness with the aid of a flagellar switch. The switch enables reversals between clockwise (CW) and counterclockwise (CCW) directions of rotation of the flagellar motor. Here, we measured the behavior of flagellar motors in swarmer cells. Results indicated that although the torque was similar to that in planktonic cells, the tendency to rotate CCW was higher in swarmer cells. This suggested that swarmers likely have a smaller pool of phosphorylated CheY. Results further indicated that the upregulation of the flagellin gene was not critical for flagellar thrust or swarming. Consistent with earlier reports, moisture added to the swarm surface restored swarming in a CCW-only mutant, but not in a FliG mutant that rotated motors CW-only (FliGCW). Fluorescence assays revealed that FliGCW cells grown on agar surfaces carried fewer flagella than planktonic FliGCW cells. The surface-dependent reduction in flagella correlated with a reduction in the number of putative flagellar preassemblies. These results hint toward a possibility that the conformational dynamics of switch proteins play a role in the proper assembly of flagellar complexes and flagellar export, thereby aiding bacterial swarming

    Supracervical hysterectomy versus total abdominal hysterectomy: perceived effects on sexual function

    BACKGROUND: Our investigation sought to compare changes in sexual function following supracervical hysterectomy (SCH) and total abdominal hysterectomy (TAH). METHODS: A retrospective chart review was performed to identify all patients who underwent supracervical hysterectomy or total abdominal hysterectomy at a tertiary care center. Patients who met criteria for participation were sent a one page confidential, anonymous questionnaire to assess sexual function experienced both pre- and postoperatively. A total of 69 patients in each group were eligible for participation. A multiple logistic regression model was used to analyze measured variables. RESULTS: Forty-eight percent (n = 33) of women undergoing a SCH returned the questionnaire, while 39% (n = 27) of those undergoing a TAH chose to participate. There were no significant demographic differences between the two groups. Patients who underwent TAH reported worse postoperative sexual outcome than SCH patients with respect to intercourse frequency, orgasm frequency and overall sexual satisfaction (P = 0.01, 0.03, and 0.03, respectively). Irrespective of type of hysterectomy, 35% of patients who underwent bilateral salpingoophorectomy (BSO) with hysterectomy experienced worse overall sexual satisfaction compared to 3% of patients who underwent hysterectomy alone (P = 0.02). CONCLUSIONS: Our data suggest that TAH patients experienced worse postoperative sexual function than SCH patients with respect to intercourse frequency and overall sexual satisfaction. Irrespective of type of hysterectomy, patients who underwent bilateral salpingoophorectomy experienced worse overall sexual satisfaction
