Contudo, a literatura e a evidência empírica produzida é ainda, parca e diminuta.
The study on facial expression of emotion in Portugal stands out and highlights
in particular the scientific work produced by Professor Freitas-Magalhães. However,
literature and produced empirical evidence is still scant and small.
The objective of this graduation project is not only to follow the trend of
scientific research of the application of the analysis of emotion through facial to
different areas of knowledge, but also deepen and spread this area expression.
Thus, based on the characteristics usually associated with aggressiveness, we
intend to establish a parallel and possible correlation of certain markers in facial
expression acting as predictors of aggression. To this end, we analyzed video footage
and photographs of certain individuals when in a confrontational situation with third
parties (eg victims, judges, police)
Caries detection in panoramic dental x-ray images
The detection of dentalcaries,in a preliminar stage are of most importance. There is a long history of dental caries. Over a million years ago, hominids such as Australopithecus suffered from cavities. Archaeological evidence shows that tooth decay is an ancient disease dating far into prehistory. Skulls dating from a million years ago through the Neolithic period show signs of caries. The increase of caries during the Neolithic period may be attributed to the increase of plant foods containing carbohydrates. The beginning of rice cultivation in South Asia is also believed to have caused an increase in caries.
DentalCaries, alsoknownasdentaldecayortoothdecay, isdefinedasadisease of the hard tissues of the teeth caused by the action of microorganisms, found in plaque, onfermentablecarbohydrates(principallysugars). Attheindividuallevel, dental caries is a preventable disease. Given its dynamic nature the dental caries disease, once established, can be treated or reversed prior to significant cavitation taking place. There three types of dental caries [59], the first type is the Enamel Caries, that is preceded by the formation of a microbial dental plaque. Secondly the Dentinal Caries which begins with the natural spread of the process along the natural spread of great numbers of the dentinal tubules. Thirdly the Pulpal Caries that corresponds to the root caries or root surface caries. Primary diagnosis involves inspection of all visible tooth surfaces using a good light source, dental mirror and explorer. Dental radiographs (X-rays) may show dental caries before it is otherwise visible, particularly caries between the teeth. Large dental caries are often apparent to the naked eye, but smaller lesions can be difficult to identify. Visual and tactile inspection along with radiographs are employed frequently among dentists. At times, caries may be difficult to detect. Bacteriacanpenetratetheenameltoreachdentin, butthentheoutersurfacemaybe at first site intact. These caries, sometimes referred to as "hidden caries", in the preliminary stage X-ray are the only way to detect them, despite of the visual examinationofthetoothshowntheenamelintactorminimallyperforated. Without X-rays wouldn’t be possible to detect these problems until they had become severe and caused serious damage. [...
Robot orientation with histograms on MSL
One of the most important tasks on robot soccer is localization. The team robots should self-localize on the 18 x 12 meters soccer field. Since a few years ago the soccer field has increased and the corner posts were removed and that increased the localization task complexity. One important aspect to take care for a proper localization is to find out the robot orientation. This paper proposes a new technique to calculate the robot orientation. The proposed method consists of using a histogram of white-green transitions (to detect the lines on the field) to know the robot orientation. This technique does not take much computational time and proves to be very reliable.(undefined
From rapid prototyping to building in real scale: methodologies for upscaling additive manufacturing in architecture
The manufacture of architectural components mediated by computer-controlled Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies has highlighted several positive aspects of their application, namely by enabling customised design solutions and high-performance complex geometries. Taking into account the experience of the Advanced Ceramics R&D Lab, in the production of small- / medium- scale prototypes, this paper explores the main variables and constraints of the production of real-scale architectural components. This information points to a set of procedures that should be avoided and others that should be privileged, allowing to anticipate how AM can contribute for the achievement of high performance components on a large scale. This work has the financial support of the Project Lab2PT – Landscapes, Heritage and Territory laboratory – AUR/04509 and FCT through national founds and when applicable of the FEDER

New advances in vehicular technology and automotive engineering
An automobile was seen as a simple accessory of luxury in the early years of the past
century. Therefore, it was an expensive asset which none of the common citizen could
afford. It was necessary to pass a long period and waiting for Henry Ford to establish
the first plants with the series fabrication. This new industrial paradigm makes easy to
the common American to acquire an automobile, either for running away or for
working purposes. Since that date, the automotive research grown exponentially to the
levels observed in the actuality. Now, the automobiles are indispensable goods; saying
with other words, the automobile is a first necessity article in a wide number of
aspects of living: for workers to allow them to move from their homes into their
workplaces, for transportation of students, for allowing the domestic women in their
home tasks, for ambulances to carry people with decease to the hospitals, for
transportation of materials, and so on, the list don’t ends. The new goal pursued by the
automotive industry is to provide electric vehicles at low cost and with high reliability.
This commitment is justified by the oil’s peak extraction on 50s of this century and also
by the necessity to reduce the emissions of CO2 to the atmosphere, as well as to reduce
the needs of this even more valuable natural resource. In order to achieve this task and
to improve the regular cars based on oil, the automotive industry is even more
concerned on doing applied research on technology and on fundamental research of
new materials. The most important idea to retain from the previous introduction is to
clarify the minds of the potential readers for the direct and indirect penetration of the
vehicles and the vehicular industry in the today’s life. In this sequence of ideas, this
book tries not only to fill a gap by presenting fresh subjects related to the vehicular
technology and to the automotive engineering but to provide guidelines for future
research.
This book account with valuable contributions from worldwide experts of
automotive’s field. The amount and type of contributions were judiciously selected to
cover a broad range of research. The reader can found the most recent and
cutting-edge sources of information divided in four major groups: electronics (power,
communications, optics, batteries, alternators and sensors), mechanics (suspension
control, torque converters, deformation analysis, structural monitoring), materials (nanotechnology, nanocomposites, lubrificants, biodegradable, composites, structural
monitoring) and manufacturing (supply chains).
We are sure that you will enjoy this book and will profit with the technical and
scientific contents. To finish, we are thankful to all of those who contributed to this
book and who made it possible.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Minho MSL: a new generation of soccer robots
This paper describes the new generation of Minho Team robots since the last RoboCup participation. Robots have been rebuilt from top to bottom, keeping the essence of the previous generation, but lighter, faster, improved sight, new algorithms and new technology. The demands of RoboCup MSL are very high and a new breed of robots was necessary to cope with it. This paper describes a bottom-up view of the robot, the hardware used, the vision head, the high level software and some conclusions
A web portal for the certification of open source software
Lecture Notes in Computer Science 7791, 2014This paper presents a web portal for the certification of open source software. The portal aims at helping programmers in the internet age, when there are (too) many open source reusable libraries and tools available. Our portal offers programmers a web-based and easy setting to analyze and certify open source software, which is a crucial step to help programmers choosing among many available alternatives, and to get some guarantees before using one piece of software. The paper presents our first prototype of such web portal. It also describes in detail a domain specific language that allows programmers to describe with a high degree of abstraction specific open source software certifications. The design and implementation of this language is the core of the web portal.(undefined
This paper displays the present situation of indians living in the Greater São Paulo nowadays and deals with their linguistic reality
A framework for efficient execution of data parallel irregular applications on heterogeneous systems
Exploiting the computing power of the diversity of resources available on heterogeneous
systems is mandatory but a very challenging task. The diversity of architectures, execution
models and programming tools, together with disjoint address spaces and di erent
computing capabilities, raise a number of challenges that severely impact on application
performance and programming productivity. This problem is further compounded in the
presence of data parallel irregular applications.
This paper presents a framework that addresses development and execution of data
parallel irregular applications in heterogeneous systems. A uni ed task-based programming
and execution model is proposed, together with inter and intra-device scheduling,
which, coupled with a data management system, aim to achieve performance scalability
across multiple devices, while maintaining high programming productivity. Intradevice
scheduling on wide SIMD/SIMT architectures resorts to consumer-producer kernels,
which, by allowing dynamic generation and rescheduling of new work units, enable
balancing irregular workloads and increase resource utilization.
Results show that regular and irregular applications scale well with the number of
devices, while requiring minimal programming e ort. Consumer-producer kernels are
able to sustain signi cant performance gains as long as the workload per basic work
unit is enough to compensate overheads associated with intra-device scheduling. This
not being the case, consumer kernels can still be used for the irregular application.
Comparisons with an alternative framework, StarPU, which targets regular workloads,
consistently demonstrate signi cant speedups. This is, to the best of our knowledge, the
rst published integrated approach that successfully handles irregular workloads over
heterogeneous systems. This work is funded by National Funds through the FCT - Fundação para a Ciência
