Proceeding of: EvoWorkshops 2006: EvoBIO, EvoCOMNET, EvoHOT, EvoIASP, EvoINTERACTION, EvoMUSART, and EvoSTOC, Budapest, Hungary, April 10-12, 2006This paper presents an objective experimental comparative study between four algorithms: the Genetic Algorithm, the Fitness Prediction Genetic Algorithm, the Population Based Incremental Learning algorithm and the purposed method based on the Chromosome Appearance Probability Matrix. The comparative is done with a non subjective evaluation function. The main objective is to validate the efficiency of several methods in Interactive Evolutionary Computation environments. The most important constraint of working within those environments is the user interaction, which affects the results adding time restrictions for the experimentation stage and subjectivity to the validation. The experiments done in this paper replace user interaction with several approaches avoiding user limitations. So far, the results show the efficiency of the purposed algorithm in terms of quality of solutions and convergence speed, two known keys to decrease the user fatigue. This article has been financed by the Spanish founded research MCyT project OPLINK, Ref: TIN2006-08818-C04-02

This work aims to know the perception that the students of the Degree in Primary Education of a state university had on the virtual implementation of a series of practical activities during the confinement caused by the COVID-19, regarding the acquisition of the competences in their mathematical-statistical training. Using a descriptive quantitative design with the application of a Likert scale survey, the results reflect that the participating students considered that this type of activities help to achieve the objectives of the didactic content and associated competences, and that they would use these activities in the future as teaching professionals

An effective polymeric nanocarrier that allows for active targeting and selective drug delivery in cell coculture systems

In this manuscript, we report the development of a versatile, robust, and stable targeting nanocarrier for active delivery. This nanocarrier is based on bifunctionalized polymeric nanoparticles conjugated to a monoclonal antibody that allows for active targeting of either (i) a fluorophore for tracking or (ii) a drug for monitoring specific cell responses. This nanodevice can efficiently discriminate between cells in coculture based on the expression levels of cell surface receptors. As a proof of concept, we have demonstrated efficient delivery using a broadly established cell surface receptor as the target, the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), which is overexpressed in several types of cancers. Additionally, a second validation of this nanodevice was successfully carried out using another cell surface receptor as the target, the cluster of differentiation 147 (CD147). Our results suggest that this versatile nanocarrier can be expanded to other cell receptors and bioactive cargoes, offering remarkable discrimination efficiency between cells with different expression levels of a specific marker. This work supports the ability of nanoplatforms to boost and improve the progress towards personalized medicine.Health Institute Carlos III (ISCIII) DTS18/00121Junta de Andalucia-FEDER, Ministry of Economy, Knowledge, Companies and University (University of Granada) B-FQM-475-UGR18 PT18-TP-1490 AT17_6096- OTRISpanish State Research Agency RED2018-102469-TFundación Benéfica Anticáncer San Francisco Javier y Santa CándidaSpanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness PTQ-16- 08597Spanish Government FPU 16/0206

Optimal start in dialysis shows increased survival in patients with chronic kidney disease

Objective To compare the survival among patients with chronic kidney disease who had optimal starts of renal replacement therapy, dialysis or hemodialysis, with patients who had suboptimal starts. Methods A retrospective cohort consisting of >18 year-old patients who started renal replacement therapy, using peritoneal dialysis or hemodialysis, in any public hospital or associated center of the Andalusian Public Health System, between the 1st of January of 2006 and the 15th of March of 2017. The optimal start was defined when all the following criteria were met: a planned dialysis start, a minimum of six-month follow-up by a nephrologist, and a first dialysis method coinciding with the one registered at 90 days. The information was obtained from the registry of the Information System of the Transplant Autonomic Coordination of Andalusia. Results A total of 10,692 patients were studied. 4,377 (40.9%) of these patients died. A total of 4,937 patients (46.17%) achieved optimal starts of renal replacement therapy and showed higher survival rates (HR 0.669; 95% CI 0.628–0.712) in the multivariate analysis of Cox regression model

Iron ore sintering. Part 3: Automatic and control systems

    Get PDF
The sintering process involves a large number of parameters, more than 500, each of which exerts a greater or lesser influence and needs to be controlled, within the possible limits, in order to optimise productivity, process stability, and standardise the composition and quality of the sinter produced. To comply with environmental legislation, a pollution control system must monitor the particle matter and gases generated and emitted into the atmosphere by the sinter plant. Automation and control systems are vital tools to assist plant operators in the monitoring of each stage of the sinter production process

Follow-up and feedback processes in the EHEA

In the present paper, we describe the work being carried out by a group of professors so as to implement the follow-up and feedback processes of the activities students do throughout the first academic years in their Engineering studies. Not to mention, this project is within the EHEA (European Higher Education Area) framework. Our results show that these processes are key to enhance students learning, they can also have an impact in their academic performance and can be optimized in such a way that professors can assume the time it requires.Peer Reviewe

    Get PDF
Peer Reviewe
