The influence of competences in business higher education: a student’s approach

[EN] Nowadays, competences have an important role in higher education. Their development may have an effect on student’s satisfaction with his/her studies. The aim of this research is to test the relationship between competences developed during the study of a university business degree and the student’s satisfaction with this degree. Moreover, we test other outcomes derived from satisfaction, such as the student’s word of mouth and his/her confirmation of the university degree that he/she chose. We design an online survey for students of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration in a Spanish University. We collect 161 effective questionnaires and analyse them using structural equation modelling, specifically partial least square (PLS). Results demonstrate that competences have a strong effect on student’s satisfaction, leading to positive word of mouth and confirmation of student’s past behavior. This implies that specifying and working properly the competences of a degree becomes a priority objective for university institutions.

Graffiti is a discipline which started around the 70’s in Philadelphia and emerged in New York shortly after. Street art brought more artists to fame in the 21st century, including Banksy, Shepard Fairey with Obey and Boa Mistura. They paint the walls to give them a new appearance. Their objective is to interact with the passer by and to make them think about the message behind the art work.<br /

A cost for high levels of sperm competition in rodents: Increased sperm DNA fragmentation

    Get PDF
Spermcompetition, a prevalent evolutionary process inwhich the spermatozoa of two or more males compete for the fertilization of the same ovum, leads to morphological and physiological adaptations, including increases in energetic metabolism that may serve to propel sperm faster but that may have negative effects onDNA integrity. SpermDNA damage is associated with reduced rates of fertilization, embryo and fetal loss, offspring mortality, and mutations leading to genetic disease. We tested whether high levels of sperm competition affect sperm DNA integrity. We evaluated sperm DNA integrity in 18 species of rodents that differ in their levels of spermcompetition using the spermchromatin structure assay. DNA integrity was assessed upon sperm collection, in response to incubation under capacitating or non-capacitating conditions, and after exposure to physical and chemical stressors. Sperm DNA was very resistant to physical and chemical stressors, whereas incubation in noncapacitating and capacitating conditions resulted in only a small increase in spermDNA damage. Importantly, levels of spermcompetition were positively associated with sperm DNA fragmentation across rodent species. This is the first evidence showing that high levels of sperm competition lead to an important cost in the form of increased sperm DNA damage.Peer Reviewe

Current treatment landscape for oligometastatic non-small cell lung cancer

Non-small cell lung cancer; OligometastaticCáncer de pulmón de células no pequeñas; OligometastásicoCàncer de pulmó de cèl·lules no petites; OligometastàticThe management of patients with advanced non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) has undergone major changes in recent years. On the one hand, improved sensitivity of diagnostic tests, both radiological and endoscopic, has altered the way patients are staged. On the other hand, the arrival of new drugs with antitumoral activity, such as targeted therapies or immunotherapy, has changed the prognosis of patients, improving disease control and prolonging survival. Finally, the development of radiotherapy and surgical and interventional radiology techniques means that radical ablative treatments can be performed on metastases in any location in the body. All of these advances have impacted the treatment of patients with advanced lung cancer, especially in a subgroup of these patients in which all of these treatment modalities converge. This poses a challenge for physicians who must decide upon the best treatment strategy for each patient, without solid evidence for one optimal mode of treatment in this patient population. The aim of this article is to review, from a practical and multidisciplinary perspective, published evidence on the management of oligometastatic NSCLC patients. We evaluate the different alternatives for radical ablative treatments, the role of primary tumor resection or radiation, the impact of systemic treatments, and the therapeutic sequence. In short, the present document aims to provide clinicians with a practical guide for the treatment of oligometastatic patients in routine clinical practice

Validation of the child and youth resilience measure-28 (CYRM-28) among Spanish youth

Objectives: This article presents a validation study of the 28-item Child and Youth Resilience Measure (CYRM-28). The sample contained 365 Spanish youth ages between 15 to 21, from Navarre (Spain), all of them enrolled in Initial Vocational Qualification Programs. Method: The CYRM-28 was administered to students from 27 secondary schools in the province of Navarre. Confirmatory analyses were conducted. Results: The structure of the original scale was confirmed, as well as acceptable psychometric properties. Discussion: Findings add support to the CYRM-28 as a reliable and valid self-report instrument that measures three components of resilience processes in the lives of youth with complex needs. The CYRM-28 shows adequate psychometric properties, the CFA presents indices of goodness and fit (Chi-squared = 60,170, df = 17, p < .001; CFI = .960, TLI = .934, IFI = .961, RFI = .911 and NFI = .946; RMSEA = .084). Conclusion: Advanced statistical modeling yielded evidence that the scale, originally developed for use in several countries, can be used to assess resilience in Spanish youth. This work was supported by Ministry of Education and Science (R&D Project PGC2018-094672-B-I00); University of Almería (UAL18-SEJ-DO31-A-FEDER) and the European Social Fund

Energy-efficient amplifiers based on quasi-floating gate techniques

Energy efficiency is a key requirement in the design of amplifiers for modern wireless applications. The use of quasi-floating gate (QFG) transistors is a very convenient approach to achieve such energy efficiency. We illustrate different QFG circuit design techniques aimed to implement low-voltage energy-efficient class AB amplifiers. A new super class AB QFG amplifier is presented as a design example including some of the techniques described. The amplifier has been fabricated in a 130 nm CMOS test chip prototype. Measurement results confirm that low-voltage ultra low power amplifiers can be designed preserving at the same time excellent small-signal and large-signal performance. This research was funded by AEI/FEDER, grant number PID2019-107258RB-C32
