    Get PDF
Motivation: In recent years Albania has been an object of amassing research in many subject areas, including those related to economic sciences. Nevertheless, this growing scientific output has not been mapped from the bibliometric perspective. Thus, filling the identified gap in the body of knowledge is motivation for this study.Aim: The aim of the paper is to map the conceptual structure of research output in economic sciences with the focus on Albania as an object or a context of scientific inquiry in order to identify and explore leading and emerging topics. The study is oriented to answering the following research questions: (1) What are the leading topics/streams of scientific inquiry in the field? (2) What are the most up-to-date (emerging) topics/streams in the field? Results: Analysing co-occurrence of high-frequency keywords of Scopus-indexed publications including phrase ‘Albania’ in their titles, keywords and abstracts leads to identification of seven thematic clusters within the research field: (1) Albania as a transition economy, (2) economic aspects of migration, (3) Western Balkans studies, (4) education and innovation, (5) regional case and comparative studies, (6) economic growth and development, and (7) democratic transition and European integration. Moreover, the analysis reveals the following up-to-date topics attracting recently increasing attention of the academia: European integration, cointegration, consumer preferences, monetary policy, Western Balkans, higher education, performance, developing countries

Optimisation of the PointPillars network for 3D object detection in point clouds

In this paper we present our research on the optimisation of a deep neural network for 3D object detection in a point cloud. Techniques like quantisation and pruning available in the Brevitas and PyTorch tools were used. We performed the experiments for the PointPillars network, which offers a reasonable compromise between detection accuracy and calculation complexity. The aim of this work was to propose a variant of the network which we will ultimately implement in an FPGA device. This will allow for real-time LiDAR data processing with low energy consumption. The obtained results indicate that even a significant quantisation from 32-bit floating point to 2-bit integer in the main part of the algorithm, results in 5%-9% decrease of the detection accuracy, while allowing for almost a 16-fold reduction in size of the model.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, submitted to SPA 2020 conferenc

Macrophage-specific RAM11 monoclonal antibody cross-reacts with basal cells of stratified squamous epithelia

    Get PDF
RAM11 is a mouse monoclonal anti-rabbit macrophage antibody recognizing connective tissue and vascular (atheromatous tissue) macrophages. This study demonstrates a cross-reaction of RAM11 with an unknown antigen in rabbit normal epithelial cells. Formalin-fixed, paraffin sections of the New Zealand White rabbit normal skin, oral mucosa, esophagus, small intestine and lung were immunostained with RAM11 antibody followed by goat anti-mouse Cy-3-conjugated antiglobulin. RAM11-positive immunofluorescence was observed in basal layer cells of stratified squamous epithelia (skin, oral mucosa, esophagus). No RAM11 immunostaining was found in any cells of simple (intestinal, bronchial) epithelia. These findings show that basal cells of stratified squamous keratinized and non-keratinized epithelia of the rabbit express an antigenic epitope which is common with that of macrophage antigen recognized by RAM11 monoclonal antibody

Halophytes as components of lawns under different soil salinity and human impact in the health resort “Ciechocinek”

    Get PDF
The comparison was performed on the flora of lawns located in the vicinity of three brine concentration towers in the Spa Park in the town of Ciechocinek. It was found that a different level of saline water inflow into the soil and a different use of these lawns are the main causes of the observed differences in the number and the species composition of halophytes and glycophytes. The possibility of determining the differences in the intensity of human impact on the studied systems was discussed, as well as the value of the Environmental Sustainability Index was determined through emergy analysis. Energy flow diagrams were prepared for two basic greenery management methods and salt production, which best differentiates the flora of the studied lawns

The impact of information systems and non-financial information on company success

    Get PDF
This study aims to develop and evaluate a model that seeks to measure the impact of Accounting Information System Quality, Internal Control System Quality and Non-Financial Information Quality on company success (Decision-Making Success and Non-Financial Performance). This model is empirically tested with data obtained from the managers of 381 Portuguese companies. We use structural equation modelling in the analysis of causal relationships between different constructs. The results show that information and control systems quality (accounting and internal control) have a direct impact on Non-Financial Information Quality and an indirect impact on Decision-Making Success. The results also indicate that Quality Non-Financial Information does not contribute directly to Non-Financial Performance but contributes indirectly via DecisionMaking Success. The exploratory variables prove to be crucial for the companies’ Non-Financial Performance, accounting for its 62% variance. Previous research focuses primarily on financial information quality and financial performance. This study is the first to empirically prove that information and control systems contribute favourably to the transparency and value-relevance of non-financial information and, consequently, to business success.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Ytterbium nuclear-spin qubits in an optical tweezer array

We report on the realization of a fast, scalable, and high-fidelity qubit architecture, based on 171^{171}Yb atoms in an optical tweezer array. We demonstrate several attractive properties of this atom for its use as a building block of a quantum information processing platform. Its nuclear spin of 1/2 serves as a long-lived and coherent two-level system, while its rich, alkaline-earth-like electronic structure allows for low-entropy preparation, fast qubit control, and high-fidelity readout. We present a near-deterministic loading protocol, which allows us to fill a 10×\times10 tweezer array with 92.73(8)% efficiency and a single tweezer with 96.0(1.4)% efficiency. In the future, this loading protocol will enable efficient and uniform loading of target arrays with high probability, an essential step in quantum simulation and information applications. Employing a robust optical approach, we perform submicrosecond qubit rotations and characterize their fidelity through randomized benchmarking, yielding 5.2(5)×103\times 10^{-3} error per Clifford gate. For quantum memory applications, we measure the coherence of our qubits with T2T_2^*=3.7(4) s and T2T_2=7.9(4) s, many orders of magnitude longer than our qubit rotation pulses. We measure spin depolarization times on the order of tens of seconds and find that this can be increased to the 100 s scale through the application of a several-gauss magnetic field. Finally, we use 3D Raman-sideband cooling to bring the atoms near their motional ground state, which will be central to future implementations of two-qubit gates that benefit from low motional entropy.Comment: Fixed typos, refined scattering model, adds T1 dat
