Using the First Principal Component as a Core Inflation Indicator

This paper investigates the consequences of non-stationarity for the principal components analysis and suggests a data transformation that allows obtaining smoother series for the first principal component to be used as a core inflation indicator. The paper also introduces a theoretical model, which allows interpreting core inflation as a common stochastic trend to the year-on-year rates of change of the price indices of the basic CPI items. Finally, it is shown that the first principal component computed in real time meets the evaluation criteria introduced in Marques et al. (2000).

Renovação da plataforma de contratação eletrónica - nextVISION

O seguinte relatório descreve o trabalho desenvolvido no estágio, que se encontra incluído no plano de estudos do Mestrado de Engenharia de Software e que é uma condição necessária para a conclusão do curso. Este estágio, com duração de nove meses, foi realizado na empresa PrimeIT, sendo apoiado e aceite pela Escola Superior de Tecnologia do Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal. Sendo a PrimeIT uma empresa de consultoria em tecnologia, que oferece serviços de outsourcing, o estagiário foi alocado como trabalhador externo na empresa Vortal, onde os nove meses de estágio foram passados a desenvolver uma plataforma de contratação eletrónica denominada nextVISION. Estas entidades (Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal, PrimeIT e Vortal) proporcionaram-me a possibilidade de desenvolver um trabalho prático de aplicação dos temas abordados durante a minha formação. Além de adquirir novas competências técnicas, o projeto em que fiquei integrado permitiu-me desenvolver competências ao nível do trabalho em equipa, interagindo e comunicando com outros colegas, existindo uma mútua troca de conhecimento, e permitindo ainda que pudesse tomar decisões autónomas e bem fundamentadas. Esta experiência foi fundamental para desenvolver hábitos de trabalho e sentido de responsabilidade profissional.The following report describes the work developed in the internship, which is included in the study plans of the master degree in Software Engineering, and that is a necessary requirement for the completion of the course. This internship, lasting nine months, was held at the company PrimeIT, being supported and accepted by the Escola Superior de Tecnologia of the Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal. PrimeIT is a technology consulting company that offers outsourcing services. The intern was allocated as an outside worker at the company Vortal, where the nine months of internship were spent developing an electronic contracting platform called nextVISION. These entities (Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal, PrimeIT and Vortal) provided me with the possibility of developing a practical application of knowledge acquired during my training. Besides further developing my technical knowledge, the project I integrated enabled me to develop skills in terms of teamwork, interacting and communicating with other colleagues, and there was a mutual exchange of knowledge that allowed me to make autonomous and well-informed decisions. This experience was fundamental to develop work habits and a sense of professional responsibility

Royalties do petróleo e eleições municipais : o caso brasileiro

Foram analisadas as eleições municipais dos anos de 2008 e 2012 para os municípios que recebem royalties derivados da exploração de petróleo e gás. Artigos anteriores analisaram o impacto de outras variáveis nas reeleições regionais em vários países, e, com base nesses estudos, este trabalho procurou investigar os efeitos da inclusão da variável royalties, utilizando, para isso, um modelo de probabilidade. Os resultados apontam para a existência de relações positivas entre a quantidade de royalties recebida pelos municípios e a probabilidade de reeleição dos prefeitos, e também para efeitos positivos relacionados à elevação das receitas derivadas da exploração de petróleo e gás na reeleição dos prefeitos

ROAZ and ROAZ II Autonomous Surface Vehicle Design and Implementation

International Lifesaving Congress 2007, La Coruna, Spain, December, 2007The design and implementation of the ROAZ and ROAZ II autonomous surface vehicles (ASV) is presented. These systems were developed at Autonomous Systems Lab, ISEP/IPP – Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto under a research program in marine robotics. With multiple applications either in river and estuarine environments or in the sea, the system applications in search and rescue operations are addressed and were taken in consideration for the overall system design. Mechanical design issues are discussed. Hardware, software and implementation status are described along with the control and navigation system architecture. The real time vision processing system is described and results are presented in operational scenario

A DMS to Support Industrial Process Decision-Making: a contribution under Industry 4.0

This paper presents the development of an Information System (IS) an automotive manufacturing.The system was developed to reduce waste and increase productivity, through better decision-making. The used methodology to implement it was the Business Process Management (BPM). A DMS (Document Management System) for decision making support was built, reducing the action time and providing faster maintenance of all needed data. As a result, the users time decision making and the administrator maintenance was reduced by a total of 26 minutes, corresponding to a 1.61 € reduction per unit built, which means an efficiency of 41%. QoS em servidores HTTP Apache

Os serviços baseados na Internet têm registado um crescimento contínuo e acelerado nos últimos anos, dependendo o seu sucesso, em larga medida, da qualidade de serviço prestada. A sociedade moderna tornou-se fortemente dependente da Internet e dos vários serviços nela disponibilizados. Nesta dissertação é abordado o problema da qualidade de serviço em servidores HTTP, com particular ênfase no servidor HTTP Apache. Neste trabalho, é definido e implementado um sistema original de controlo em cadeia fechada de QoS, baseado nas metodologias da teoria de controlo, demonstrando-se a sua robustez, estabilidade e capacidade para gerir os recursos de forma dinâmica. Por fim, é comprovada a capacidade do sistema realizar a diferenciação de serviço (DiffServ) entre duas classes de sítios: Premium e Outros. Esta qualidade é comprovada para os objetivos erro nulo, rejeição de perturbações e seguimento de referência; Abstract: QoS for Apache HTTP server Internet-based services have registered a continuous and rapid growth in recent years, depending their success to a large extent on the provided quality of service. Modern society has become heavily dependent on the Internet and the various services it provides. This thesis addresses the issue of quality of service in HTTP servers, with particular emphasis on the Apache HTTP server. In this work, a closed-loop system with QoS, based on control theory methodologies, is defined and implemented. The proposed system robustness, stability and ability to manage resources dynamically is shown. Finally, it is confirmed the system’s ability to provide differentiated services (DiffServ) between two classes of sites: Premium and Others. Da justa causa de despedimento por comportamentos extralaborais

Ao longo da presente dissertação iremos analisar alguns comportamentos levados a cabo pelos trabalhadores fora do tempo e/ou do local de trabalho e sem relação direta com a sua atividade laboral, de forma a perceber qual a relevância destes comportamentos para efeitos de justa causa de despedimento. A regra tem de ser a da irrelevância dos denominados comportamentos extralaborais para efeitos disciplinares no âmbito da relação laboral, uma vez que os trabalhadores gozam do direito à reserva da intimidade da vida privada, enquanto direito de personalidade e constitucionalmente protegido. No entanto, tendo em consideração as particularidades do contrato de trabalho e as obrigações que daí advêm para os trabalhadores, nomeadamente as designadas obrigações acessórias, certos comportamentos da vida privada podem justificar a aplicação de sanções disciplinares e, em último caso, o despedimento com justa causa. Assim, com este trabalho pretendemos estudar esses comportamentos extralaborais e perceber de que forma podem representar violações contratuais suficientemente gravosas para justificarem o despedimento dos trabalhadores.During the course of the present dissertation we will analyze some conducts by employees outside their working hours and/or outside their work place without direct connection with their working activity, in order to understand what is the relevance of these conducts for the purpose of just cause for dismissal. The rule has to be the irrelevance of the conducts of the private life of the employees for the purpose of just cause for dismissal, because the employees have a right to privacy, as a personality and constitutionally protected right. However, taking into account the specifics of the employment contract and the obligations that arise from there to the employees, namely the acessory obligations, certain conducts of the private life may justify the enforcement of discilplinary penalties and, ultimately, the dismissal with just cause. Thereby, with this paper we want to study these conducts outside the working domain and understand in which way they can represent contractual breaches serious enough to justify the dismissal of employees

Improving The Order Fulfilment Process At A Metalwork Company

This article describes the 14 measures implemented at a company in the metalwork sector with a view to improving its order fulfilment process. Based on Lean thinking, each of the actions, as well as their potential impact on the process, is explained. Despite the constraints encountered during implementation, and the fact that manufacturing processes are invariably different, the overall results achieved were satisfactory. As a result of the interventions, internal functions were revised and processes simplified. There was also a reduction of 25% in budgeting time, as well as an improvement in communication systems and production management. One additionally was achieved the reorganization of storage spaces, a reduction in logistic operation times of about 20% and a decrease in the time spent accessing tools in near 61%. Far more important than the first results obtained is the company’s current commitment to the pursuance of these measures, allowing the different actions to generate synergies and produce improvements, which will undoubtedly set the company on the course of Lean culture.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Ocean literacy to promote sustainable development goals and agenda 2030 in coastal communities

This project directly promotes the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the implementation of 2030 Agenda developed by the United Nations and adopted by most countries in the world, which define the priorities and aspirations for global sustainable development until the year of 2030, mobilizing a world-wide effort to meet a common set of goals and objectives. This paper contributes to understanding how ocean literacy, and specifically the EmBio research project, fits into the international agenda for sustainable development and the SDGs and its targets. Through an analysis and a comparison between the project EmBio and the SDGs, it was possible to identify connections on 11 out of 17 goals and 31 out of 169 targets, with a special emphasis on the SDG 14—Life Below Water. The results highlight the relevance of this project and, especially, ocean literacy for the accomplishment of the SDGs.publishersversionpublishe
