Treatment of dental trauma should be planned based on a multidisciplinary approach. It is known that the maintenance of oral health in these situations depends not only on the viability of dental tissues, but also on the periodontal damage occurred and the emergency therapeutic procedures performed. Aim: The purpose of this epidemiological retrospective study was to assess the periodontal involvement in traumatized teeth treated at the Piracicaba Dental School/,UNICAMP Dental Trauma Attendance Service (DTAS), during a period of 4 years. Methods: Clinical charts of patients (n=203) treated between 2006 and 2009 at DTAS were retrospectively analyzed. Results: A total of 295 traumatized teeth were assessed about history, type of dental trauma, and periodontal tissue damage detected during clinical and radiographic examination. Moreover, the treatment associated with periodontal damage resolution was also determined. Of the 295 traumatized teeth, 184 had periodontal damage (62.3%) and from this total, crown-root fractures with invasion of biological width were found in 42% of the cases, followed by bone injury (30%). Regarding the periodontal treatment performed, periodontal surgery to re-establish the biological width prevailed between procedures with 39% of the cases. Conclusions: It could be concluded that Periodontics has an essential role in the multidisciplinary approach for the treatment of traumatized patients and that the conjunct work is important to re-establish the overall oral health.112154-15

This paper tries to explain the dynamics of Brazilian industrial catch-up in the last 60 years by discussing its background institutional conditions as well as its main macroeconomic features. After a brief introduction, the second section describes how after the institutional innovations introduced during the Vargas's and Kubitschek's administrations, a Brazilian version of the Developmental State was created, releasing the growth potential of the economy during the 1950s. The third section analyses the inflationary crisis and institutional inertia of the mid-1960s, and its solution through the introduction of a new of wave of institutional innovations and conflict management devices, which lead to the Brazilian growth miracle, until the debt crisis of early 1980s signaled its end. The fourth section analyses why the financial crisis, coupled with ineffective institutional changes and unsuccessful macroeconomic stabilization plans lead growth to a halt. It also includes an analysis of the pro-market reforms from the early 1990s onwards. The fifth section concludes the paper offering a brief sketch on how the analytical narrative fits the conceptual framework within which it was carried.

Although usually considered a non-pathogenic parasite in parasitological textbooks, Demodex folliculorum has been implicated as a causative agent for some dermatological conditions, such as rosacea-like eruptions and some types of blepharitis. Several anecdotal reports have demonstrated unequivocal tissue damage directly related to the presence of the parasite. However, this seems to be exceedingly rare, in contrast with the marked prevalence of this infestation. We have had the opportunity to observe one of such cases. A 38-year-old woman presented with rosacea-like papular lesions in her right cheek. Histopathological examination revealed granulomatous dermal inflammation with a well-preserved mite phagocytized by a multinucleated giant cell. This finding may be taken as an evidence for the pathogenicity of the parasite, inasmuch as it does not explain how such a common parasite is able to produce such a rare disease
