    A Simplified Scheme of Estimation and Cancellation of Companding Noise for Companded Multicarrier Transmission Systems

    Nonlinear companding transform is an efficient method to reduce the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of multicarrier transmission systems. However, the introduced companding noise greatly degrades the bit-error-rate (BER) performance of the companded multicarrier systems. In this paper, a simplified but effective scheme of estimation and cancellation of companding noise for the companded multicarrier transmission system is proposed. By expressing the companded signals as the summation of original signals added with a companding noise component, and subtracting this estimated companding noise from the received signals, the BER performance of the overall system can be significantly improved. Simulation results well confirm the great advantages of the proposed scheme over other conventional decompanding or no decompanding schemes under various situations

    Using the organismic dialectical metatheory and the empirical research approach, this study systemically explores the relationship between creative situations and creative behavior. The study finds that the opinion proposed by organismic dialectical metatheory, that needs and motivation mediate the situation and the behavior, is true. Also, support from leaders and the richness of resources are primary components of creative situations. Furthermore, the satisfaction of self-determination and competence is at the core of creative activity; enjoyment is the direct cause for creative behavior, and pursuit of challenges is the most important indirect cause

    A Novel FastICA Method for the Reference-based Contrast Functions

    This paper deals with the efficient optimization problem of Cumulant-based contrast criteria in the Blind Source Separation (BSS) framework, in which sources are retrieved by maximizing the Kurtosis contrast function. Combined with the recently proposed reference-based contrast schemes, a new fast fixed-point (FastICA) algorithm is proposed for the case of linear and instantaneous mixture. Due to its quadratic dependence on the number of searched parameters, the main advantage of this new method consists in the significant decrement of computational speed, which is particularly striking with large number of samples. The method is essentially similar to the classical algorithm based on the Kurtosis contrast function, but differs in the fact that the reference-based idea is utilized.     This paper deals with the optimization of kurtosis for complex-valued signals in the independent component analysis (ICA) framework, where source signals are linearly and instantaneously mixed. Inspired by the recently proposed reference-based contrast schemes, a similar contrast function is put forward, based on which a new fast fixed-point (FastICA) algorithm is proposed. The new optimization method is similar in spirit to the former classical kurtosis-based FastICA algorithm but differs in the fact that it is much more efficient than the latter in terms of computational speed, which is significantly striking with large number of samples. The performance of this new algorithm is confirmed through computer simulations

    Photo-based automatic 3D reconstruction of train accident scenes

    Railway accidents place significant demands on the resources of, and support from, railway emergency management departments. Once an accident occurs, an efficient incident rescue plan needs to be delivered as early as possible to minimise the loss of life and property. However, in the railway sector, most relevant departments currently face a challenge in drawing up a rescue scheme effectively and accurately with the insufficient information collected from the scene of a train accident. To assist with the rescue planning, we propose a framework which can rapidly and automatically construct a 3D virtual scene of a train accident by utilising photos of the accident spot. The framework uses a hybrid 3D reconstruction method to extract the position and pose information of the carriages involved in an accident. It adopts a geographic information system and a 3D visualisation engine to model and display the landscapes and buildings at the site of a train accident. In order to assess and validate our prototype, we quantitatively evaluate our main algorithm and demonstrate the usage of our technology with two case studies including a simulated scene with an in-lab setting and a real train derailment scene from on-site pictures. The results of both are accoun table with high accuracy and represent the ability of timely modelling and visualisation of a train accident scene

    A High-Q Microwave MEMS Resonator

    A High-Q microwave (K band) MEMS resonator is presented, which empolys substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) and micromachined via-hole arrays by ICP process. Nonradiation dielectric waveguide (NRD) is formed by metal filled via-hole arrays and grounded planes. The three dimensional (3D) high resistivity silicon substrate filled cavity resonator is fed by current probes using CPW line. This monolithic resonator results in low cost, high performance and easy integration with planar cicuits. The measured quality factor is beyond 180 and the resonance frequency is 21GHz.It shows a good agreement with the simulation results. The chip size is only 4.7mm x 4.6mm x 0.5mm.     Enhanced superconductivity at the interface of W/Sr2_{2}RuO4_{4} point contact

    Differential resistance measurements are conducted for point contacts (PCs) between tungsten tip approaching along the cc axis direction and the abab plane of Sr2_{2}RuO4_{4} single crystal. Three key features are found. Firstly, within 0.2 mV there is a dome like conductance enhancement due to Andreev reflection at the normal-superconducting interface. By pushing the W tip further, the conductance enhancement increases from 3\% to more than 20\%, much larger than that was previously reported, probably due to the pressure exerted by the tip. Secondly, there are also superconducting like features at bias higher than 0.2 mV which persists up to 6.2 K, resembling the enhanced superconductivity under uniaxial pressure for bulk Sr2_{2}RuO4_{4} crystals but more pronounced here. Third, the logarithmic background can be fitted with the Altshuler-Aronov theory of tunneling into quasi two dimensional electron system, consistent with the highly anisotropic electronic system in Sr2_{2}RuO4_{4}.Comment: prb style, 9 pages, 8 fig

Any packet can be attributed to its sender for evaluating its credibility. Existing studies mainly rely on third-party agents that contain the packet sender's identity to ensure the sender's privacy preservation and credibility. In this case, packet senders run the risk that their privacy might be leaked by the agent. To this end, this paper proposes a Privacy Preserved and Credible Network Protocol (PCNP), which authorizes the agent to hide the identities of senders and receivers, while guaranteeing the credibility of a packet.
