    The Notion of “Adjective” in Dhao; a Language Spoken in Eastern Indonesia

    It is cross-linguistically defined that adjective is a word category that typically denotes quality and attributes. This category basically falls into semantic properties denoting age, dimension, values, and colours. They also indicate human propensities, physical properties, and speed. Syntactically, adjective typically functions as noun modifiers. However, many adjectives also share features with verbs and/or nouns. This makes adjectives not easy to define. Therefore, morphological and syntactic accounts are required, in addition to semantics, to define the prototypical characteristics of adjectives. This paper has shown that majority of lexemes denoting adjectival properties in Dhao share features with verbs. Although the prefix pa- can be attached to verbs and adjectives to generate causative meaning, adjectives are confined only to the second verb in serial verb construction, instead of being the predicate heads. Further, only four adjectives can function as noun modifiers in their bare forms. These latter adjectives are considered as pure or simple adjectives, while the other nine qualifying for adjectives as “recategorized” adjectives

    Tujuan dilakukannya penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana perlindungan hukum terhadap warga negara Indonesia menurut Undang-Undang Nomor 37 Tahun 1999 Tentang Hubungan Luar Negeri dan bagaimana tugas dan fungsi perwakilan diplomatik dalam melindungi warga negara Indonesia di luar negeri menurut Undang-Undang Nomor 37 Tahun 1999 Tentang Hubungan Luar Negeri. Dengan menggunakan metode penelitian yuridis normatif, disimpulkan: 1. Perlindungan hukum terhadap warga negara Indonesia di luar negeri dilakukan oleh Pemerintah Republik Indonesia termasuk melindungi kepentingan warga negara atau badan hukum Indonesia yang menghadapi permasalahan hukum dengan perwakilan negara asing di Indonesia. Pemberian perlindungan sebagaimana dilakukan sesuai dengan ketentuan hukum dan kebiasaan internasional. Perwakilan negara asing adalah perwakilan diplomatik dan konsuler asing beserta anggota-anggotanya. Perlindungan kepentingan warga negara Indonesia, seperti yang bekerja pada perwakilan asing atau badan hukum Indonesia, seperti perusahaan swasta, dilakukan sesuai dengan kaidah-kaidah hukum dan kebiasaan internasional, antara lain dengan penggunaan sarana-sarana diplomatik. 2. Tugas dan fungsi perwakilan diplomatik dalam melindungi warga negara Indonesia di luar negeri sesuai dengan tugas pokok mewakili dan memperjuangkan kepentingan bangsa, negara, dan pemerintah Republik Indonesia serta melindungi warga negara Indonesia, badan hukum Indonesia di negara penerima dan/atau organisasi internasional, melalui pelaksanaan hubungan diplomatik dengan negara penerima dan/atau organisasi internasional, sesuai dengan kebijakan politik dan hubungan luar negeri Pemerintah Republik Indonesia, peraturan perundang-undangan nasional, hukum internasional, dan kebiasaan internasional.Kata kunci: Perlindungan, Warga Negara Indonesia Di Luar Negeri, Hubungan Luar Neger

    Pembentukan Verba Nana- -(K) dalam Bahasa Rote: antara Pasif dan Antikausatif

    This paper discloses the overlapping relationship between passive and anticausative in Rotenese. Passive and anticausative have similarity in concept; the syntactic valence decreasing from transitive to intransitive form. However, the two constructions have differences; the agent of passive construction is optional, while the agent of anticausative construction is never expressed. The analysis on Rotenese data shows that the marker nana- -(k) occurs when object is promoted to subject. In this case, the subject is demoted from the construction and even omitted. This indicates that the construction tends to be anticausative. Such construction can be also claimed as agentless passive because of the explicit formal marking

    Makalah ini membahas perihal revitalisasi bahasa Dhao, sebuah bahasa dengan sekitar 3000 penutur di Pulau Ndao, Provinsi NTT. Pembahasan difokuskan pada pemanfaatan dan digitalisasi teks lisan untuk berbagai tujuan. Agar teks lisan dapat dimanfaatkan, maka digunakan teknologi digitalisasi – perekaman, anotasi, penyuntingan, dan lain-lain. Hasilnya, konstruksi kalimat, tataurut kata, intonasi, data leksikal dan berbagai expresi diperoleh secara alamiah. Untuk tujuan pendidikan, maka dilakukan penyuntingan rekaman yang nantinya menyertai teks tertulis hasil transkripsi. Dengan digitalisasi, upaya pengembangan ranah dan fungsi bahasa Dhao dapat tercapai. Transmisi bahasa pun tidak hanya mengandalkan kemampuan para penutur, melainkan pengalaman berbahasa secara alamiah yang terdokumentasi dengan baik

    This paper deals with the revitalization of Dhao, a language spoken by about 3000 people in Ndao Island, East Nusa Tenggara Province. The discussion focuses on the use and digitalization of oral text for multipurpose function. To make the oral text useful, the digitalization technology is used ? recording, annotation, editing, etc. As the result, sentence construction, word order, intonation, lexical data, and variety of expressions are naturally produced. For educational purposes, recording editing must be done in order that the edited recording can usefully accompany the written text of transcribed data. By digitalization, the effort of developing domains and functions of Dhao can be reached. The language transmission depends not only on the speakers' competence, but also the natural speaking experience which is well-documented

    Validated CFD simulations of vortex formation in jet engine test cells

    Vortices can be produced and ingested in to the intake of a jet engine during its operation. This can occur when the plane is on the runway during take-off, or during engine tests in a test cell. The vortex can throw debris into the intake or stall the compressor, causing severe damage to the engine. The runway problem is solved by keeping the runway clear of debris and scheduling the throttle appropriately. However vortices can still occur in test cells. To eliminate vortices at the design stage it is necessary to be able to predict the onset of the vortex. This paper seeks to use the commercial CFD code Fluent to investigate both the runway and test cell problem. The runway problem has been investigated in previous wind tunnel studies by other authors. These studies were recreated in a CFD simulation reported in detail elsewhere. The threshold conditions for vortex formation were located and the effects of suction tube diameter, shear in the test cell inlet, ground boundary layer thickness and suction inlet Reynolds number were investigated. With the computational techniques thus validated, the study is extended to enclosed test cell geometries. The simulations show three stages of flow regime namely regular vortex, deformed vortex and no vortex. Vortices are not formed at cell bypass ratios greater than 50-70% and stable vortices are formed at cell bypass ratios less than 20-30%. The vortex threshold is found to be lower than the threshold for suction over ground plane simulations on the Vi/Vo against H/Di graph, i.e. vortex formation occurs over a wider range of conditions when the flow is enclosed

    Particle image velocimetry measurements of blood flow in a modeled carotid artery bifurcation

    Cardiovascular diseases are on of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in the western world. Amongst these diseases, atherosclerosis, a progressive narrowing of the arterial wall is one of the most severe and if untreated may lead to stroke or ischemic infarction. Fluid mechanic forces are a key player in the early development and progression of atherosclerosis and a better understanding of the interplay between haemodynamic and vascular diseases is needed. The carotid artery (CA) in one of the predominant sites of atherosclerotic plaque formation. In this work a transparent, scaled model of an average human carotid artery (AHCA) bifurcation was constructed and steady blood flow at Re = 290 and Re = 700 was simulated using an aqueous glycerin solution. Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) measurements were performed in the plane of bifurcation and three axial planes in the carotid sinus. Flow inside the CA bifurcation was found to be three-dimensional with strong secondary currents due to the curvature of the vessel. An accurate method for wall shear stress (WSS) calculation along the outer internal carotid artery (ICA) wall is introduced. The method was tested against synthetically generated particle images and was found to perform best for an 8x8 pix2 interrogation windows. A large low momentum flow region with low WSS along the outer ICA wall exists, posing the potential for atherosclerotic plaque formation. Calculated WSS ranged between 0 and 21. Pa and compared well with in-vivo data

    A projekt célja olyan vizuális és kémiai ingerek felderítése és hasznosítása volt, melyekkel kártevő bogárfajok [burgonyabogár (Leptinotarsa decemlineata), bundásbogár (Epicometis hirta), pattanóbogár (Agriotes spp.) és virágbogár fajok (Meligethes spp.)] tápnövényeikhez és/vagy az ivarok egymáshoz való orientációja befolyásolható annak érdekében, hogy tömeges gyűjtéssel egy populáció mérete csökkenthető legyen. Elsőként bizonyítottuk be, hogy a burgonyabogár vonzódik a nyers burgonyagumó darálékhoz és különösen annak trans-2-octenal komponenséhez. A bundásbogár legjobban a cinnamil alkohol és trans-anetol 1:1 arányú keverékére és a kék színű csapdákra reagál. A pattanóbogarakat az ernyősvirágú és más növényfajok virágillatával csalétkezett fehér színű csapdák fogják leghatékonyabban. A Meligethes-fajok a virágillat és a fenetil izotiocianát elegyére gyülekeznek, ellenben a színpreferencia szezonálisan változik (kora tavasszal zöldes-sárga, később kék), amelynek hátterében a fajok eltérő színvonzódása állhat. | The project aimed at finding and making use of visual and chemical stimuli that affected orientation of coleopterous pests [Colorado potato beetle (CPB, Leptinotarsa decemlineata), the scarab beetle (Epicometis hirta), click beetles (Agriotes spp.), and flower beetles (Meligethes spp.)] to host plants or to the opposite sex in order to collect adults en masse for decreasing local population levels. We demonstrated for the first time that the CPB was attracted to raw pulp of potato tubers and to volatiles emanating from the pulp, such as trans-2-octenal. With the scarab beetle a 1:1 mixture of cinnamyl alcohol and trans-anethole improved trap catches significantly if they were combined with blue surfaces. With Agriotes click beetles white traps baited with floral scents of umbelliferous and other plant species proved to be very effective. We also found that Meligethes flower beetles could be efficiently collected with traps coloured to greenish-yellow, white or blue when adding phenethyl isothiocyanate plus floral scents. However, the response to coloured surfaces changed with the season which might be explained by the participation of several Meligethes species of different colour preferences
