Correlation and linear regression analyses between mean annual pelt price and total harvest of 13 Arkansas furbearer species between 1965 and 1983 were performed for state and regions (Ozark Mountains, Ouachita Mountains, Gulf Coastal Plain, and Mississippi Delta). Statewide, strong correlations (r \u3e 0.80) were identified for bobcat (Felis rufus), coyote (Canis latrans), gray fox (Urocyon cinereoargenteus), mink (Mustela vison), nutria (Myocastor coypus), opossum (Didelphis virginiana), and raccoon (Procyonlotor). Moderate correlations (r = 0.55 - 0.79) were identified for eastern spotted skunk (Spilogale putorius), muskrat (Ondatra zibethicus), river otter (Lutra canadensis), and striped skunk (Mephitis mephitis). Nonsignificant correlations (r \u3c 0.468) were shown for beaver (Castor canadensis) and long-tailed weasel (Mustela frenata). Regional differences were noted for each species

Are SERMs safe and effective for the treatment of hypogonadism in men?

Q: Are SERMs safe and effective for the treatment of hypogonadism in men? Evidence-based answer: YES. For both normal-weight and obese men with low testosterone levels and hypogonadal symptoms, selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs), such as clomiphene citrate (CC) and enclomiphene citrate (EC), appear to be effective and safe for improving serum testosterone levels (strength of recommendation [SOR]: C, disease-oriented outcomes from randomized controlled trials [RCTs] and cohort studies). Studies also show that symptom improvement is comparable to that with exogenous testosterone replacement and similar to eugonadal men (SOR: B, patient-oriented outcomes from retrospective cohort studies).Tina Joseph, DO; Lawrence M. Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN) plays an important role in helping students who are unable to pursue studies because of financial problem. Every year, a group of students were identified as the recipient based on certain guidelines. However, majority of them are having financial difficulty due to lack of knowledge on cash management practice. In order to find out the level of cash management practice among them, a study was conducted to identify factors that might affect the level of cash flow management practice among the PTPTN loan recipients. i.e.IPTA undergraduates in Sabah and Sarawak. The data were obtained from questionnaire and were statistically analyzed using SPSS. The analysis of data revealed that majority of the respondents irregularly practised cash management. As a whole, it can be concluded that financial behaviour item such as pay bill on time has significant relationship with gender, university course, location of university, place of students' residence and Bumiputera status. This is followed by items such as keep ATM transaction receipts, save for large purchases, know cost of buying on credit and know about investment which have significant relationship with any 4 determinants. However, there is no significant relationship between self-efficacy item that is confident in making decision about cash flow with all the 5 determinants namely gender, university course, location, place of parents' residence and Bumiputera status. Thus it can be concluded that most of our respondents are risk adverse despite practising irregular cash management practice. Some recommendation has also been made to improve the existing scenario

Health, disability, psychological well-being, and depressive symptoms among older African American women

This study examines the demographic correlates of psychological well-being (i.e., happiness and life satisfaction) and mental health (i.e., depressive symptoms and serious psychological distress) among older African American women. Addition- ally, the relationships between self-rated physical and oral health and disability and psychological well-being and mental health are explored. Analyses are based on a nationally representative sample of older African American women from the National Survey of American Life. Results indicate that psychological well-being (i.e., life satisfaction and happiness) and mental health (i.e., depressive symptoms and serious psychological distress) are associated with specific demographic factors. In addition, self-rated health and limited mobility due to disability exerted significant influences on psychological well-being, depressive symptoms, and psychological distress. Findings are discussed in relation to prior research on demographic and health factors and their unique associations with well-being and mental status among older African American women.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/107409/1/Health, Disability, Psychological Well-Being, and Depressive Symptoms among Older African American Women.pdfDescription of Health, Disability, Psychological Well-Being, and Depressive Symptoms among Older African American Women.pdf : Main articl

This study examined school characteristics and secondary school teachers’ work effectiveness in Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State. Specifically, the study examined the influence of school location, school population, and school ownership on secondary school teachers’ work effectiveness respectively. Three research questions were posed and three null hypotheses were formulated accordingly to guide the study. The design adopted for the study was a descriptive survey research design. A purposive sampling technique was used to select a sample of 156 respondents out of a population of 549 teachers. A questionnaire titled “Teachers’ work effectiveness questionnaire” (TWEQ) was used as an instrument for data collection. Collected data were analysed using descriptive statistics, while the null hypotheses were all tested at .05 level of significance using the independent t-test statistical technique. The results of the analysis revealed that school characteristics such as location, population, and ownership, influenced secondary school teachers’ work effectiveness respectively. Based on these findings, it was recommended among others that; teachers should be motivated using intrinsic and extrinsic channels such as praises, rewards for outstanding performance, regular payment of salaries, promotion and other incentives such as improved working conditions, good classroom, and office environment, and so on, for improved work performance

Subjective well-being of older African Americans with DSM IV psychiatric disorders

This study examined demographic and mental health correlates of subjective well-being (i.e., life satisfaction, happiness) using a national sample of older African Americans with psychiatric disorders. We used a subsample of 185 African Americans, 55 and older with at least one of thirteen lifetime psychiatric disorders from The National Survey of American Life: Coping with Stress in the Twenty-first Century. The findings indicated that among this population of older adults who had a lifetime psychiatric dis- order, having a lifetime suicidal ideation was associated with life satisfaction but not happiness. Further, having a 12-month anxiety disorder or a lifetime suicidal ideation was not associated with happiness. Having a 12-month mood disorder, however, was negatively associated with an individual’s level of happiness, as well as their life satisfaction. Additionally, there were two significant interactions. Among men, employment was pos- itively associated with life satisfaction, and marriage was associated with higher levels of happiness among men but not women. The overall pattern of findings reflects both simi- larities and departures from prior research confirming that well-being evaluations are associated with multiple factors.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/107412/1/art%3A10.1007%2Fs10902-013-9470-7(1).pdfDescription of art%3A10.1007%2Fs10902-013-9470-7(1).pdf : Main articl
