A Qualitative Understanding of the Impact of Internet Banking in Relationships Between Banks and Commercial Customers
The importance of developing and fostering relationships with customers has long been regarded as important within services marketing (Berry, 1983) and also within B2B relationships (Ford, 1990). In the 1980s and 90s, a shift in marketing focus has seen an increased emphasis on Relationship Marketing (Morgan and Hunt, 1994). This paper reviews the results and implications of recent exploratory research conducted with a small sample of Australian business bank customers. Despite it being expected that the perception of technology would impact on the relationship, it was actually clear through the interviews that it was the perception of the relationship, which led respondents to develop a perception of the technology. An exploratory study, further research ideas are provided at the conclusion of this paper

Technology has dramatically altered the way businesses operate in a Business-to-Business (B2B) context and has had profound influences on services, altering the way services are delivered (Bitner, Ostrom & Meuter, 2002). The increased use of self-service technologies (SSTs) could have a great impact on B2B relationships, yet there is little understanding of this in the literature. In the 1980s and 90s, a shift in marketing focus has seen an increased emphasis on Relationship Marketing (Morgan and Hunt, 1994). This conceptual paper seeks to explain relationship marketing, and the importance of building trust in order to develop a relationship marketing approach. Many authors stress the importance of trust in relationships, however, does not consider the impact of self service technologies on relationships. Research into display sharing techniques for distributed computing environments
The X-based Display Sharing solution for distributed computing environments is described. The Display Sharing prototype includes the base functionality for telecast and display copy requirements. Since the prototype implementation is modular and the system design provided flexibility for the Mission Control Center Upgrade (MCCU) operational consideration, the prototype implementation can be the baseline for a production Display Sharing implementation. To facilitate the process the following discussions are presented: Theory of operation; System of architecture; Using the prototype; Software description; Research tools; Prototype evaluation; and Outstanding issues. The prototype is based on the concept of a dedicated central host performing the majority of the Display Sharing processing, allowing minimal impact on each individual workstation. Each workstation participating in Display Sharing hosts programs to facilitate the user's access to Display Sharing as host machine
Applicability of ERTS-1 to lineament and photogeologic mapping in Montana: Preliminary report
A lineament map prepared from a mosaic of western Montana shows about 85 lines not represented on the state geologic map, including elements of a northeast-trending set through central western Montana which merit ground truth checking and consideration in regional structural analysis. Experimental fold annotation resulted in a significant local correction to the state geologic map. Photogeologic mapping studies produced only limited success in identification of rock types, but they did result in the precise delineation of a late Cretaceous or early Tertiary volcanic field (Adel Mountain field) and the mapping of a connection between two granitic bodies shown on the state map. Imagery was used successfully to map clay pans associated with bentonite beds in gently dipping Bearpaw Shale. It is already apparent that ERTS imagery should be used to facilitate preparation of a much needed statewide tectonic map and that satellite imagery mapping, aided by ground calibration, provides and economical means to discover and correct errors in the state geologic map

Cool Jupiters greatly outnumber their toasty siblings : Occurrence rates from the Anglo-Australian Planet Search

All rights reserved.Our understanding of planetary systems different to our own has grown dramatically in the past 30 yr. However, our efforts to ascertain the degree to which the Solar system is abnormal or unique have been hindered by the observational biases inherent to the methods that have yielded the greatest exoplanet hauls. On the basis of such surveys, one might consider our planetary system highly unusual - but the reality is that we are only now beginning to uncover the true picture. In this work, we use the full 18-yr archive of data from the Anglo-Australian Planet Search to examine the abundance of 'cool Jupiters' - analogues to the Solar system's giant planets, Jupiter and Saturn. We find that such planets are intrinsically far more common through the cosmos than their siblings, the hot Jupiters.We find that the occurrence rate of such 'cool Jupiters' is 6.73 +2.09 -1.13 per cent, almost an order of magnitude higher than the occurrence of hot Jupiters (at 0.84 +0.70 -0.20 per cent). We also find that the occurrence rate of giant planets is essentially constant beyond orbital distances of ~1 au. Our results reinforce the importance of legacy radial velocity surveys for the understanding of the Solar system's place in the cosmos.Peer reviewe
Stationarity, soft ergodicity, and entropy in relativistic systems
Recent molecular dynamics simulations show that a dilute relativistic gas
equilibrates to a Juettner velocity distribution if ensemble velocities are
measured simultaneously in the observer frame. The analysis of relativistic
Brownian motion processes, on the other hand, implies that stationary
one-particle distributions can differ depending on the underlying
time-parameterizations. Using molecular dynamics simulations, we demonstrate
how this relativistic phenomenon can be understood within a deterministic model
system. We show that, depending on the time-parameterization, one can
distinguish different types of soft ergodicity on the level of the one-particle
distributions. Our analysis further reveals a close connection between time
parameters and entropy in special relativity. A combination of different
time-parameterizations can potentially be useful in simulations that combine
molecular dynamics algorithms with randomized particle creation, annihilation,
or decay processes.Comment: 4 page
Observations of T Tauri Disks at Sub-AU Radii: Implications for Magnetospheric Accretion and Planet Formation
We determine inner disk sizes and temperatures for four solar-type (1-2
M) classical T Tauri stars (AS 207A, V2508 Oph, AS 205A, and PX Vul)
using 2.2 m observations from the Keck Interferometer. Nearly
contemporaneous near-IR adaptive optics imaging photometry, optical photometry,
and high-dispersion optical spectroscopy are used to distinguish contributions
from the inner disks and central stars in the interferometric observations. In
addition, the spectroscopic and photometric data provide estimates of stellar
properties, mass accretion rates, and disk co-rotation radii. We model our
interferometric and photometric data in the context of geometrically flat
accretion disk models with inner holes, and flared disks with puffed-up inner
walls. Models incorporating puffed-up inner disk walls generally provide better
fits to the data, similar to previous results for higher-mass Herbig Ae stars.
Our measured inner disk sizes are larger than disk truncation radii predicted
by magnetospheric accretion models, with larger discrepancies for sources with
higher mass accretion rates. We suggest that our measured sizes correspond to
dust sublimation radii, and that optically-thin gaseous material may extend
further inward to the magnetospheric truncation radii. Finally, our inner disk
measurements constrain the location of terrestrial planet formation as well as

Neural correlates of executive function and working memory in the 'at risk mental state'
Background and Aims: People with âprodromalâ symptoms have a very high risk of developing psychosis. We used functional MRI to examine the neurocognitive basis of this vulnerability.
Method: Cross-sectional comparison of subjects with an ARMS (n=17), first episode schizophreniform psychosis (n=10) and healthy volunteers (n=15). Subjects were studied using functional MRI while they performed an overt verbal fluency task, a random movement generation paradigm and an N-Back working memory task.
Results: During an N-Back task the ARMS group engaged inferior frontal and posterior parietal cortex less than controls but more than the first episode group. During a motor generation task, the ARMS group showed less activation in the left inferior parietal cortex than controls, but greater activation than the first episode group. During verbal fluency using âEasyâ letters, the ARMS group demonstrated intermediate activation in the left inferior frontal cortex, with first episode groups showing least, and controls most, activation. When processing âHardâ letters, differential activation was evident in two left inferior frontal regions. In its dorsolateral portion, the ARMS group showed less activation than controls but more than the first episode group, while in the opercular part of the left inferior frontal gyrus / anterior insula activation was greatest in the first episode group, weakest in controls and intermediate in the ARMS group.
Conclusions: The ARMS is associated with abnormalities of regional brain function that are qualitatively similar to those in patients who have just developed psychosis but less severe
The declining representativeness of the British party system, and why it matters
In a recent article, Michael Laver has explained âWhy Vote-Seeking Parties May Make Voters Miserableâ. His model shows that, while ideological convergence may boost congruence between governments and the median voter, it can reduce congruence between the party system and the electorate as a whole. Specifically, convergence can increase the mean distance between voters and their nearest party. In this article we show that this captures the reality of todayâs British party system. Policy scale placements in British Election Studies from 1987 to 2010 confirm that the pronounced convergence during the past decade has left the Conservatives and Labour closer together than would be optimal in terms of minimising the policy distance between the average voter and the nearest major party. We go on to demonstrate that this comes at a cost. Respondents who perceive themselves as further away from one of the major parties in the system tend to score lower on satisfaction with democracy. In short, vote-seeking parties have left the British party system less representative of the ideological diversity in the electorate, and thus made at least some British voters miserable
