    Evaluating the Anti-Leech Effects of Methanolic Extracts of Peganum harmala L. and Olea europaea L. on Limnatis nilotica. World's Vet

    ABSTRACT Leeches had several complications such as pain, itching, inflammation, severe anemia, short-term bleeding, hypersensitivity, and anaphylactic reactions in their hosts. Harmal Peganum harmala L. is used as an analgesic and anti-inflammatory agent and it has antibacterial activity. Olive Olea europaea L. has antibacterial, anti-viral, hypoglycemic and the relaxation of blood vessels properties. Antioxidant properties of olive also had been reported. This study was carried out to detect the effects of methanolic extracts of P. harmala L. and O. europaea L. on L. nilotica immature form. In 2011, 55 immature leeches collected from the southern area of Ilam province were prepared. The methanolic extract of O. europaea L and P. harmala L. were compared with levamisole as the control drug. Distilled water was evaluated as the placebo group which investigated L. nilotica using anti-leech assay. Then extract and drugs were added and their effects were screened for 720 min and time to paralyze, kill and death of each leech was recorded. The results showed that olive methanolic extractions (600 and 300mg) could kill the leeches in an average time of 145±77.57 and171±33.28 min, respectively. An average death time for levamisole was found to be 15±7.49 min. The highest effectiveness was found for levamisole at dose 300 mg. Methanol extracts of the Harmal (300 and 600 μg/m) and springs water showed no anti-leech. In sum, olive plant could use for anti Limnatis nilotica expenditure

    Effect of iranian herbal medicines in dysmenorrhea phytotherapy

    Dysmenorrhea is one of the most prevalent medical disorders of gynecologic system that affects almost 50 of women with regular menstruation. Today, for the treatment and control of pain and symptoms, various methods such as herbal therapy, local heat, thiamin, vitamin E, fish oil supplements, acupuncture and transcutaneous nerve stimulation are used. In this study, the most important medicinal plants native to Iran, which are effective on pain are reported. Iranian herbs such as mint, platyloba, anise, valerian, thyme, mountain tea, ginger, lemon balm, sage, vitakous, dill, cinnamon, chamomile, celery, saffron, anise, anise, cumin, borage, marshmallow, citron, yarrow, black beans, buttercup, cardamom, oregano, black pepper and so on are used for dysmenorrhea. © 2015 Journal of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Research.     Pseudoexfoliation syndrome is a systemic disorder of the extracellular matrix (ECM) with ocular manifestations in the form of chronic open angle glaucoma. Elevated levels of TGFβ3 in the aqueous humor of individuals with pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (PEX) have been reported. The influence of TGFβ3 on the biochemical composition and biomechanics of ECM of human trabecular meshwork (HTM) cells was investigated. HTM cells from eye bank donor eyes were isolated, plated on aminosilane functionalized glass substrates and cultured in the presence or absence of 1 ng/mL TGFβ3 for 4 weeks. After incubation, samples were decellularized and decellularization was verified by immunostaining. The mechanics of the remaining ECM that was deposited by the treated or the control cells were measured by atomic force microscopy (AFM). Imaged by AFM, the surface features of the ECM from both sets of samples had a similar roughness/topography (as determined by RMS values) suggesting surface features of the ECM were similar in both cases; however, the ECM from the HTM cells treated with TGFβ3 was between 3- and 5-fold stiffer than that produced by the control HTM cells. Proteins present in the ECM were solubilized and analyzed using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectroscopy (LC-MS/MS). Data indicate that multiple proteins previously reported to be altered in glaucoma were changed in the ECM as a result of the presence of TGFβ3, including inhibitors of the BMP and Wnt signaling pathways. Gremlin1and 4, SERPINE1 and 2, periostin, secreted frizzled related protein (SFRP) 1 and 4, and ANGPTL4 were among those proteins that were overexpressed in the ECM after TGFβ3 treatment
