    MotionBEV: Attention-Aware Online LiDAR Moving Object Segmentation with Bird's Eye View based Appearance and Motion Features

    Identifying moving objects is an essential capability for autonomous systems, as it provides critical information for pose estimation, navigation, collision avoidance, and static map construction. In this paper, we present MotionBEV, a fast and accurate framework for LiDAR moving object segmentation, which segments moving objects with appearance and motion features in the bird's eye view (BEV) domain. Our approach converts 3D LiDAR scans into a 2D polar BEV representation to improve computational efficiency. Specifically, we learn appearance features with a simplified PointNet and compute motion features through the height differences of consecutive frames of point clouds projected onto vertical columns in the polar BEV coordinate system. We employ a dual-branch network bridged by the Appearance-Motion Co-attention Module (AMCM) to adaptively fuse the spatio-temporal information from appearance and motion features. Our approach achieves state-of-the-art performance on the SemanticKITTI-MOS benchmark. Furthermore, to demonstrate the practical effectiveness of our method, we provide a LiDAR-MOS dataset recorded by a solid-state LiDAR, which features non-repetitive scanning patterns and a small field of view

    High activity Pd-Fe bimetallic catalysts for aqueous phase hydrogenations

    Palladium-iron bimetallic catalysts were synthesized using carbon-coated silica supports that provided high hydrogenation activity relative to monometallic palladium under condensed-phase hydrothermal conditions. The catalysts were applied to the hydrogenation of carbonyl groups in acetone, 2-pentanone, and propionaldehyde. While Fe incorporation independent of Pd-to-Fe ratio gave enhanced activity, the catalysts having more Fe than Pd gave more than a three-fold increase in hydrogenation activity relative to the Pd only counterpart. The activity enhancement appeared to be related to the influence of Fe on the Pd as Fe under the condensed-phase reaction conditions was inert. The catalysts were also tested for hydrogenation of unsaturated carbon-carbon double bond and aromatic rings in which more moderate activity enhancement was observed. Through evaluating the influence of Pd-to-Fe ratio on catalyst properties and catalytic performance for the range of molecules, it is proposed that the turnover frequency enhancement can be attributed to the formation of Pdδ− via Pd-Fe interaction

    Proto-Tethys magmatic evolution along northern Gondwana: Insights from Late Silurian–Middle Devonian A-type magmatism, East Kunlun Orogen, Northern Tibetan Plateau, China

    The East Kunlun Orogen records the geological evolutions of the Neoproterozoic – Early Paleozoic Proto-Tethyan Ocean and Late Paleozoic–Mesozoic Paleo-Tethys Ocean along northern Gondwana. However, the late-stage evolution of the Proto-Tethyan Ocean and the configuration of peri-Gondwana microcontinents during the Silurian – Devonian is under debate. Here we report new geochronological and geochemical data of A-type granites from the western Wulonggou and the eastern Gouli areas in the East Kunlun Orogen to deepen our understanding of these problems. Zircon LA-ICP-MS UPb data reveal that the Danshuigou monzogranite and Shenshuitan syenogranite from the western Wulonggou area were emplaced simultaneously at 418 ± 3 Ma, while the Niantang syenogranite from the eastern Gouli area was emplaced at 403 ± 2 Ma. All these rocks display high-K calcic-alkalic to shoshonitic and metaluminous to slight peraluminous signatures, with relatively low CaO, Al2O3, MgO and Sr, and high FeOt/MgO, Ga/Al, Zr, and Nb, indicating their A-type affinity. Their moderate whole-rock εNd(t) (−5.3 to −0.6) and zircon εHf(t) (−6.3–6.4) are different from those of depleted mantle and old basement rocks, but similar to those of the Ordovician–Silurian granitoids in the East Kunlun Orogen. These chemical signatures, together with the anhydrous, low-pressure and high-temperature characteristics of the magmas, indicate that partial melting of the Ordovician–Silurian granitoids generated these A-type granites. Regionally, these A-type granites and previously reported A-type granites in the East Kunlun Orogen compose a Late Silurian – Middle Devonian A-type granite belt. This belt, together with the regionally coeval molasse formation and mafic-ultramafic rocks, indicate a post-collisional extensional regime for the East Kunlun Orogen during the Late Silurian – Middle Devonian. Given that extensive contemporaneous post-collision-related magmatic rocks have also been revealed in the neighboring West Kunlun, Altyn, Qilian and Qinling blocks/terranes, we contend that the Neoproterozoic – Early Paleozoic Proto-Tethyan Ocean that separated these blocks/terranes from Gondwana had closed by the Late Silurian – Middle Devonian, which]resulted in the re-welding of the above blocks/terranes to northern Gondwana or Gondwana-derived microcontinents

    croFGD: Catharanthus roseus Functional Genomics Database

    Catharanthus roseus is a medicinal plant, which can produce monoterpene indole alkaloid (MIA) metabolites with biological activity and is rich in vinblastine and vincristine. With release of the scaffolded genome sequence of C. roseus, it is necessary to annotate gene functions on the whole-genome level. Recently, 53 RNA-seq datasets are available in public with different tissues (flower, root, leaf, seedling, and shoot) and different treatments (MeJA, PnWB infection and yeast elicitor). We used in-house data process pipeline with the combination of PCC and MR algorithms to construct a co-expression network exploring multi-dimensional gene expression (global, tissue preferential, and treat response) through multi-layered approaches. In the meanwhile, we added miRNA-target pairs, predicted PPI pairs into the network and provided several tools such as gene set enrichment analysis, functional module enrichment analysis, and motif analysis for functional prediction of the co-expression genes. Finally, we have constructed an online croFGD database (http://bioinformatics.cau.edu.cn/croFGD/). We hope croFGD can help the communities to study the C. roseus functional genomics and make novel discoveries about key genes involved in some important biological processes

    Regenerable Radical-Trapping Tellurobistocopherol Antioxidants

    Tellurobistocopherols <b>9</b>–<b>11</b> were prepared by lithiation of the corresponding bromotocopherols, reaction with tellurium tetrachloride and reductive workup. Compounds <b>9</b>–<b>11</b> quenched linoleic-acid-derived peroxyl radicals much more efficiently than α-tocopherol in a chlorobenzene/water two-phase system. <i>N</i>-Acetylcysteine or tris­(2-carboxylethyl)­phosphine as co-antioxidants in the aqueous phase could regenerate the tellurobistocopherols and increase their inhibition times. Antioxidant <b>11</b> inhibited peroxidation for 7-fold longer than that recorded with α-tocopherol. Thiol consumption in the aqueous phase was monitored and found to be inversely related to the inhibition time

    Pain in Huntington’s disease and its potential mechanisms

    Pain is common and frequent in many neurodegenerative diseases, although it has not received much attention. In Huntington’s disease (HD), pain is often ignored and under-researched because attention is more focused on motor and cognitive decline than psychiatric symptoms. In HD progression, pain symptoms are complex and involved in multiple etiologies, particularly mental issues such as apathy, anxiety and irritability. Because of psychiatric issues, HD patients rarely complain of pain, although their bodies show severe pain symptoms, ultimately resulting in insufficient awareness and lack of research. In HD, few studies have focused on pain and pain-related features. A detailed and systemic pain history is crucial to assess and explore pain pathophysiology in HD. This review provides an overview concentrating on pain-related factors in HD, including neuropathology, frequency, features, affecting factors and mechanisms. More attention and studies are still needed in this interesting field in the future
