Plant Location Selection for Food Production by Considering the Regional and Seasonal Supply Vulnerability of Raw Materials
A production capacity analysis considering market demand and raw materials is very important to design a new plant. However, in the food processing industry, the supply uncertainty of raw materials is very high, depending on the production site and the harvest season, and further, it is not straightforward to analyze too complex food production systems by using an analytical optimization model. For these reasons, this study presents a simulation-based decision support model to select the right location for a new food processing plant. We first define three supply vulnerability factors from the standpoint of regional as well as seasonal instability and present an assessment method for supply vulnerability based on fuzzy quantification. The evaluated vulnerability scores are then converted into raw material supply variations for food production simulation to predict the quarterly production volume of a new food processing plant. The proposed selection procedure is illustrated using a case study of semiprocessed kimchi production. The best plant location is proposed where we can reduce and mitigate risks when supplying raw material, thereby producing a target production volume steadily
Clinical Manifestations and Surgical Treatment Outcomes of Paranasal Sinus Osteoma
Background and Objectives Osteomas are the most common benign tumors of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses (PNSs). In this study, clinical features and imaging findings were analyzed in patients with osteoma confirmed by ostiomeatal unit (OMU) computed tomography (CT) and PNS CT, and the surgical treatment performed at our hospital was introduced. Methods The Severance Clinical Research Analysis Portal (SCRAP) service of Severance Hospital was used to collect research data. A total of 128 cases of osteomas of the nasal cavity or PNSs confirmed by OMU CT or PNS CT was retrospectively reviewed, including the location and size of the osteoma, clinical features, accompanying findings on imaging tests, and cases of surgical treatment. Results In this study, osteomas were found in about 0.55% of patients who underwent computed tomography. Osteomas were most frequently found in the ethmoid sinus, followed by the frontal sinus, fronto-ethmoid sinus, maxillary sinus, intranasal sphenoid sinus, and maxillary sinus-ethmoid sinus. Patients with osteomas complained of symptoms such as rhinorrhea, postnasal drip, nasal congestion, hyposmia, headache, visual disturbance, and lacrimal duct obstruction. Conclusion Surgical treatment was considered for patients presenting with severe headache, visual field symptoms, or accompanying rhinosinusitis. Association between tramadol use and seizures:A nationwide case-case-time-control study
PURPOSE: Tramadol may lower the seizure threshold; however, there is no conclusive evidence to confirm this. This study aimed to determine whether the use of tramadol is associated with the occurrence of seizures. METHODS: We conducted a case-case-time-control (CCTC) study by identifying patients who had received tramadol and seizure diagnosis in a nationwide healthcare database in South Korea between 2003 and 2015. Each case was matched for age and sex to one future case to adjust for time trends in exposure without selection bias from the use of an external control group. The use of tramadol was assessed during a risk period of 1-30 days, and two reference periods, 61-90 days and 91-120 days, preceding the first diagnosis of seizures. We calculated the adjusted odds ratio (aOR) by dividing the OR in cases (case-crossover) by the OR in future cases (control-crossover). We performed a dose-response analysis using the average daily dose. RESULTS: We identified 2523 incident cases with matched future cases (mean age, 45.4 years; 50% men). The aOR for seizure with tramadol use was 0.94 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.98-1.43) in the CCTC analysis, with a case-crossover OR of 1.19 (0.98-1.43) and control-crossover OR of 1.27 (1.03-1.56). The dose-response analysis showed a similar trend in the main analysis: a low-dose aOR of 0.80 (0.50-1.28) and a high-dose aOR of 0.92 (0.41-2.11). CONCLUSION: We could not identify a significant association between transient use of tramadol and incidence of seizures in clinical practice

The title compound, C24H20Br2N2O4, is an 18-membered tricycle including two isoxazole rings. The asymmetric unit contains one half of the formula unit; a centre of inversion is located at the centroid of the compound. The dihedral angle between adjacent isoxazole and benzene rings is 84.0 (2)°. The compound displays intra- and intermolecular π–π stacking interactions between the isoxazole rings, the shortest centroid–centroid distances being 3.837 (3) and 3.634 (3) Å, respectively. The molecules are stacked in columns along the a axis with short Br⋯Br contacts [3.508 (1) Å]
Viable stretchable plasmonics based on unidirectional nanoprisms
Well-defined ordered arrays of plasmonic nanostructures were fabricated on stretchable substrates and tunable plasmon-coupling-based sensing properties were comprehensively demonstrated upon extension and contraction. Regular nanoprism patterns consisting of Ag, Au and Ag/Au bilayers were constructed on the stretchable polydimethylsiloxane substrate. The nanoprisms had the same orientation over the entire substrate (3 x 3 cm(2)) via metal deposition on a single-crystal microparticle monolayer assembly. The plasmonic sensor based on the Ag/Au bilayer showed a 6-fold enhanced surface enhanced Raman scattering signal under 20% uniaxial extension, whereas a 3-fold increase was observed upon 6% contraction, compared with the Au nanoprism arrays. The sensory behaviors were corroborated by finite-difference time-domain simulation, demonstrating the tunable electromagnetic field enhancement effect via the localized surface plasmon resonance coupling. The advanced flexible plasmonic-coupling-based devices with tunable and quantifiable performance herein suggested are expected to unlock promising potential in practical bio-sensing, biotechnological applications and optical devices.11Ysciescopu
Limits of Binaries That Can Be Characterized by Gravitational Microlensing
Due to the high efficiency of planet detections, current microlensing planet
searches focus on high-magnification events. High-magnification events are
sensitive to remote binary companions as well and thus a sample of
wide-separation binaries are expected to be collected as a byproduct. In this
paper, we show that characterizing binaries for a portion of this sample will
be difficult due to the degeneracy of the binary-lensing parameters. This
degeneracy arises because the perturbation induced by the binary companion is
well approximated by the Chang-Refsdal lensing for binaries with separations
greater than a certain limit. For binaries composed of equal mass lenses, we
find that the lens binarity can be noticed up to the separations of
times of the Einstein radius corresponding to the mass of each lens. Among
these binaries, however, we find that the lensing parameters can be determined
only for a portion of binaries with separations less than times of

Adiponectin is Associated with Impaired Fasting Glucose in the Non-Diabetic Population
OBJECTIVES: Adiponectin is strongly associated with diabetes in the Western population. However, whether adiponectin is independently associated with impaired fasting glucose (IFG) in the non-obese population is unknown.
METHODS: The serum adiponectin, insulin resistance (IR), and waist circumference (WC) of 27,549 healthy Koreans were measured. Individuals were then classified into tertile groups by gender. IFG was defined as a fasting serum glucose of 100-125 mg/dL without diabetes. IR was calculated using the homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR). The association of adiponectin and IFG was determined using logistic regression analysis.
RESULTS: WC and adiponectin were associated with IFG in both men and women. However, the association of WC with IFG was attenuated in both men and women after adjustment for the HOMA-IR. Adiponectin was still associated with IFG after adjustment for and stratification by HOMA-IR in men and women. Strong combined associations of IR and adiponectin with IFG were observed in men and women. Multivariate adjusted odds ratios (ORs) (95% confidence interval [CI]) among those in the highest tertile of IR and the lowest tertile of adiponectin were 9.8 (7.96 to 12.07) for men and 24.1 (13.86 to 41.94) for women.
CONCLUSION: These results suggest that adiponectin is strongly associated with IFG, and point to adiponectin as an additional diagnostic biomarker of IFG in the non-diabetic population.ope
