The couplings of axion-like particles are probed by different experiments across a huge range of energy scales. Accordingly, a consistent analysis of the corresponding constraints requires the use of the renormalization group equations. We compute the full one-loop renormalization group evolution of all -- relevant and marginal -- parameters in the effective field theory for axion-like particles up to dimension five, above and below the electroweak scale, assuming only that new physics does not violate CP. We also include a detailed discussion of the different bases used in the literature, the relations among them and the interplay of the CP and shift symmetries.Comment: 28 pages + 4 appendice

This educational innovative proposal originates from the need to introduce mediatic and critical thinking to students. This project will use memes as main tools to introduce these competences. Current lifestyle for most young people implies living within digital media. This situation has given place to new risks, such as fake news, or negative values to be exposed at such a vulnerable age of developing for teenagers. Therefore, this proposal is born from my own practices period, so it is possible to create and simulate the actions here documented. This proposal will be created within the conditions given during the practices, like the real group of students. Alongside this proposal is also offered a brief scientific background to justify and understand the meaning and aims of this work

Information and communication technology (ICT) can be considered as a set of technological resources that allows easy access to information as well as its spread. These technologies are in the daily lives of the contemporary society in many different ways. The history of the education which is offered to the rural population is marked by disruption, unimportance, badly structured schools and out of context subjects in relation to the student’s lives. Taking this discussion into account, it is made a reflection about the use of the ICT in rural education in the county of Rio Tinto-PB, considering the teachers’ training as well as their pedagogical practice. The outcome reached in this work is the result of a lengthy process of bibliographical research, direct monitoring of the rural school, visits, application of questionnaires and their analysis. In this sense, it was verified that, throughout the research about the rural education, the teachers have difficulties in use the ICT, the lesson plans should be developed in relation to the students’ lives, there should be varied ways of construction of the physical and symbolic spaces, of the individuals, of the environment, as the present education of the rural schools is far away from the desired education. Besides that, there is a deficit in the structural organization of the rural schools as well as in their continuing education of teachers. Given the study, it is revealed that the implementation of the use of the ICT in rural education in Rio Tinto-PB is still on progress.

Quality Enhancement of Highly Degraded Music Using Deep Learning-Based Prediction Models for Lost Frequencies

Audio quality degradation can have many causes. For musical applications, this fragmentation may lead to highly unpleasant experiences. Restoration algorithms may be employed to reconstruct missing parts of the audio in a similar way as for image reconstruction-in an approach called audio inpainting. Current state-of-The art methods for audio inpainting cover limited scenarios, with well-defined gap windows and little variety of musical genres. In this work, we propose a Deep-Learning-based (DL-based) method for audio inpainting accompanied by a dataset with random fragmentation conditions that approximate real impairment situations. The dataset was collected using tracks from different music genres to provide a good signal variability. Our best model improved the quality of all musical genres, obtaining an average of 12.9 dB of PSNR, although it worked better for musical genres in which acoustic instruments are predominant

A Cluster-Based Method for Action Segmentation Using Spatio-Temporal and Positional Encoded Embeddings

A crucial task to overall video understanding is the recognition and localisation in time of different actions or events that are present along the scenes. To address this problem, action segmentation must be achieved. Action segmentation consists of temporally segmenting a video by labeling each frame with a specific action. In this work, we propose a novel action segmentation method that requires no prior video analysis and no annotated data. Our method involves extracting spatio-Temporal features from videos in samples of 0.5s using a pre-Trained deep network. Data is then transformed using a positional encoder and finally a clustering algorithm is applied with the use of a silhouette score to find the optimal number of clusters where each cluster presumably corresponds to a different single and distinguishable action. In experiments, we show that our method produces competitive results on Breakfast and Inria Instructional Videos dataset benchmarks

    Reliability of Marine Structural Components

    Get PDF
The use of strength formulations' characteristic of marine structural components in reliability assessment is investigated throughout a series of systematic studies The marine structural components used were the stiffened plate and the ring and stringer stiffened cylinder and the design scenario is their resistance to compressive loads (buckling) which is the most common failure modes in marine structures. The systematic studies provided a good understanding of the behaviour of the several strength formulations when they are used in reliability calculations. Also, the importance of all uncertainties involved was analysed and commented. The formulations considered for the stiffened plates buckling strength were the proposals of Faulkner, Guedes Soares, Ivanov and Rousev, Carlsen, Ueda and Yao, Soreide and Czujko, Valsgard, ABS, Dier and Dowling and Stonor et al. The formulations are flilly described in the text along with the discussion of their reliability assessment results. The formulations considered for the ring-stringer stiffened cylinders buckling strength were the proposals of several codes of practice API Bui 2U, RCC, DnV CN-30.1 and ECCS-29. They are finally described in the text along with the discussion of their uncertainties and reliability assessment The strength modelling parameters are the most important variables in the reliability assessment and they were investigated for the case of the ring-stringer stiffened cylinders All formulations were compared with two large test results databases and the uncertainties were derived for all cases. Finally the last chapter aggregates the conclusions of the systematic studies for the stiffened plates and cylinders with the demonstration of the importance of good strength modelling for the reliability based design of structures. The methodology for good strength modelling is described and used in improving the strength formulations for the ring-stringer stiffened cylinders
