    A Longitudinal Model of Post-Adoption Phenomena and Its Empirical Test in the Context of Social Games

    It is widely accepted that initial adoption is critical to innovation success. A less recognized argument in the information System (IS) field is that post-adoption use of an innovation is equally important, if not more important than its initial acceptance. Drawing on the popular Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use Technology (UTAUT) model (Venkatesh et al. 2003) while adopting the Integrative Framework of Technology Use (IFTU) (Kim and Malhotra, 2005) paradigm, the present study proposes and tests a general modeling approach for one type of modern internet innovations – social games. To this end, we develop testable hypotheses which will be tested in order to support our claims. A research design based on the model is proposed, and theoretical contributions are provided

    Applying the Cox Model to Study Online Gambling Behavior

    Although a key objective of Internet gambling service providers is player retention, there is a concomitant need to reduce the social costs of gambling. Our study shows how habit and prospect theories help build an integrative framework for decision support in regulated Internet gambling environments. To illustrate the practical implication of this framework, we applied the Cox model with time-dependent covariates on real gambling data collected from 4,222 users of a gambling website. The results help establish the positive association of key indicators such as the prior outcomes on the activity lifespan of an Internet gambler and the moderating effect of gambling frequency on the positive association between prior outcomes and gambling lifespan. This research is expected to contribute to the literatures on IT adoption and diffusion in general, and IT-based addictive behavior in particular

    Proximity effect induced intriguing superconductivity in van der Waals heterostructure of magnetic topological insulator and conventional superconductor

    Nontrivial topological superconductivity has received enormous research attentions due to its potential for diverse applications in topological quantum computing. The intrinsic issue concerning the correlation between a topological insulator and a superconductor is, however, still widely open. Here, we systemically report an emergent superconductivity in a cross-junction composed of a magnetic topological insulator MnBi2Te4 and a conventional superconductor NbSe2. Remarkably, the interface indicates existence of a reduced superconductivity at surface of NbSe2 and a proximity-effectinduced superconductivity at surface of MnBi2Te4. Furthermore, the in-plane angular-dependent magnetoresistance measurements reveal the fingerprints of the paring symmetry behaviors for these superconducting gaps as a unconventional nature. Our findings extend our views and ideas of topological superconductivity in the superconducting heterostructures with time-reversal symmetry breaking, offering an exciting opportunity to elucidate the cooperative effects on the surface state of a topological insulator aligning a superconductor.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure

    Identification of a novel seed size associated locus SW9-1 in soybean

    Published versionSeed size is one of the vital traits determining seed appearance, quality, and yield. Untangling the genetic mechanisms regulating soybean 100-seed weight (100-SW), seed length and seed width across environments may provide a theoretical basis for improving seed yield. However, there are few reports related to QTL mapping of 100-SW across multiple ecological regions. In this study, 21 loci associated with seed size traits were identified using a genome-wide association of 5361 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) across three ecoregions in China, which could explain 8.12%–14.25% of the phenotypic variance respectively. A new locus, named as SW9-1 on chromosome 9 that explained 10.05%–10.93% of the seed weight variance was found significantly related to seed size traits, and was not previously reported. The selection effect analysis showed that SW9-1 locus has a relatively high phenotypic effect (13.67) on 100-SW, with a greater contribution by the accessions with bigger seeds (3.69) than the accessions with small seeds (1.66). Increases in seed weight were accompanied by increases in the frequency of SW9-1T allele, with >90% of the bred varieties with a 100-SW >30 g carrying SW9-1T. Analysis of SW9-1 allelic variation in additional soybean accessions showed that SW9-1T allele accounting for 13.83% of the wild accessions, while in 46.55% and 51.57% of the landraces and bred accessions, respectively, this results indicating that the SW9-1 locus has been subjected to artificial selection during the early stages of soybean breeding, especially the utilization of SW9-1T in edamame for big seed. These results suggest that SW9-1 is a novel and reliable locus associated with seed size traits, and might have an important implication for increasing soybean seed weight in molecular design breeding. Cloning this locus in future may provide new insights into the genetic mechanisms underlying soybean seed size traits

    Neural network-based model for evaluating inert nodules and volume doubling time in T1 lung adenocarcinoma: a nested case−control study

    ObjectiveThe purpose of this study is to establish model for assessing inert nodules predicting nodule volume-doubling.MethodsA total of 201 patients with T1 lung adenocarcinoma were analysed retrospectively pulmonary nodule information was predicted by an AI pulmonary nodule auxiliary diagnosis system. The nodules were classified into two groups: inert nodules (volume-doubling time (VDT)>600 days n=152) noninert nodules (VDT<600 days n=49). Then taking the clinical imaging features obtained at the first examination as predictive variables the inert nodule judgement model <sn</sn>>(INM) volume-doubling time estimation model (VDTM) were constructed based on a deep learning-based neural network. The performance of the INM was evaluated by the area under the curve (AUC) obtained from receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis the performance of the VDTM was evaluated by R2(determination coefficient).ResultsThe accuracy of the INM in the training and testing cohorts was 81.13% and 77.50%, respectively. The AUC of the INM in the training and testing cohorts was 0.7707 (95% CI 0.6779-0.8636) and 0.7700 (95% CI 0.5988-0.9412), respectively. The INM was effective in identifying inert pulmonary nodules; additionally, the R2 of the VDTM in the training cohort was 0.8008, and that in the testing cohort was 0.6268. The VDTM showed moderate performance in estimating the VDT, which can provide some reference during a patients’ first examination and consultationConclusionThe INM and the VDTM based on deep learning can help radiologists and clinicians distinguish among inert nodules and predict the nodule volume-doubling time to accurately treat patients with pulmonary nodules

    Ferret badger rabies origin and its revisited importance as potential source of rabies transmission in Southeast China

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The frequent occurrence of ferret badger-associated human rabies cases in southeast China highlights the lack of laboratory-based surveillance and urges revisiting the potential importance of this animal in rabies transmission. To determine if the ferret badgers actually contribute to human and dog rabies cases, and the possible origin of the ferret badger-associated rabies in the region, an active rabies survey was conducted to determine the frequency of rabies infection and seroprevalence in dogs and ferret badgers.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>A retrospective survey on rabies epidemics was performed in Zhejiang, Jiangxi and Anhui provinces in southeast China. The brain tissues from ferret badgers and dogs were assayed by fluorescent antibody test. Rabies virus was isolated and sequenced for phylogenetic analysis. The sera from ferret badgers and dogs were titrated using rabies virus neutralizing antibodies (VNA) test.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The ferret badgers presented a higher percentage of rabies seroconversion than dogs did in the endemic region, reaching a maximum of 95% in the collected samples. Nine ferret badger-associated rabies viruses were isolated, sequenced, and were phylogenetically clustered as a separate group. Nucleotide sequence revealed 99.4-99.8% homology within the ferret badger isolates, and 83-89% homology to the dog isolates in the nucleoprotein and glycoprotein genes in the same rabies endemic regions.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Our data suggest ferret badger-associated rabies has likely formed as an independent enzootic originating from dogs during the long-term rabies infestation in southeast China. The eventual role of FB rabies in public health remains unclear. However, management of ferret badger bites, rabies awareness and control in the related regions should be an immediate need.</p

    A compendium of genetic regulatory effects across pig tissues

    The Farm Animal Genotype-Tissue Expression (FarmGTEx) project has been established to develop a public resource of genetic regulatory variants in livestock, which is essential for linking genetic polymorphisms to variation in phenotypes, helping fundamental biological discovery and exploitation in animal breeding and human biomedicine. Here we show results from the pilot phase of PigGTEx by processing 5,457 RNA-sequencing and 1,602 whole-genome sequencing samples passing quality control from pigs. We build a pig genotype imputation panel and associate millions of genetic variants with five types of transcriptomic phenotypes in 34 tissues. We evaluate tissue specificity of regulatory effects and elucidate molecular mechanisms of their action using multi-omics data. Leveraging this resource, we decipher regulatory mechanisms underlying 207 pig complex phenotypes and demonstrate the similarity of pigs to humans in gene expression and the genetic regulation behind complex phenotypes, supporting the importance of pigs as a human biomedical model.</p

    Uses and gratifications of social games: Blending social networking and game play

    This study applied a uses and gratifications approach to investigate social games &mdash; the game applications integrated in social networking platforms. Users&rsquo; expected social gratifications and game gratifications from playing social games were examined. The investigation focused on three dimensions of game play: frequency, duration, and engagement of game activities. A hierarchical regression analysis found that social interaction and diversion are positive predictors of game play. Results suggest that there is a distinctly social aspect to social games that reflects their social networking characteristics. Social games should be described as social media rather than as just one category of online computer games

    The Road toward Smart Cities: A Study of Citizens’ Acceptance of Mobile Applications for City Services

    Many local governments have started using smartphone applications to more effectively inform and communicate with citizens. This trend is of interest, as cities can only be smart if they are responsive to their citizens. In this paper, the intention to use such a mobile application among adult residents (n = 420) of a mid-sized city in the southeastern United States was examined using hierarchical linear regression analysis. The regression model that was tested indicated significant predictors of the intention to use the app in order to report municipal problems, such as power outages, and to request services for one&rsquo;s home or community, including: Performance expectancy (e.g., citizens&rsquo; beliefs that the app would be efficient, helpful, convenient), effort expectancy (citizens&rsquo; beliefs about difficulty of using the app), social influence, perceived cost (e.g., privacy loss, storage space, unwanted notifications), and prior use of city apps. Consistent with current research on technology adoption, performance expectancy had the strongest influence on app-use intentions. Additionally, citizens&rsquo; trust in their city government&rsquo;s ability to effectively manage an app was a weak, positive predictor of app-use intentions; general trust in the city government did not predict app-use intentions. Implications for city governments and city app developers are discussed

    Quantitative analysis of regional water resources and secure development of economic and social coupling systems

    The development and rational utilization of regional water resources (RWR) is an important foundation for achieving comprehensive utilization of water resources and socio-economic progress. Socio-economic development has created necessary conditions and funds for the rational development of water resources, and the two support and constrain each other. Therefore, this article conducts a quantitative analysis of RWR to ensure the sustainable development of the economic and social (EAS) coupling system. An evaluation system was constructed based on feasibility analysis using the principal component analysis theory and entropy method. The results indicated that the interaction between RWR and EAS was relatively strong. In the seven-year survey, the coordinated development of the two showed an upward trend. The coupling and coordination indexes reached their lowest point in 2015 and have shown an upward trend. The coupling index increased by 0.34, and the coordination index increased by 0.21 to obtain a highly coordinated development state. HIGHLIGHTS The development of social economy has created necessary conditions and funds for the rational development of water resources, and the two support and restrict each other.; On the basis of feasibility analysis, this paper uses principal component analysis theory and entropy value method to construct an evaluation system, and conducts quantitative analysis on RWR to ensure sustainable economic and social development (EAS) coupling system.; The findings in this paper suggest a strong interaction between RWR and EAS.
