17 págs, 3 figuras.[EN] Some studies have proved that the perception of the environment is intersensorial. However, the studies focused on the evaluation of sound environment have been conducted without taking into account the influence of other sensorial information perceived in the environment. With the aim of analysing the incidence of the audio-visual interactions in the soundscape and how they affect the global assessment of the urban contexts, an experimental study was carried out on a sample of 313 subjects. The visual and auditory stimuli representing several urban environments were presented individually and combined. Their evaluation was made in a 7 point-scale of pleasantness. The results show that visual settings influence on the assessment of natural, technological and social sound environments. This interaction is significant and complex, depending on the pleasantness given to both visual and auditory stimuli. Results also emphasize that the global evaluation of urban environments depends on the audio-visual interactions.[ES] Diferentes estudios han comprobado que la percepción del medio es intersensorial. Peer reviewe

Simulation of gelled propellant doughs isothermal flow through extrusion dies using finite difference method

    Get PDF
During the ram extrusion of gelled propellants, the possible flow instabilities can affect the extruded propellant quality. The numerical modelling helps to enhance the geometry of extrusion die, by minimizing the product distortion caused by material flow during this forming process. In the present work, a numerical model based on the finite difference method is proposed to analyze the flow simulation of double-base gelled propellant doughs through annular channels of extrusion dies. The proposed model implements the pseudo-plastic behavior described by these energetic materials. This model will be used to deduce the configuration of spider legs and annular channels that allow optimize the quality of extruded gelled propellant. The researchers acknowledge to the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and the European Commission their support throughout the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) by the INNPACTO research project “Smart Propellants” (IPT-2011-0712-020000), involving EXPAL Systems S.A. and Universidad Politecnica de Cartagena (UPCT)

Neophobia and Seaweed Consumption: Effects on Consumer Attitude and Willingness to Consume Seaweed

[Abstract] Neophobia has become an increasingly researched phenomenon given its importance on the evaluation and acceptance of new products such as seaweeds, especially in a country where these products are not a part of the culinary tradition, for example, Spain. Seaweed is a form of algae, a nutritional and healthy product. Studies have investigated not only the influence of neophobia on the satisfaction and intention to consume seaweed, but also on its impact on the evaluation of the seaweed’s credence attributes such as health benefits. Previous research has concluded that consumers who are willing to consume novel products, like cooking and also demand elements of modernity and naturalness in their food. Considering this finding, a convenience sample comprising attendees of cooking workshops and young consumers was selected. Participants were evaluated about their opinion and attitude toward seaweed as food item, credibility of chefs, and the Food Neophobia Scale (FNS) prior to the tests. After the seaweed tasting, consumers were asked about their feedback and willingness to consume seaweed again. The results confirm that neophobia affects the intention to consume algae. However, consumer assessments of the credence attributes and confidence in the cues sent out by chefs regarding seaweed-based dishes are not influenced by neophobia. Hence, promotion of credence attributes such as health and natural properties of algae should be used to engage consumers potentially interested in new experiences. Simultaneously, the use of credible cues from chefs also represents an excellent way to increase consumer confidence and surpass the barrier created by neophobia

Hollow Microcrystals of Copper Hexafluoroacetylacetonate-Pyridine Derivative Adducts via Supercritical CO2 Recrystallization

An innovative crystallization process, based in the use of the eco-friendly supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) solvent, is presented for the production of coordination compounds macrocrystals of general formula [Cu(hfacac)2(dPy)2], with intriguing prismatic hollow structures and single polymorphic forms. On the contrary, conventional solvents yielded compact microstructures. Studied pyridine derivatives (dPy) were 4-phenylpyridine, PhPy; 4-benzylylpyridine, BzPy; and 4-acetylpyridine, AcPy. In the specific case of the [Cu(hfacac)2(AcPy)2] adduct, the use of scCO2 as a solvent allows obtaining a pure polymorph, while the conventional solvent trials yielded a mixture of two polymorphs. Four new crystalline structures have been resolved from single crystal X-ray diffraction. All the structures consist in mononuclear complexes connected through intermolecular interactions, including H···H, H···O, F···F, C-F···Caromatic and/or C-F··· interactions, generating bidimensional networks that determine their crystallization mode in scCO2.This work was partially financed by the Spanish National Plan of Research CTQ2014-56324 and Severo Ochoa SEV-2015-0496, and by the Generalitat de Catalunya 2014SGR377.
