Effective activation of antioxidant system by immune-relevant factors reversely correlates with apoptosis of Eisenia andrei coelomocytes
Oxidative stress is harmful to the microbes but also to the host, and may result in bystander damage or death. Because of this, respiratory burst triggered in phagocytes by pathogens is counteracted by production of antioxidative factors. The aim of this work was to examine effectiveness of the latter system in earthworms Eisenia andrei by induction of reactive oxygen species, lipofuscin and phenoloxidase by natural (LPS, zymosan, Micrococus luteus) and synthetic (phorbol ester, PMA) stimulants. The compounds impaired numbers, viability (increased apoptosis) and composition of coelomocytes, and triggered the antioxidant activity of catalase and selenium-dependent glutathione peroxidase. The natural pathogenic compounds, unlike PMA, strongly activated antioxidative responses that diminished cell apoptosis. Moreover, repeated exposure to the same or different pathogenic compounds did not induce respiratory burst exhausted phenotype showing that coelomocytes are constantly at bay to withstand numerous infections. The current study reveals importance and efficiency of the oxidative–antioxidative systems in annelids but also confirms its evolutionary conservatism and complexity even in lower taxa of the animal kingdom

A modified heterotopic heart transplantation in the rat - as an important model in experimental regeneration and replacement of the failing organ
The qualification of new knowledge is one of the oldest problems in experimental medicine that provides a link between fundamental discovery, hypothesis, ‘proof of concept’ preclinical studies and development of clinical trials. The biggest challenge in animal models is the proper evaluation of all the aspects that are crucial in specific studied pathologies as well as the prediction of their progression. The aim of this review was to describe and discuss the rat animal model of heart transplant. The rat model of heart transplantation is an excellent yet underestimated method of research of prevention, monitoring and treatment of acute and chronic, immune and nonimmune response to organ transplantation. Despite being a technically and logistically demanding model, it provides a tool for reproducible experiments with longterm animal survival and excellent graft survival
Shift schedule, work-family relationships, marital communication, job satisfaction and health among transport service shift workers
Objectives: Existing research has documented that shiftwork consequences may depend on the shift system parameters. Fast rotating systems (1-3 shifts of the same kind in a row) and day work have been found to be less disruptive biologically and socially than slower rotating systems and afternoon and night work. The aim of this study was to compare day workers and shift workers of different systems in terms of rotation speed and shifts worked with regard to work-family and family-work positive and negative spillover, marital communication style, job satisfaction and health. Material and Methods: Employees (N = 168) of the maintenance workshops of transportation service working different shift systems (day shift, weekly rotating 2 and 3‑shift system, and fast rotating 3-shift system) participated in the study. They completed the Work-Family Spillover Questionnaire, Marital Communication Questionnaire, Minnesota Job Satisfaction Questionnaire and the Physical Health Questionnaire (a part of the Standard Shiftwork Index). Results: The workers of quicker rotating 3-shift systems reported significantly higher scores of family-to-work facilitation (F(3, 165) = 4.175, p = 0.007) and a higher level of constructive style of marital communication (Engagement F(3, 165) = 2.761, p = 0.044) than the workers of slower rotating 2-shift systems. There were no differences between the groups of workers with regard to health and job satisfaction. Conclusions: A higher level of work–family facilitation and a more constructive style of marital communication were found among the workers of faster rotating 3-shift system when compared to the workers of a slower rotating 2-shift system (afternoon, night). This may indicate that the fast rotating shift system in contrary to the slower rotating one is more friendly for the work and family domains and for the relationship between them
Sceptycyzm wobec szczepień przeciwko COVID-19. Raport z badań wybranych komentarzy internetowych wraz z rekomendacjami w zakresie strategii komunikacyjnych
Raport stanowi w moim głębokim przekonaniu bardzo udaną
próbę połączenia zainteresowań i możliwości poznawczych
współczesnej lingwistyki i oczekiwań społeczeństwa, w tym
także decydentów z obszaru polityki i komunikacji społecznej.
Analiza dyskursów, a konkretnie toposów argumentacyjnych
z wypracowanych rekomendacji, Autorki
z obywatelską postawą i zaangażowaniem podejmują trud
on z zainteresowaniem osób odpowiedzialnych za jakość

Chiral doublers of heavy-light baryons
We discuss the consequences of the chiral doubling scenario for baryons built
of heavy and light quarks. In particular, we use the soliton description for
baryons, demonstrating why each heavy-light baryon should be accompanied by the
opposite parity partner. Our argumentation holds both for ordinary baryons and
for exotic heavy pentaquarks which are required by the symmetries of QCD to
appear in parity doublets, seperated by the mass shift of the chiral origin.
Interpreting the recently observed by BaBaR, CLEO and Belle charmed mesons with
assignment as the chiral partners of known and mesons,
allows us to estimate the parameters of the mesonic effective lagrangian, and
in consequence, estimate the masses of ground states and excited states of both
parities. In particular, we interpret the state recently reported by the H1
experiment at HERA as a chiral partner of yet
undiscovered ground state pentaquark .Comment: 10 pages, in v2 some typos corrected, references adde
Few-nucleon system dynamics studied via deuteron-deuteron collisions at 160 MeV
Four nucleon scattering at intermediate energies provides unique opportunities to study effects of the two key ingredients of the nuclear dynamics, the nucleon-nucleon P-wave (NNP-wave) and the three-nucleon force (3NF). This is possible only with systematic and precise data, in conjunction with exact theoretical calculations. Using the BINA detector at KVI Groningen, the Netherlands, a rich set of differential cross section of the 2H(d, dp)n breakup reaction at 160 MeV deuteron beam energy has been measured. Besides the three-body breakup, also cross sections of the 2H(d, 3He)n proton transfer reaction have been obtained. The data are compared to the recent calculations for the three-cluster breakup

Two-particle correlations in azimuthal angle and pseudorapidity in inelastic p + p interactions at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron
Results on two-particle ΔηΔϕ correlations in inelastic p + p interactions at 20, 31, 40, 80, and 158 GeV/c are presented. The measurements were performed using the large acceptance NA61/SHINE hadron spectrometer at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron. The data show structures which can be attributed mainly to effects of resonance decays, momentum conservation, and quantum statistics. The results are compared with the Epos and UrQMD models.ISSN:1434-6044ISSN:1434-605
