Multiple Sequence Alignment of Transmembrane Beta-Barrel Proteins
The two main types of transmembrane proteins are transmembrane alpha helices (TMAH)
and transmembrane beta-barrels (TMBB). From literature, we know that both are responsible for diverse biologically important functions. Since there is plenty of sequence and
structural data available on various TMAH proteins, many techniques have been developed
to analyze their sequence. On the contrary, not many TMBB proteins have been identified
or studied. One of the most powerful sequence analysis techniques used for identifying
and annotating the biological sequences is “Multiple Sequence Alignment” (MSA). It is
often used for phylogenetic analysis, identification of conserved regions in the sequences,
prediction of the topology of proteins, etc.
High-throughput sequencing methods generate huge volume of sequence data, but they
remain largely unannotated. Hence an MSA method for TMBB would be important for
sequence-based studies and identifying more of such proteins. In this thesis, we apply a
method called homology extension to the MSA and adjust the strategy applied by TMCoffee, a state of the art MSA method tested for TMAH, to make it suitable for TMBB
proteins. We focus on extensively evaluating this method and comparing it with popular
MSA tools
Variations on Graph Products and Vertex Partitions
In this thesis we investigate two graph products called double vertex graphs and complete double vertex graphs, and two vertex partitions called dominator partitions and rankings. We introduce a new graph product called the complete double vertex graph and study its properties. The complete double vertex graph is a natural extension of the Cartesian product and a generalization of the double vertex graph. We establish many properties of complete double vertex graphs, including results involving the chromatic number of a complete double vertex graph and the characterization of planar complete double vertex graphs. We also investigate the important problem of reconstructing the factors of double vertex graphs and complete double vertex graphs. We reconstruct G from double vertex graphs and complete double vertex graphs for different classes of graphs, including cubic graphs. Next, we look at the properties of dominator partitions of graphs. We characterize minimal dominator partitions of a graph G. This helps us to study the properties of the upper dominator partition number and establish bounds on the upper dominator partition number of different families of graphs, including trees. We also calculate the upper dominator partition number of certain classes of graphs, including paths and cycles, which is surprisingly difficult to calculate. Properties of rankings are studied in this thesis as well. We establish more properties of minimal rankings, including results related to permuting the labels of certain minimal rankings of a graph G. In addition, we investigate rankings of the Cartesian product of two complete graphs, also known as the rook\u27s graph. We establish bounds on the rank number of a rook\u27s graph and calculate its arank number using multiple results we obtain on minimal rankings of a rook\u27s graph

A Comparative Study to Evaluate the Effectiveness of Resisted Exercises Verses Antidepressant Medication in Young Adult Males Diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder
This study aims to compare the effectiveness of a combination of 12 weeks resisted exercises programme and antidepressant medication with 12 weeks of antidepressant medication alone.100 young adult males between the age range 18-39 years diagnosed with major depressive disorder using the ICD 10 criteria, were recruited for the study. 50 Subjects each were randomly assigned into either an experimental or a control group after baseline data was obtained, using the 17- item Hamilton depression rating scale (HDRS17). The experimental group underwent 12 weeks of resisted exercises along with their regular antidepressant medication and the control group had only antidepressant medication as intervention. Our objective was to investigate whether the mean change in (HDRS17) scores from baseline was greater after 12 weeks of resisted exercise when compared with antidepressant medication alone. This study concluded that combination of resisted exercise along with antidepressant medication is more effective than antidepressant medication alone in the treatment of major depressive disorders in young adult males. Key words - major depressive disorder, resisted exercise, antidepressants, 17- item Hamilton depression rating scal

Comparative Study of Homology Based Structure Prediction and Structure Validation Tools on Some Proteins from the bhlh family.
Comparative homology modeling has become an efficient and easy method for predicting the unknown three dimensional structure of a protein based on sequence alignment. The steps involved are template alignment, loop assignment, model building and model refinement. However, it was noticed that though the basic steps for modeling the protein was same, the results produced by different tools that is available varied, possibly due to the efficiency of the algorithm and other factors. Here, five homology modelling tools were used to compare the results for some proteins of the bhlh family. It was also noticed that structure validation tools had different results. To compare the results ProcheckRamchandran plot from PDBSum Generate and Ramchandran plot from SPDBV were used. The differing results were compared using simple statistical approach and the inference was obtained as patterns for the tools

The Efficacy of Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation Techniques in Improving Range of Motion and Strength: A Systematic Review
Background: Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) is a therapeutic approach widely used in rehabilitation to enhance range of motion (ROM) and muscle strength. By combining resistance, stretching, and contract-relax techniques, PNF aims to stimulate the neuromuscular system to facilitate functional movement patterns. While PNF has shown potential for improving ROM and strength in various patient populations, conflicting evidence necessitates a comprehensive review of its effectiveness.Method:A systematic search was conducted using electronic databases, including PubMed, Cochrane, Google Scholar, Medline, and BioMed Central. Search terms included "Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation," "PNF techniques," "range of motion," and "muscle strength." Studies published between 2014 and 2020 in English were included. Inclusion criteria focused on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) examining the effects of PNF on ROM and strength. Exclusion criteria included studies lacking a focus on these outcomes or without control groups. Data extraction adhered to PRISMA guidelines, and quality assessment was performed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool.Result: The initial search yielded 15,900 articles, narrowed to 10,900 upon refining the search period. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 14 RCTs were deemed eligible. These studies involved diverse interventions targeting various muscle groups, with sample sizes ranging from 9 to 40 participants. PNF interventions demonstrated improvements in both active and passive ROM as well as muscle strength in most studies, with variations based on technique, intensity, and duration. Conclusion: PNF techniques appear effective for enhancing ROM and muscle strength in various populations. However, heterogeneity in study designs, participant characteristics, and intervention protocols limits generalizability. Future research should standardize PNF protocols to establish evidence-based guidelines for clinical application. Additionally, factors such as therapist expertise, patient compliance, and baseline functional status should be considered to optimize outcomes
