We provide two new records of Bothropoides diporus for Neuquén province, northern Patagonia, Argentina. Both records are the second and third for this species in this province. One of these records, from the northern slope of Auca Mahuida Mountain, extends approximately 120 km to the north the present known geographic distribution of this species in Neuquén province.Fil: Minoli, Ignacio. Domestic Violence and Labor Market Outcomes: Evidence from a Mixed-Race Developing Country

    Get PDF
This study investigates the heterogeneous effects of domestic violence over labor markets in an ethnically fragmented country such as Bolivia. Among developing countries, Bolivia “excels” in having one of the highest levels of domestic violence in the region. Anecdotal evidence and empirical evidence suggest that response to domestic violence is not homogeneous across different ethnic groups. Using information from the Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) for Bolivia, we examine the heterogeneous impacts of domestic violence over one of the key labor market outcomes such as employment. We employ a probabilistic decision model and treatment regression techniques to examine this effect. We claim that the impact of domestic violence on labor markets is limited among indigenous people, given that violence is, to some extent, socially recognized and accepted. We find that for most of the cases, indigenous women are less responsive to domestic violence than non-indigenous ones, except for groups with a high income level. Our results are robust for alternative methodologies to address possible endogeneity problems.labor markets, domestic violence, Bolivia, indigenous

Liolaemus ditadai is a rare liolaemid lizardoriginally described from Salinas Grandes salt-pans flat,in the border between Cordoba and Catamarca Provincein central Argentina. Only a few specimens of this speciesare known. Here, we present a new record that result ina significant extension of the known distribution of thespecies, which is currently considered to be restricted toa small area in Salinas Grandes. In addition, we commenton previous records of the species in central Argentina.Fil: Avila, Luciano Javier. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones CientĂficas y TĂ©cnicas. Pseudotomodon trigonatus (Leybold, 1873) is a small-sized dipsadid snake (about 450 mm total length) endemic to Argentina (Figure 1). It is the single species of the genus, and its geographic distribution ranges through the western and southern areas of Monte phytogeographic region and neighboring areas (Cei 1986; Scrocchi 1997; Avila 1997; Tiranti and Avila 1997; Avila et al. 1998; Giraudo and Scrocchi 2002). In Chubut province is known only from Puerto Madryn, in northwestern Chubut (Scolaro and Cei 1979) and from an area near Punta Tombo, about 120 km S of the previous record (Cruz et al. 1999). In a recent field guide (Scolaro 2005) the geographic distribution outlined is restrict the species to the northeast corner of Chubut Province.Fil: Avila, Luciano Javier. Marine Anti-inflammatory Agents

    Get PDF
Acute inflammation is a highly regulated process, and its dysregulation can lead to the development of a chronic inflammatory state which is believed to play a main role in the pathogenesis of many diseases, including cancer. In recent years, the need to find new anti-inflammatory molecules has raised the scientific communityÂŽs interest for marine natural products. In this regard, the marine environment represents a source for isolating a wealth of bioactive compounds. In this Special Issue, the reported products have been obtained from microalgae, sea cucumber, octopus, squid, red alga-derived fungus, cnidarians, hard-shelled mussel, and sponges

Measuring user rated language quality: Development and validation of the user interface Language Quality Survey (LQS)

    Get PDF
Written text plays a special role in user interfaces. Key information in interaction elements and content are mostly conveyed through text. The global context, where software has to run in multiple geographical and cultural regions, requires software developers to translate their interfaces into many different languages. This translation process is prone to errors – therefore the question of how language quality can be measured is important. This paper presents the development of a questionnaire to measure user interface language quality (LQS). After a first validation of the instrument with 843 participants, a final set of 10 items remained, which was tested again (). The survey showed a high internal consistency (CronbachŚłs α) of .82, acceptable discriminatory power coefficients (.34–.47), as well as a moderate average homogeneity of .36. The LQS also showed moderate correlation to UMUX, an established usability metric (convergent validity), and it successfully distinguished high and low language quality (discriminative validity). The application to three different products (YouTube, Google Analytics, Google AdWords) revealed similar key statistics, providing evidence that this survey is product-independent. Meanwhile, the survey has been translated and applied to more than 60 languages
