    The Unicellular State as a Point Source in a Quantum Biological System.

    A point source is the central and most important point or place for any group of cohering phenomena. Evolutionary development presumes that biological processes are sequentially linked, but neither directed from, nor centralized within, any specific biologic structure or stage. However, such an epigenomic entity exists and its transforming effects can be understood through the obligatory recapitulation of all eukaryotic lifeforms through a zygotic unicellular phase. This requisite biological conjunction can now be properly assessed as the focal point of reconciliation between biology and quantum phenomena, illustrated by deconvoluting complex physiologic traits back to their unicellular origins

    A systematic approach to cancer: evolution beyond selection.

    Cancer is typically scrutinized as a pathological process characterized by chromosomal aberrations and clonal expansion subject to stochastic Darwinian selection within adaptive cellular ecosystems. Cognition based evolution is suggested as an alternative approach to cancer development and progression in which neoplastic cells of differing karyotypes and cellular lineages are assessed as self-referential agencies with purposive participation within tissue microenvironments. As distinct self-aware entities, neoplastic cells occupy unique participant/observer status within tissue ecologies. In consequence, neoplastic proliferation by clonal lineages is enhanced by the advantaged utilization of ecological resources through flexible re-connection with progenitor evolutionary stages

    NASA has initiated planning for a technology development project for nuclear rocket propulsion systems for space explorer initiative (SEI) human and robotic missions to the moon and Mars. An interagency project is underway that includes the Department of Energy National Laboratories for nuclear technology development. The activities of the project planning team in FY 1990 and 1991 are summarized. The progress to date is discussed, and the project plan is reviewed. Critical technology issues were identified and include: (1) nuclear fuel temperature, life, and reliability; (2) nuclear system ground test; (3) safety; (4) autonomous system operation and health monitoring; and (5) minimum mass and high specific impulse

One program which has successfully integrated a strong liberal arts based program with an active clinical emphasis is the University of Arkansas at Little Rock\u27sHumanist as Mediator program This program is instructive in that it has achieved a high level of programmatic success and at the same time enjoys the support of participating faculty.     SONTRAC—a scintillating plastic fiber tracking detector for neutron and proton imaging spectroscopy

    SONTRAC (SOlar Neutron TRACking imager and spectrometer) is a conceptual instrument intended to measure the energy and incident direction of 20–150 MeV neutrons produced in solar flares. The intense neutron background in a low-Earth orbit requires that imaging techniques be employed to maximize an instrument’s signal-to-noise ratio. The instrument is comprised of mutually perpendicular, alternating layers of parallel, scintillating, plastic fibers that are viewed by optoelectronic devices. Two stereoscopic views of recoil proton tracks are necessary to determine the incident neutron’s direction and energy. The instrument can also be used as a powerful energetic proton imager. Data from a fully functional 3-d prototype are presented. Early results indicate that the instrument’s neutron energy resolution is approximately 10% with the neutron incident direction determined to within a few degrees

    Decadal Growth of Traffic Volume on US Highway 2 in Northwestern Montana

    We measured vehicle traffic volume at two locations on US Highway 2 along the southern boundary of Glacier National Park during 2012 and 2013 and then compared results to those collected during 1999 through 2001.  We show that traffic volumes have increased substantially in the 11 years between counts and that the increases are most dramatic during the hours in which grizzly bears (Ursus arctos) are most likely to cross the highway.  Over the preceding decade, grizzly bears have lost two hours of suitable crossing opportunity and will, should observed growth rates and traffic continue, lose an additional three hours within five years
