    La influencia visual de IBM en las primeras cabeceras de revistas españolas de informática para usuarios

    In the early eighties coexist a wide range of computers –Commodore, Sinclair, Amstrad– but IBM (International Business Machines) is the brand that wins the battle in the market for personal computers, compatible Personal Computer (PC). The current IBM logo was designed by Paul Rand in the midfifties and after the international projection of this company, its visual appearance causes a strong influence and begins to be imitated by companies, institutions, computer stores, electronics shops and more specifically for the publishing of magazines especialized in computing for final users. This research brings us back to the first Spanish headers specialized in computer users and especially for those in which this influence is evident. This analysis is part of a large research titled: Design evolution of computer magazines for advanced users in Spain. El logotipo actual de IBM fue diseñado por Paul Rand a mediados de los años cincuenta y tras la proyección internacional de esta empresa, su aspecto visual provoca una fuerte influencia y comienza a ser imitado por empresas, instituciones, tiendas de informática, electrónica y más en concreto por el sector editorial de revistas especializadas en informática para usuarios. Esta investigación nos retrotrae a las primeras cabeceras españolas especializadas en informática para usuarios y en especial aquellas en las que se evidencia dicha influencia.     La Universidad Nebrija y en concreto la facultad de Comunicación siempre ha apostado por la realización de experiencias formativas muy relacionadas con el mundo profesional, sirvan de ejemplo actividades como el Festival Jóvenes Tocados por la Publicidad, El Festival de Cortos ADNy El Concurso Periodístico Nipho. En esta ocasión el propósito de este artículo es integrar las terceras Jornadas de Periodismo Audiovisual como una actividad académica dirigida desde el aula de diseño gráfico. Los casos reales a los que haré referencia y que deseo compartir se han desarrollado durante el curso académico 2010/2011 concretamente en las asignaturas de Elementos del diseño gráfico (grado en Periodismo) y Herramientas del diseño publicitario (grado en Publicidad). Las jornadas fueron aprovechadas para la formación específica de los alumnos en los dos perfiles profesionales mencionados. Los estudiantes de periodismo tenían que confeccionar una doble página cuyos contenidos eran una entrevista y una crónica; y los de publicidad debían diseñar un cartel publicitario. El objetivo último de ambas experiencias formativas era convertir el aula en un espacio vivo de aprendizaje

    Reflections upon the development of student´s competences through an extra curricula activity

    En este artículo se presenta una reflexión sobre el Concurso Gráfica Nebrija, una actividad extraacadémica que cuenta con más de diez años de experiencia. Para cada edición, se forman equipos de trabajo de estudiantes de Publicidad y profesores, con el fin de que los profesores ayuden a los estudiantes a adquirir objetivos formativos específicos y, a la vez, supervisen la actividad de los alumnos recreando un ambiente de trabajo profesional. Con la implantación del EEES, las dinámicas y las metodologías de trabajo de ediciones anteriores se adaptaron para favorecer la adquisición de las competencias descritas en Bolonia que permiten a los estudiantes afrontar satisfactoriamente su carrera profesional. De esta manera, se ha adoptado un enfoque interdisciplinar que ha permitido incorporar a estudiantes de las titulaciones de periodismo y comunicación audiovisual.This article presents a reflection upon the use of extracurricular activities, precisely the Print Nebrija Contest, now on its 10th edition. Each edition counts on working teams of advertising students and lecturers, being lecturers’ task to supervise the acquisition of objectives and help students to carry out the activity in a real professional working context. With the EEES, the teaching methodologies and group dynamics used in early editions had to be adapted in order to allow students to acquire the new competences and skills Bologna agreements specify and to allow students to face satisfactorily their professional career. In its first editions this Contest was organised by Advertising students but, since the EEES, an interdisciplinary approach has been adopted and students from the field of Journalism and Audiovisual Communication have been incorporated

    Novos comunicadores audiovisuais: oportunidades profissionais e requisitos de formação no contexto espanhol

    The digital transformation of the audiovisual environment and its effects on the logic of creation, production and marketing of the communication industries has led to the emergence of new professional profiles in audiovisual communication studies in Spain. Specialists in this field identify three scenarios of professional specialization that universities should attend to in the training of future audiovisual professionals: (a) design, programming and development of applications and software; (b) digital marketing and management of video and audio platforms for online use; and(c) visual effects, virtual scenography and design of 3D characters and atmospheres. This study aims to identify the skills and abilities associated with each of these profiles by combining scientific literature, reports and studies with in-depth interviews with renowned professionals and professors.La transformación digital del entorno audiovisual y sus efectos sobre las lógicas de creación, producción y comercialización de las industrias de la comunicación han impulsado la aparición de nuevos perfiles profesionales en los estudios de Comunicación Audiovisual en España. Los especialistas en este ámbito delimitan tres escenarios de especialización laboral, a los que las universidades deberían prestar atención con miras a la formación de los futuros profesionales del audiovisual en los siguientes entornos: (a) diseño, programación y desarrollo de aplicaciones y software; (b) marketing digital y gestión de plataformas de video y audio para su explotación en línea; y (c) efectos visuales, escenografía virtual y diseño de personajes y atmósferas 3D. Esta investigación tiene por objeto reconocer dichos perfiles profesionales e identificar las necesidades formativas asociadas con ellos, combinando literatura científica, informes y estudios, con entrevistas en profundidad a profesionales y docentes de acreditada trayectoria.A transformação digital do ambiente audiovisual e os seus efeitos nas lógicas de criação, produção e comercialização das indústrias da comunicação impulsaram o aparecimento de novos perfis profissionais nos estudos de Comunicação Audiovisual na Espanha. Especialistas nesse campo delimitam três cenários de especialização laboral consolidados na comunicação social e que as universidades devem atender para a formação de profissionais do audiovisual: (a) concepção, programação e desenvolvimento de aplicações e software; (b) marketing digital e gestão de plataformas de vídeo e áudio para exploração online; e (c) efeitos visuais, cenografia virtual e desenho de ambientes e personagens em 3D. Essa investigação visa reconhecer as competências e capacidades associadas a esses perfis profissionais a partir do estudo descritivo de tipo relacional exploratório, que combina uma revisão da literatura científica mais recente sobre este assunto com entrevistas aprofundadas (a profissionais e docentes) com experiência comprovada em cada uma das áreas já assinaladas. O estudo descreve e sistematiza os papéis e requisitos destes campos de competência, a fim de identificar áreas de oportunidade na indústria audiovisual

In this paper, the prevailing precariousness in the media is analyzed in order to see if it affects health information and the specialization of its professionals. This work is based on a qualitative research, using in-depth interviews with health information journalists belonging to 16 Spanish media. The research underscores the priority of certain resources, the need to enable verification processes and to face new professional challenges. This research is part of the Aula Nebrija-MSD Spain of Communication and Health Sciences funded project

    Las primeras revistas especializadas en informática para usuarios surgen en España en la década de los ochenta. Anteriormente, los manuales de los fabricantes y la prensa técnica eran las únicas fuentes de información disponibles. Estas publicaciones pioneras especializadas en informática contribuyeron de manera evidente a difundir la disciplina. Buscaban transmitir tecnología, modernidad y futuro, lo que se refleja, en algunas cabeceras de revistas que incorporan tipografías de inspiración tecnológica. Los relojes y calculadoras digitales, los tipos de baja resolución y la lectura automática de textos ayudaron a la creación y posterior utilización de esta nueva categoría de tipos de letra.The first magazines specializing in computer science for users arise in Spain in the eighties. Previously, the manuals of the manufacturers and the technical press were the only available information sources. These pioneering publications specializing in computer science helped in a clear way to spread the discipline. They were thinking about how to transmit technology, modernity and future, what is reflected, in some magazine headings that incorporate typographies of technological inspiration. The digital clocks and calculators, the types of low resolution and the automatic reading of texts helped to the creation and later use of this new category of fonts

    Fake News Reaching Young People on Social Networks: Distrust Challenging Media Literacy

    Current societies are based on huge flows of information and knowledge circulating on the Internet, created not only by traditional means but by all kinds of users becoming producers, which leads to fake news and misinformation. This situation has been exacerbated by the pandemic to an unprecedented extent through social media, with special concern among young people. This study aims to provide significant data about the youngest generation in Spain (Generation Z) regarding their media and information consumption, their social network use, and their relationship with fake news, all in relation to the feeling of reliability/trust. Focusing on a convenience sample of 408 young Spanish students from Generation Z aged 18 to 22, a descriptive exploratory study is presented. Data collection was performed with an adapted questionnaire. Results show that young Spanish people use networks for information, showing a surprising lack of trust in social networks as the media they consume the most. The content they consume the most since the occurrence of COVID-19 is related to politics, entertainment, humor, and music. On the other hand, distrust of politicians, media, and journalists is evident. The conclusion is that media literacy is still more necessary than ever, but with the added challenge of mistrust: maybe it is time to rethink media literacy
