The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of instructional methods and learning environments on the training, development, and success of employees with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). In this study, instructional methods refer to the variety of educational learning options that trainers can use to facilitate learning. Past research indicates that employees with ADHD are more successful when trainers understand their learning needs, use sound instructional design practices, and provide creative learning environments and structured activities. The researcher conducted a survey of employees from Bridgewater College, Eastern Mennonite University, and James Madison University who were formally diagnosed with ADHD. This survey was followed by interviews of two employees with ADHD from James Madison University. The researcher analyzed the data using quantitative and qualitative methods. Results indicated that the instructional method has a minor impact on learning, whereas the learning environment and instructional strategies greatly affect the learning and development of the employee with ADHD

China\u27s Good Earth: From Urbanization to Rural Development under Hu Jintao \u27s Administration

This paper analyzes the recent efforts of the Chinese government to facilitate rural development. It reviews the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s previous emphasis on urban-based growth, the history behind the shift towards rural development, and the attempts by President Hu Jintao to move from extensive urban development towards sustainable rural development. It asserts, first, that much of China’s urban-based development was intentionally encouraged by the government, and second, that the CCP is now deliberately moving its investment and focus to rural-based growth. The paper justifies these findings through an exploration of the previous and current economic policies and propaganda of the CCP. This study also explores the logic behind the policy changes and the implications of the new rural development policies, combining the primary and secondary resources with fieldwork undertaken in Sichuan province. The findings help us better understand how the previous government policies have shaped China’s dualistic development and how China’s economic landscape may be drastically transformed within the decade

Mixed anion compounds in the Fm3Ì…m vacancy ordered perovskite structure were synthesized and characterized experimentally and computationally with a focus on compounds where A = Cs+. Pure anion Cs2SnX6 compounds were formed with X = Cl, Br, and I using a room temperature solution phase method. Mixed anion compounds were formed as solid solutions of Cs2SnCl6 and Cs2SnBr6 and a second series from Cs2SnBr6 and Cs2SnI6. Single phase structures formed across the entirety of both composition series with no evidence of long-range anion ordering observed by diffraction. A distortion of the cubic A2BX6 structure was identified in which the spacing of the BX6 octahedra changes to accommodate the A site cation without reduction of overall symmetry. Optical band gap values varied with anion composition between 4.89 eV in Cs2SnCl6 to 1.35 eV in Cs2SnI6 but proved highly nonlinear with changes in composition. In mixed halide compounds, it was found that lower energy optical transitions appeared that were not present in the pure halide compounds, and this was attributed to lowering of the local symmetry within the tin halide octahedra. The electronic structure was characterized by photoemission spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy revealed vibrational modes in the mixed halide compounds that could be assigned to particular mixed halide octahedra. This analysis was used to determine the distribution of octahedra types in mixed anion compounds, which was found to be consistent with a near-random distribution of halide anions throughout the structure, although some deviations from random halide distribution were noted in mixed iodide-bromide compounds, where the larger iodide anions preferentially adopted trans configurations

The Shape of Protein Crowders is a Major Determinant of Protein Diffusion

AbstractAs a model for understanding how molecular crowding influences diffusion and transport of proteins in cellular environments, we combined experimental and theoretical approaches to study the diffusion of proteins in highly concentrated protein solutions. Bovine serum albumin and γ-Globulin were chosen as molecular crowders and as tracers. These two proteins are representatives of the main types of plasma protein and have different shapes and sizes. Solutions consisting of one or both proteins were studied. The self-diffusion coefficients of the fluorescently labeled tracer proteins were measured by means of fluorescence correlation spectroscopy at a total protein concentration of up to 400 g/L. γ-Globulin is found to have a stronger influence as a crowder on the tracer self-diffusion coefficient than Bovine serum albumin. Brownian dynamics simulations show that the excluded volume and the shape of the crowding protein have a significantly stronger influence on translational and rotational diffusion coefficients, as well as transient oligomerization, than hydrodynamic or direct interactions. Anomalous subdiffusion, which is not observed at the experimental fluorescence correlation spectroscopy timescales (>100 μs), appears only at very short timescales (<1 μs) in the simulations due to steric effects of the proteins. We envision that the combined experimental and computational approach employed here can be developed to unravel the different biophysical contributions to protein motion and interaction in cellular environments by systematically varying protein properties such as molecular weight, size, shape, and electrostatic interactions

Sequential Analysis of Livestock Herding Dog and Sheep Interactions

Livestock herding dogs are crucial contributors to Australian agriculture. However, there is a dearth of empirical studies of the behavioural interactions between dog and livestock during herding. A statistical approach that may reveal cause and effect in such interactions is lag sequential analysis. Using 48 video recordings of livestock herding dogs and sheep in a yard trial competition, event-based (time between behaviours is irrelevant) and time-based (time between behaviours is defined) lag sequential analyses identified several significant behavioural interactions (adjusted residuals greater than 2.58; the maximum likelihood-ratio chi-squared statistic for all eight contingency tables identified all sequences as highly significant (p \u3c 0.001)). These sequences were: The dog ceasing all movement followed by the sheep also ceasing movement; the dog chasing the sheep and a group of sheep escaping the main flock; a single sheep escaping the flock and the dog chasing; sheep initiating movement followed by the dog following; foot-stamping followed by the dog ceasing all movement; and, foot-stamping by the sheep and the dog lip-licking in response. Log linear regression identified significant relationships among undesirable behaviours in sheep and both observed trial duration (p = 0.001) and trial score (p = 0.009). No differences in the herding styles of dogs were identified between sex of dog and frequency of sheep escape behaviours (p = 0.355) nor the sex of dog and competition level (p = 0.116). The identification of trial score as a predictor of efficient performance confirms the benefits of incorporating extant objective measures to assess livestock herding dogs
