Julião Sarmento: The Innuendo of the Real
Julião Sarmento’s body of work crosses artistic disciplines and fields. The artist resorts to film and video as a means to reach the artistic expression of an idea, open to an infinitude of interpretations. This audiovisual essay looks at the way Julião Sarmento works with moving images, focusing in three main perspectives: the word, the (feminine) body and rhythm. We conclude that each one of Sarmento’s works builds a system of codes, of communication, that opens new understandings of the human relation with the ‘real’

Experimental and Numerical Analysis of a Sprint Canoe for the Olympic Games
Portuguese culture has always been interconnected with nautical culture. Nowadays, Portugal is a powerful country in canoeing. Besides athletes, excellent training places, Portugal is
one of the best manufacturers of canoes and kayaks in the world. To have a constant evolution in the design of the boats, it is crucial to study the hydrodynamics of canoes. Therefore,
the present work arises in the context of the lack of scientific studies in the area of hydrodynamics in canoeing, mainly the C1 boat.
In this dissertation, simulations of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) were performed
in order to simulate the water and air flow around the hull of two canoes to evaluate their
performance. For this, the Fluid Volume method (VoF) was used to simulate the free surface,
and the turbulence model ?e Standard to simulate the turbulence. A mesh independence
study was also carried out to ensure that the mesh used does not affect the intended results.
The software used for this analysis was Ansys Fluent 2019 R3.
In order to validate the numerical study, experimental tests were performed at full scale. The
numerical model was then applied to the two vessels, where the resistance to advance of the
canoes, at a range of velocities was studied, as well as for different pitch angle.
Also for comparison purposes the wave elevation, as well as the effect of the flow velocity, in
both canoes were evaluated.
For the C1 5 L model, the values were overestimated numerically, while for the other model,
the C1 8 L, the results were closer to the values obtained experimentally. Other numerical
studies have shown similar problems, which possibly has to do with the exact determination
of the waterline position, which significantly influences the final results.A cultura portuguesa esteve sempre interligada com a cultura náutica. Atualmente, Portugal
avaliar a performance destas.
BASSILO - Battery storage sizing and location in distribution systems
This thesis addresses the problem of sizing and optimal location of non-domestic energy storage, batteries, in distribution networks that integrate distributed photovoltaic generation, with the objective of analysing its exploration potential in the energy business. For this purpose, a formulation based on line programming and the EPSO metaheuristic (Evolutionary Particle Swarm Operation) has been proposed for the minimization of the costs of including a storage system in the energy grid.Given the size and location of the battery, a formulation based on linear programming will allow to determine the optimal operation of the battery for the following cases: in the first study, the operation of the battery in the base of one day. In the second, the operation of the battery in the base of multiple consecutive days. The optimal size and location of the battery is determined using the EPSO metaheuristics, which will evaluate the costs involved in the two perspectives of operation of the battery, previously proposed. The results presented are for a realistic power network, CIGRE - European MV distribution network benchmark, modified to be operated as a radial network, comprising distributed loads (commercial and residential) and photovoltaic generation for several operating scenarios in which the variation of energy prices, are considered to validate the proposed business exploration model
Study of automatic validation of technical specifications of complex products: case study applied to an Exhaust Gas Recirculation module (EGR)
Dissertação de mestrado integrado em Engenharia MecânicaThis academic work consists in the study of mechanisms that can validate the technical
specifications of a certain product, in this case, an EGR Module.
Initially, an analysis about the origin of these systems, their functionality and how they
are produced was made. This part of the work gives most of the theoretical knowledge
necessary to procced to the study of the main subject: Automatic Validation of Technical
Specifications of Complex Products.
Then, a study of a specific EGR Module was carried out, going through every phase of its
development, starting with Design Development, where the product was drawn, and several
design alterations were made due to failures in the test benches and simulations.
The Process Development starts with the design freeze of the last design of the Design
Development, the dimensioning of the tools specific for this product and with flow-chart of
the process, which gives for the first time an overlook of the process itself. After this the
production line starts to be designed to fulfill the demands of the client.
In this production line design, there is seen how it is possible to assure the quality of the
product and which machines are fully responsible for controlling the specifications of the
product. Finally, the production line is validated with multiple tests that measures how the
measure process is exact, precise and feasible, being done MSAs, R@R, Capability Tests, etc.
especificações do produto. Finalmente, a linha de produção é validada com múltiplos testes
que medem como o processo de medida é exato, preciso e exequível, sendo feitos MSAs,
R@R, Testes de Repetibilidade, etc
Data Migration to Cloud in ERP Implementations
The concept of Cloud Computing has evolved constantly, in strand of service models, based on the creation and share of several technological resources. Increasingly, it has used virtualization technology to optimize resources, which are shared by all accounts, in a self-service format. All these features result in a flexible and progressive behavior of resources. The management of the service provided, is made based on the service level agreement established between the client and the cloud provider, and the constant technological developments can quickly change depending of the requirements. That said, knowing the current state of Wipro with respect to the concepts of data migration and cloud being combined into one, it is very challenging to design and build a possible process to help the company make this transition. Especially, when there is already a tool that has been used for several years and it is intended to be part of this integration with a new possible solution that is described along this document. The study, of qualitative nature, is guided by different case studies when it comes to the processes being used to migrate data into Cloud. The main objectives are to find new solutions that increase productivity of the company, save human resources that can be reallocated to other tasks, ending up to be considered innovative solutions, with rapid implementations and most importantly with low cost. What ends up in the overall objective of this dissertation that is to examine the feasibility of the adoption of Cloud Computing in Wipro Portugal through two main points: • The migration of data into Cloud; • Integration with Data Conversion Tool (DCT). We believe that this approach is very meaningful towards encouraging greater productivity and obtaining new achievements. Concerning the empirical study, there is a big number of tools that can be investigated later as possible solutions for other kind of implementations than Oracle Retail. For now this dissertation focus in the current OR business approaches and points for Oracle Cloud as the main Cloud Computing Service due to its partnership with Wipro. Both solutions that were implemented, SQL Loader and Golden Gate, seem viable and versatile as they can be integrated with the current tool, DCT and are capable of loading several amounts of data without any issues. In terms of performance Golden Gate seems to be a few steps above of SQL Loader, but requires deeper analysis when using multi threading as an option in both methods, and the containerization of the databases can be very relevant regarding the times of loading. In general, good solutions are available and need to be taken into consideration by the company as they can help to leverage its resources in a more efficient way and the main objective of having data in the Cloud was reached, having gathered knowledge about the behaviour of Oracle Cloud and some of the services
Transcriptomic effects of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug Ibuprofen in the marine bivalve Mytilus galloprovincialis Lam
The transcriptomic effects of Ibuprofen (IBU) in the digestive gland tissue of Mytilus galloprovincialis Lam. specimens exposed at low environmental concentrations (250 ng L-1) are presented. Using a 1.7 K feature cDNA microarray along with linear models and empirical Bayes statistical methods 225 differentially expressed genes were identified in mussels treated with IBU across a 15-day period. Transcriptional dynamics were typical of an adaptive response with a peak of gene expression change at day 7 (177 features, representing about 11% of sequences available for analysis) and an almost full recovery at the end of the exposure period. Functional genomics by means of Gene Ontology term analysis unraveled typical mussel stress responses i.e. aminoglycan (chitin) metabolic processes but also more specific effects such as the regulation of NF-kappa B transcription factor activity.
