Real-time motion-based hand gestures recognition from time-of-flight video
The final publication is available at Springer via http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11265-015-1090-5This paper presents an innovative solution based on Time-Of-Flight (TOF)
video technology to motion patterns detection for real-time dynamic hand gesture
recognition. The resulting system is able to detect motion-based hand gestures getting
as input depth images. The recognizable motion patterns are modeled on the basis of
the human arm anatomy and its degrees of freedom, generating a collection of synthetic
motion patterns that is compared with the captured input patterns in order to finally
classify the input gesture. For the evaluation of our system a significant collection of
gestures has been compiled, getting results for 3D pattern classification as well as a
comparison with the results using only 2D informatio

Extensibility of adaptation capabilities in the CAIN content adaptation engine
Also published online by CEUR Workshop Proceedings (CEUR-WS.org, ISSN 1613-0073)This paper describes the extensibility mechanism
that has been incorporated to the CAIN Adaptation Engine, that
provides audiovisual content adaptation based on user
preferences, network capabilities and terminal limitations. The
integration of new adaptation modules needs no code
modifications in the core system, so it does not have to be
recompiled for adding or modifying adaptation modules. This work is partially supported by the European Commission

Gradient high-performance thin-layer chromatography for characterizing complex hydrocarbon-containing products
Classic saturates, aromatics, resins, and asphaltenes (SARA) analysis has long enabled the chromatographic separation of complex hydrocarbon-containing products into these four families. This simplification often does not provide sufficient or correct information on the relationship between the composition of the products and the process variables studied. The obtention of profiles by gradient automated multiple development (AMD) is an interesting alternative to obtain extended SARA separations with increasing level of complexity for heavy petroleum products that adequately represent the entirety of the sample. An optimized 20-step gradient based on tetrahydrofuran (THF)‒dichloromethane‒n-heptane over a total migration distance of 83 mm is proposed here to characterize all types of heavy oil products. The combination of ultraviolet (UV)–densitometry (at 201, 228, and 273 nm), fluorescence detection by intensity changes using berberine cation, together with on-plate recording of UV spectra of separated peaks and the comparison with those of standards, allow for a deep characterization of chemical families. In the apolar zone of the chromatogram saturates, naphthenes, naphteno-aromatics, alkyl-aromatics, and aromatics with different degrees of condensation are detected. The use of THF, both in the plate precleaning stage and in the first stages of the gradient, is responsible for the satisfactory resolution of the resins in the polar zone. AMD chromatographic zones can be related to peaks from hydrocarbon groups in classical SARA. The application of this gradient to different types of products allowed for the relation of the profiles of bitumen to their origin, differentiation of the resin part trapped in asphaltenes, control performance of deasphalting in hydrorefining products, and the control of the composition of base oils
Reliability of four methods for the diagnosis of acute infection by Epstein-Barr virus
We studied the reliability of new indirect tests in the diagnosis of acute infection by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). Studied for all samples were method 1, the heterophil antibodies (Abs) (Monolatex, Biokit, Germany); method 2, the IgM Abs to EBV with ELISA tests (antigen pools, Enzygnost, Behring-werke, Germany); method 3, EA (Biotest Diagnostics, Germany); and method 4, the IgG avidity test. The reliability of the four tests for the detection of primary infection by EBV was: sensitivity (method 1: 89.1%; method 2: 100%; method 3: 79.7%; method 4: 99%); specificity (method 1: 98%; method 2: 100%; method 3: 84%; method 4: 100%); positive predictive value (method 1: 97.6%; method 2: 100%; method 3: 73.6%; method 4: 100%), and negative predictive value (method 1: 90.7%; method 2: 100%; method 3: 84%; method 4: 99%). The IgG avidity test (method 4) is simple and automated in the laboratory and is very useful for ascertaining, from a single sample, the time since infection. It is criteria of recent primoinfection higher levels than 55% of IgG with low avidity for the antigen. The investigation of the Abs to antigen pools (method 2) by ELISA of virus had a high reliability, but the investigation of heterophil Abs by latex (method 1) and the Abs IgM to EA (method 2) were lacking in sensibility regarding their use in the diagnosis of the primoinfection
Sepsis por escherichia coli de inicio infrecuente en paciente con linfoma de células T y NK: Sepsis by escherichia coli of uncommon starting in patient with T and NK cell lymphoma
Sepsis occurs in the presence of an infectious focus; in this case by Escherichia coli (E. coli), that toxins can cause severe damage to the organism's functionality and morphology, being worsened in patients with diseases that affect the immune system; as is this case in the presence of hematological malignancy. A 42-year-old female patient with a diagnosis of T-NK non-Hodgkin lymphoma presented with a necrotic plaque on the palate, temperature above 38 ° C, respiratory rate exceeding 20 breaths per minute, and heart rate exceeding 90 beats per minute. , on examination of a positive pharyngeal culture for E. coli, negative urine culture, confirming a pharyngeal infectious starting point; Treat with amikacin endovenously for 7 days with good response to antibiotic therapy. An infrequent case is reported for this type of bacteria in the oral area and a review of the subject.
(TGr1.41, T108, T25/99 y T11) frente a Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. asparagi
tratadas no inoculadas.Peer reviewe

Genetic inactivation and pharmacological blockade of sigma-1 receptors prevent paclitaxel-induced sensory-nerve mitochondrial abnormalities and neuropathic pain in mice
Background
Paclitaxel, a widely-used antineoplastic drug, produces a painful peripheral neuropathy that in rodents is associated with peripheral-nerve mitochondrial alterations. The sigma-1 receptor (σ1R) is a ligand-regulated molecular chaperone involved in mitochondrial calcium homeostasis and pain hypersensitivity. This receptor plays a key role in paclitaxel-induced neuropathic pain, but it is not known whether it also modulates mitochondrial abnormalities.
In this study, we used a mouse model of paclitaxel-induced neuropathic pain to test the involvement of the σ1R in the mitochondrial abnormalities associated with paclitaxel, by using genetic (σ1R knockout mice) and pharmacological (σ1R antagonist) approaches. Results
Paclitaxel administration to wild-type (WT) mice produced cold- and mechanical-allodynia, and an increase in the frequency of swollen and vacuolated mitochondria in myelinated A-fibers, but not in C-fibers, of the saphenous nerve. Behavioral and mitochondrial alterations were marked at 10 days after paclitaxel-administration and had resolved at day 28. In contrast, paclitaxel treatment did not induce allodynia or mitochondrial abnormalities in σ1R knockout mice. Moreover, the prophylactic treatment of WT mice with BD-1063 also prevented the neuropathic pain and mitochondrial abnormalities induced by paclitaxel. Conclusions
These results suggest that activation of the σ1R is necessary for development of the sensory nerve mitochondrial damage and neuropathic pain produced by paclitaxel. Therefore, σ1R antagonists might have therapeutic value for the prevention of paclitaxel-induced neuropathy. This study was partially supported by grant P11-CTS-7649 and grant CTS-109 from Junta de AndalucÃa, FEDER funds, a grant from Esteve, and a grant from the Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial (NeoGenius Pharma project).
