    Integrating spatial and spectral information for automatic feature identification in high -resolution remotely sensed images

    This research used image objects, instead of pixels, as the basic unit of analysis in high-resolution imagery. Thus, not only spectral radiance and texture were used in the analysis, but also spatial context. Furthermore, the automated identification of attributed objects is potentially useful for integrating remote sensing with a vector-based GIS.;A study area in Morgantown, WV was chosen as a site for the development and testing of automated feature extraction methods with high-resolution data. In the first stage of the analysis, edges were identified using texture. Experiments with simulated data indicated that a linear operator identified curved and sharp edges more accurately than square shaped operators. Areas with edges that formed a closed boundary were used to delineate sub-patches. In the region growing step, the similarities of all adjacent subpatches were examined using a multivariate Hotelling T2 test that draws on the classes\u27 covariance matrices. Sub-patches that were not sufficiently dissimilar were merged to form image patches.;Patches were then classified into seven classes: Building, Road, Forest, Lawn, Shadowed Vegetation, Water, and Shadow. Six classification methods were compared: the pixel-based ISODATA and maximum likelihood approaches, field-based ECHO, and region based maximum likelihood using patch means, a divergence index, and patch probability density functions (pdfs). Classification with the divergence index showed the lowest accuracy, a kappa index of 0.254. The highest accuracy, 0.783, was obtained from classification using the patch pdf. This classification also produced a visually pleasing product, with well-delineated objects and without the distracting salt-and-pepper effect of isolated misclassified pixels. The accuracies of classification with patch mean, pixel based maximum likelihood, ISODATA and ECHO were 0.735, 0.687, 0.610, and 0.605, respectively.;Spatial context was used to generate aggregate land cover information. An Urbanized Rate Index, defined based on the percentage of Building and Road area within a local window, was used to segment the image.     Exploiting Trust Degree for Multiple-Antenna User Cooperation

    For a user cooperation system with multiple antennas, we consider a trust degree based cooperation techniques to explore the influence of the trustworthiness between users on the communication systems. For the system with two communication pairs, when one communication pair achieves its quality of service (QoS) requirement, they can help the transmission of the other communication pair according to the trust degree, which quantifies the trustworthiness between users in the cooperation. For given trust degree, we investigate the user cooperation strategies, which include the power allocation and precoder design for various antenna configurations. For SISO and MISO cases, we provide the optimal power allocation and beamformer design that maximize the expected achievable rates while guaranteeing the QoS requirement. For a SIMO case, we resort to semidefinite relaxation (SDR) technique and block coordinate update (BCU) method to solve the corresponding problem, and guarantee the rank-one solutions at each step. For a MIMO case, as MIMO is the generalization of MISO and SIMO, the similarities among their problem structures inspire us to combine the methods from MISO and SIMO together to efficiently tackle MIMO case. Simulation results show that the trust degree information has a great effect on the performance of the user cooperation in terms of the expected achievable rate, and the proposed user cooperation strategies achieve high achievable rates for given trust degree.Comment: 15 pages,9 figures, to appear in IEEE Transactions on Wireless communication

    A Fuzzy-Based Multimedia Content Retrieval Method Using Mood Tags and Their Synonyms in Social Networks

    The preferences of Web information purchasers are rapidly evolving. Cost-effectiveness is now becoming less regarded than cost-satisfaction, which emphasizes the purchaser’s psychological satisfaction. One method to improve a user’s cost-satisfaction in multimedia content retrieval is to utilize the mood inherent in multimedia items. An example of applications using this method is SNS (Social Network Services), which is based on folksonomy, but its applications encounter problems due to synonyms. In order to solve the problem of synonyms in our previous study, the mood of multimedia content is represented with arousal and valence (AV) in Thayer’s two-dimensional model as its internal tag. Although some problems of synonyms could now be solved, the retrieval performance of the previous study was less than that of a keyword-based method. In this paper, a new method that can solve the synonym problem is proposed, while simultaneously maintaining the same performance as the keyword-based approach. In the proposed method, a mood of multimedia content is represented with a fuzzy set of 12 moods of the Thayer model. For the analysis, the proposed method is compared with two methods, one based on AV value and the other based on keyword. The analysis results demonstrate that the proposed method is superior to the two methods

    Differences in the Tongue Features of Primary Dysmenorrhea Patients and Controls over a Normal Menstrual Cycle

    Background. The aims of this study were to investigate the relationships between tongue features and the existence of menstrual pain and to provide basic information regarding the changes in tongue features during a menstrual cycle. Methods. This study was conducted at the Kyung Hee University Medical Center. Forty-eight eligible participants aged 20 to 29 years were enrolled and assigned to two groups according to their visual analogue scale (VAS) scores. Group A included 24 females suffering from primary dysmenorrhea (PD) caused by qi stagnation and blood stasis syndrome with VAS ≥ 4. In contrast, Group B included 24 females with few premenstrual symptoms and VAS < 4. All participants completed four visits (menses-follicular-luteal-menses phases), and the tongue images were taken by using a computerized tongue image analysis system (CTIS). Results. The results revealed that the tongue coating color value and the tongue coating thickness in the PD group during the menstrual phase were significantly lower than those of the control group (P=0.031 and P=0.029, resp.). Conclusions. These results suggest that the tongue features obtained from the CTIS may serve as a supplementary means for the differentiation of syndromes and the evaluation of therapeutic effect and prognosis in PD.     Non-Terrestrial Networks for UAVs: Base Station Service Provisioning Schemes with Antenna Tilt

    By focusing on unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communications in non-terrestrial networks (NTNs), this paper provides a guideline on the appropriate base station (BS) service provisioning scheme with considering the antenna tilt angle of BS. Specifically, two service provisioning schemes are considered including the inclusive-service BS (IS-BS) scheme, which makes BSs serve both ground users (GUs) and aerial users (AUs) (i.e., UAVs) simultaneously, and the exclusive-service BS (ES-BS) scheme, which has BSs for GUs and BSs for AUs. By considering the antenna tilt angle-based channel gain, we derive the network outage probability for both IS-BS and ES-BS schemes, and show the existence of the optimal tilt angle that minimizes the network outage probability after analyzing the conflict impact of the antenna tilt angle. We also analyze the impact of various network parameters, including the ratio of GUs to total users and densities of total and interfering BSs, on the network outage probability. Finally, we analytically and numerically show in which environments each service provisioning scheme can be superior to the other one

    Clinical disease characteristics according to karyotype in Turner syndrome

    Purpose : Turner syndrome (TS) is a disorder in which various anomalies can be accompanied, especially cardiovascular, renal, thyroid and auditory problems. The aim of this study is to identify the incidence of these disorders in patients with TS according to karyotype. Methods : We reviewed medical records of 90 patients with TS diagnosed by chromosomal analysis in 4 hospitals from Jan 1998 to Dec 2007. We evaluated these cases by prepared protocol of 4 medical problems. Results : The distribution of karyotype was 45,X (47.8&#37;), mosaic pattern (34.4&#37;) and structural aberration group (17.8 &#37;). Renal anomalies, cardiovascular anomalies, thyroid disorders and auditory problems are accompanied in 4.4&#37;, 10.0 &#37;, 11.1&#37; and 5.6&#37;, respectively. 45,X group had renal anomalies (7.0&#37;), cardiovascular anomalies (18.6&#37;), thyroid disorders (9.3&#37;) and auditory problems (11.6&#37;). Mosaic group had renal anomalies (3.2&#37;), thyroid disorders (12.9&#37;), no cardiovascular anomalies and auditory problems. Structural aberration group had cardiovascular anomalies (6.3&#37;), thyroid disorders (12.5&#37;) and no other 2 problems. Patients with 45,X group had a significant higher incidence of cardiovascular anomalies (P&#61;0.025). Conclusion : Our results indicate that there are differences clinically according to karyotype of TS, especially in incidence of cardiovascular anomalies

    Current Researches on the Methods of Diagnosing Sasang Constitution: An Overview

    Sasang constitution diagnosis has traditionally been conducted by a Sasang constitutional medicine (SCM) doctor who examines the external appearance, temperament and various symptoms of an individual and then collectively analyzes this information to determine their own constitutions. However, because this process is subjective and not quantitative, many researchers have been attempting to develop objective and reasonable methods of determining constitutions. In Korea, even though a wide range of research regarding SCM has been conducted, most of the work has not been revealed internationally. So in this review, the authors have searched the Journal of Sasang Constitutional Medicine, as well as other Korean domestic journal databases and Pubmed for research regarding modernized constitution diagnosis methods so to provide the understanding of current research state and outlook for future research

    Temperament and Character Profiles of Sasang Typology in an Adult Clinical Sample

    The purpose of this study was to examine the biopsychological personality profiles of traditional Korean Sasang typology based on the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI) in a Korean adult clinical sample. A total of 97 adults completed the Korean version of the TCI. The participants were classified as one of three traditional Korean Sasang types (31 So-Yang, 41 Tae-Eum, 25 So-Eum) by three specialists in Sasang typology. The seven dimensions of TCI were compared between the different Sasang types using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and profile analysis. There were no significant differences in age, gender and education across the Sasang types. The TCI profile for each of the Sasang types was significantly different (profile analysis, df = 5.038, F = 3.546, P = .004). There were significant differences in the temperament dimensions of Novelty Seeking (F = 3.43, P = .036) and Harm Avoidance (F = 5.43, P = .006) among the Sasang types. The Novelty Seeking score of the So-Yang type (31.90 ± 9.87) was higher than that of the So-Eum type (25.24 ± 9.21; P = .019) while the So-Eum type (44.64 ± 8.47) scored higher on the Harm Avoidance score compared to the So-Yang type (35.16 ± 11.50; P = .003). There were no significant differences in the temperament dimension of Reward Dependence and Persistence, and the three character dimensions of Self-Directedness, Cooperativeness and Self-Transcendence. Results demonstrated distinct temperament traits associated with traditional Korean Sasang types using an objective biopsychological personality inventory. With further study, the Sasang typology may lead to enhanced clinical safety and efficacy as part of personalized medicine with traditional medicine
